Fontaine can be described – apart from the underwater mechanics that is – as "more of the same." And that's not necessarily a bad or a good thing. Me personally, I hoped for more endgame content, and some long-term grinds such as items, artifacts or pets or something of that nature that drop from enemies. But that's just my opinion, and mine only.
On a positive note, the update also looks promising in it's questline, it's exploration, music and it's story. And that's always been awesome and strong for Genshin, even if it's limited.
I too genuinely believe that 4.0 would have spelt the end for Genshin if the game wasn’t already too big to fail. Having half the content move at such a slow crawling pace underwater and initiating the end of legitimate combat as we know it are huge slaps in the faces of dedicated players who’ve bought characters with special movement options and players who’ve put time and effort raising their characters and l3veling up artifacts and weapons because players will be unable to utilize any of these things. I personally find it extremely sad, bc I honestly enjoyed the intricacies of team-building and combat encounters in Genshin. I believe that Genshin will be dead for a year when players have little to no desire to do the underwater missions because of how long they will take to finish and how boring the activity will become. It’s truly a pity; I seriously hope Genshin succeeds in all its endeavors bc, so far, I have absolutely enjoyed the game!

I'm gonna pull for the Twins when they comeout. They are the reason I started playing Genshin in the beginning when they were in the trailer.
Can't believe I am gonna say this but, finally I can agree with Tectone for once. Genshin is NOT about combat and end game and shiz like that. It is a STORY based OPEN WORLD MMO. And 1st and foremost a GACHA that is always gonna prioritize Waifu/Husbando over META. THANK GOD.
So pull for whoever you want or whoever you like because META is no longer viable in this game and End Game is probably never going to be a thing. AND I AM FINE WITH THAT. I like Genshin as it is now. And people who don't like it as it is can just go play ZZZ or HSR or something. There is always something you may enjoy more.

I’ve always been a casual Genshin player since launch. Genshin came out when I was just starting my sophomore year of high school and Fontaine is coming out when I’m about to be a freshman in college and I work part-time. I’m not a huge combat oriented person when it comes to gaming but there exceptions with certain game like HI3 and Star Rail. It does honestly get annoying hearing hardcore players bitch and Moan about Genshin but refuse to realize the game is directed a lot towards people who don’t have time to play hardcore and actually touch grass and breath real fresh air.

Regarding story ranking for me
Genshin – Good Story but Delivery is hard to keep up with, which makes me close the games or even sleep on the game after 5 – 10 min.
HSR – Very Good Story and Humorous. The Story still hasn’t really gave me any special feelings yet tbh but its Very Good.
Hi3 – Well thought out story. Ik Teccy wont have an opinion since he never played it for actual Story. Might be biased sinced I’ve played for 4 Years but it really is one of the best Stories I’ve experienced in Gaming.

I mostly want Lyney because I love his aesthetic. Magic and black cat and his moves look fun. If you ignore Abyss then just play who looks fun. Wanna know why Childe is in Fontaine.

if you're right and genshin can't be played hardcore, then how do you explain the ever-increasing difficulty in spiral abyss(obviously you can't complete 36 stars with the level of investment compared between the countries, like 2.0 to 3.0), and there are high level bossfight events with ridiculously difficult conditions you choose before the fight. if you aim for the highest score, you will know there's barrier between the low-invested account and the high-invested account, there's no deny about it.
despite the way you describe it all cheers and flowers, the experience in waterland fontaine will be easily forgot when the enthusiasm quickly deflates after a few hours into the underwater zone. nobody will invest their time everyday in a swimming simulator. yes it might be a good sight at the start, but you will get used to it eventually. and everything will be the same afterwards.
the 4.0 Characters are just very boring.

Personal opinion but lore and story wise, Genshin is/was very good! it started dropping down however after the "Ei street shopping" side story, and the main story were downscaling ever since then. Sumeru was kinda intriguing at the start as everything was feeling fresh but each area part in Sumeru were too big and the dialogues were a LIVING HELL to go through. I used to like the character designs in general but god damn i haven't seen any playable characters that interests me for a long time now; yelan was probably the latest one i last found interesting/liked.
If they just re-focus on their storyline and lore then i honestly don't mind the casual route the game is going for, as i originally really liked both.
FOntaine feels like a big big filler region. Other than the underwater exploration, it's just a bigger Bottle land or GAA. I don't like france I have no interest in france theme. We will se how engaging the whole thing will. Because to be honest I didn't care about middle eastern things, but after Sumeru I can say that Sumeru is my favourite region yet.
Also the characters are meh. The trio siblings. I hate them. I hate this shota femboy fetish that Mihoyo has in this game. Other than Nuvilet all of them are little femboys. F*cking Lynette has pantyhose holders or however those called and he is a dude.
I am curious about Focalore because she is an archon. We may be getting an Arlechio, she will be cool if she won't get a Signora treatment. The fence chick looks cool and mommy. The blonde girl is straight up Durandal from HI3rd.
I skip 4.0 100% I only want Lynn from the patch and we will get her free so no reason to pull any.
Regarding the "hardcore" thing that the devs said, while I think the word choice is weird, I also think that what "hardcore" means to us is different from what the devs think. I think that, for them, hardcore means completing every quest (inc. hangouts), completing exploration, getting close to complete or complete achievements, collecting as many characters as they could, etc. That's the kind of "gameplay" that's hardcore for Genshin since it's an easy (combat-wise) open world game.
I don't agree with some of what Tectone said—and agree with some of his points too, like Hoyoverse making four different games focused on different things—but I appreciate the honest thoughts. 👍 I also don't like the femboy aesthetic (it's not my preference), but overall, I'm very hyped for 4.0.
