The Problem With Dendro’s Characters | Genshin Impact

It’s been two months since Dendro was brought into the game and at this point we’ve had enough time to experiment and limit test the full range of strength available to us through Dendro’s current units. With the release of Nahida I decided now’s a good time to evaluate Dendro’s reactions and characters to see if it truly balanced the seven elements more evenly.

  1. I feel like dendro chars have the exact opposite problem that geo chars have
geo is kinda useless reaction wise leaving its characters to have to be viable purely based on their own abilities
while dendro is probably one of the most useful reactions now
leaving its characters to not be able to do much more than apply their element without being too overpowerd

  2. I think we're judging it too fast. we've still got the guy with 'ham' in his name to come out, the snake guy that uses Qiqi, etc. More interesting dendro will come.

  3. I agree that a dendro healer would help balance out the dendro roster a lot. My concern though is that they would end up with to many stat requirements to actually be useful (Dori). The obvious solution would be to just make their healing scale with EM instead of the usual HP or ATK. Additionally, some additional characters that buff in new ways would be nice. Example, a character that buffs the party's elemental skill damage could be a nice addition as it is a pretty uncommon buff. Dendro could also use a burning buffer to make the reaction a bit less of a meme (though it is usable with Nahida).

Over all I think they have done a good job with dendro so far.

  4. I think you were a little off about Tighnari. He's not just an enabler like the others because he doesn't have consistent dendro, only quick splurges. Which is not what you want for bloom nor aggravate.
Also, while not the best use of her, we now know Nahida can enable passable melt teams and does enough personal damage for fridge teams. She's the first dendro unit to actually have usability with cryo.
Overall agree with scope of the video though. Hopefully we see dendro units with more nuanced roles soon.

  5. i was sad after i lost the 50/59 on Nahida because I really liked the Traveler's dendro kit and wanted another 5 star version. i lost to tighnari during nahida's banner and i liked the element even more. i would sacrifice my wallet when alhaitham comes for sure

  6. I feel like you are just trying to cope with the fact that Dendro made your previous team that you wasted so much time on redundant. I bet you regret wasting so much time trying to chase that once in a lifetime 40+ CV artifact just to make your team work, while Dendro can perform extremely well with just EM, which is way easier to get than crit stat

  7. Something we should consider with Dendro is what characters we actually have access to. Collei is a free character like Amber. Her value in the meta reflects that.
Her and the traveler were likely both given so that more F2P Dendro teams could be made, especially considering Nilou's restriction. Also an archer is better at solving puzzles.

Tighnari is a standard banner 5 star, and a DPS. Comparing his team's damage to those of Diluc and Keqing (before Dendro especially) and it makes sense where he is power level wise.

Dendro MC has by far the best MC kit we've gotten, because just applying Dendro is quite useful for doing reactions, but there are still ER issues.

Nahida is pretty broken, I'd put her at least at Raiden's level.

According to leaks we'l be getting different Dendro archetypes soon.

  8. Maybe the problem of having only dendro appliers in because they delayed Al Haitham who was meant to be the damage dealer and Baizhu who runs a pharmacy, so he must be a healer. I still have hope for dendro….(rip geo tho)

  9. I totally agree with the lack of identity of the dendro characters (waiting for Alhaitham to fix it, please Hoyo!), but I disagree with your opinion on Collei vs the Traveler. Yes, their kit is similar, but Collei's burst is terribly inconsistent and very short. She throws it anywhere but at the enemies (just like Diona hmmm), it lasts a couple of seconds and then it's gone. For once the Traveler is actually good, their lamp stays on the field for a very long time, it reacts well with other elements and the damage is amazing. While the Traveler feels like a good off-field sub-dps, Collei is… good for puzzles? Can we call it Amber syndrome or something?

  10. I think Colei is slightly better than Dendro Traveler, I completely agree with Tighnari however.
I also agree in general that all 4 characters have the same goal, dealing damage through reaction, still I think even with only these 4 we already have a decent variety in team options. Also Nahida gives an insane buff on top of applying a lot of Dendro (most broken char since Kazuha), she is also more of an off-field DPS than on-field.

  11. I have to say I disagree with this video on a few points.
Quicken is not a transformative reaction. Quicken does no damage. Quicken does not do any damage. A transformative reaction is a reaction that scales off EM and character level only. It ignores enemy stats to an extent. For Aggravate and Spread, they have an initial flat value, which can then be augmented by Attack, Crit Stats, and Damage Percent (Goblets). They are a middle ground.
In addition, each character of the Dendro Roster may all apply Dendro and Deal Dendro Damage, but they all have individual traits. Collei being a bow gives her access to good support bow options, her not doing high personal damage is fitting, since she's a weak character. Dendro Main Character applies Dendro, and their burst interacts with elements in special ways, which helps capture the wildness of Nature. Nahida's entire kit is calculated. She takes a picture of enemies, linking them, and making them susceptible to chain damage from reactions. Her Ult is a Buffer. It buffs her elemental skill, which in sequence, buffs her dendro application, which buffs other characters by letting them apply Dendro more often. She's also not an on field dps only, like you stated in the video, she is a flexible option.
Tighnari is a fantastic spread dps. He plays similarly to Ganyu in a few aspects. His level 2 charge shot, and his skill being a taunt. Except he doesn't require much field time.

Dendro as an element single handedly fixed Electro in the meta, giving it the type of 'amplifying reaction' (not really but close) it needed.

  12. i actually regretted pulling for zhong dong because i couldn't use him that much:((
i'm not a meta player, but i like to use reactions (gives me satisfaction HWJBASNMDA) and… ya

    geo shud get more reactions

  13. I knew there’s something off with Dendro, albeit having different reaction variations I noticed it that most viable dendro teams play the same – whoever you put on your dendro slot, it doesn’t matter much tbh. That said, I sure do hope that Alhaitham brings something new to the table, or else Dendro is gonna start to feel boring too soon.

  14. Dendro feels like something you don't need (maybe lot dps you already have through playing game for 2 years) but turn out appreciate it when you have them on party, I've been ignorant when I got tighnari, use him just for exploration. But I was wrong, all this dude kit is based on Speed, his quick swap play style just satisfying.

  15. While I don't disagree with what you're saying about the 4 dendro characters I really think you should've waited a bit longer before making this video at least until nahida's release as your information on her isn't totally correct, nahida is not strictly an on field attacker as there are many teams where she is just a sub dps like xingqiu, nahida is also not strictly better than dmc in some teams as the amount of dendro she applies per application can screw over your attempts to swirl electro in teams like keqing aggravate, nahida can also cause you to lose the right auras in certain hyperbloom teams screwing your rotations

  16. I'm hopeful that most if not all the problems you mentioned (monotony, no damage outside reactions etc) will be addressed with future Dendro characters, particularly Alhaitham.

  17. Nilou: bloom bombs
    Her team: x x

I didn't pull for nilou actually but it is pretty funny to see people die from their own Dmg.
I agree that many dendritic units feel very similar! I can easily swap out one for the other, but there is still a preference for me due to how different character models have differing speed and movements which slightly affect gameplay. But this is like the baseline difference. So. But it's also convenient because Tignari can easily fill in for dendro traveller/Nahida when I need scarabs but also don't want to waste time fighting stuff without swapping out Kazuha.
Dendro on it's own is such a strong element with such specific uses it almost feels like these characters are less characters + an element and more like they are the vessels for Dendro.
Let's hope Alhaitham will swap things around because man I am definitely pulling for constellations for that guy. Look at his ARMS

  18. Well Dendro is still newish and they're still mostly used for supporting transformative reactions not as the active on-field dps. It's the same scenario as anemo where mostly used for supporting swirl reactions like venti, sucrose, kazuha, jean and sayu. But with the introduction of heizhou and probably scaramouche later, anemo gained a second benefit as an on-field dps not centered around providing supports only. I am heizhou main and i can tank a lot of damage from it. The same goes with dendro, with the future additions of dendro characters like al-haitham later, dendro won't be seen as the elements for supports only but also dps.

  19. "Without vape Hu Tao and Xiangling would be useless"

Me, determined to make Hu Tao melt work with Layla coming up:
    I have no such weakness.

But for real, I love Dendro and especially Nahida. I really do not like hydro characters so finally I can use electro characters effectively. My current team consists of Nahida, Beidou, Fisch and Barbara (I don't have Shinobu on my main ok?). So currently I am building Dori so I can slot her as an electro healer and slot in someone else for Beidou. Maybe Sucrose or DMC. Or heck, maybe a certain Dendro loli will actually be a healer.

  20. Eh. I usually like the videos but this one feels like a "must make for scheduled content".

For one the Dendro characters are actually quite distinct with Dendro traveller providing accessible AOE Dendro application at no downtime at the cost of tight energy requirements. Meanwhile Collei provided Dendro in a smaller area in quick bursts without the energy demand (sidewinder). Tighnari on the other hand was our actual taste of a Dendro Quickswap DPS. His playstyle lent more synergy to quicken teams more than any other. Obviously the fact that they all fill "Application" roles is because we already had 2 years worth of choices for the other teammates (as you said). A Dendro character focused on healing would likely be ignored – because Genshin players hate healing. Dendro focus on CC is interesting but then this would lead to cryo losing value since why need cryo + hydro when a single Dendro unit can provide all the CC needed while buffing electro damage. As for support, well Dendro traveller, Collei and Tighnari all offer semblance of EM support on their kits. Not to mention the whole gist of Dendro itself is to "Support" by amplifying or forming new reactions with electro, Hydro and Pyro. So downplaying this support capability all for the sake of saying "ThEY DoNT reALly FocuS on SuPPort" is kinda.. disingenuous.

Also I hope we stop perpetuating the "Kuki is not the best electro slot in before Dendro" cause honestly Kuki was the BEST at consolidating electro application, Electrocute damage (EM stacking), and Healing. It just wasn't obvious since again genshin speedrunners give healers a bad rep.

So yeah had to comment since I listened to the video while working and I had to twitch everytime I heard BS sounding stuff.
