Wuthering Waves is Just a Worse Genshin Impact Clone

“Wuthering Waves is Just a Genshin Impact Clone” is what the legendary Tenha said in one of his most recent videos criticizing WuWa. There has been a lot of talk about what he said in the last few days and in this video, Iyo finally gets to express everything he agrees and disagrees with regarding that.

How does Wuthering Waves compare to Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, or any other established gacha game that’s currently dominating the market? Find out more in this video.

  1. I think the fact that genshin and WuWa share similarities just stems from the fact that they're the same type of game…

But WuWa is already giving a lot of quality of life that genshin doesn't have with the echos. Also Genshin Devs just dont listen to the community they have while Kuro Game is very close to its community.

Plus even genshin was called (and sometimes still is) a copycat of Zelda Botw.

  2. Not sure if just me but I can barely hear the video you're reacting to. You're overly loud at the volume level where I can hear the video you're reacting too. I've seen it before so I can figure out the gist of the points through rough memory, but the watch would be better if Tenha's video was slightly louder. Can't wait for more of your content on WuWa.

  3. As a PGR player, it is true that there is a more challenging difficulty curve in adapting to the controls, but that doesn't mean we have to say that the system sucks. We just have to learn to play. It seems that nowadays nobody wants to dedicate an hour or two of their life to learn mechanics.

  4. As someone who is knee deep in music not only as a hobby, but as a career, I gotta disagree with both of y'all takes on music. First of all, Genshin's music is orchestra based everywhere outside of the morning times in the main cities of regions making you notice the music EVERYWHERE you go which isn't subtle in the slightest. There is a tonal shift in the music when a cutscene happens which makes the music ramp up, but to say it's subtle throughout is wild. Second, WW is not built upon music like Genshin is (meaning there isn't a heavy emphasis in the music department of the game). I would say WW music is comparable to a MOBA style of music, like it's there and you can hear it but it's not something I would stand still in the open to listen to unlike Genshin. Last but not least, music is purely subjective lmao so it's 100% fine to disagree with things like this and what you would classify as a 'banger'.

  5. While Tenha's opinions are noted, WW will always face the Genshin comparisons. I mean its pretty obvious WW can stand on its own, but these Genshin players will always say its a "Genshin clone". WW will have its own niche of players, but saying even the music isnt comparable to Genshin. Imo music slaps so hard, sure Genshin has its orchestra music, but the dubstep in WW is so much more hype imo

  6. I’m sure I’m going to get called a mint picker or a hoyo díck rider but I honestly feel like Kuro games character designs are their weakest point. There’s a reason why shitty gacha games like FGO are still among the top and that’s due to both their story and characters design being good, Kuro games are just too similar to the many alternatives out there.

The fact that I saw YangYang and immediately thought of Yelan is a bad sign. I understand you can only reinvent the wheel so many times with how creative you could be but the poster girl of all characters who’s representing your game shouldn’t be incredibly similar to a popular character from your competition. There’s also as you said, the female faces are ehh but hopefully the further the game progresses

  7. The problem was not that he made some criticisms, in fact it’s always welcomed! But the idea that everything he went into was with the view compared to genshin, every criticism was based on if its worse than genshin or genshin has it so its a copy. It just feels like he doesn’t identify the game as its own game. I get that its the same genre but god damn let it exist as its own product :((( Because of that his criticisms feel like they’re based on trying to shut down the game even if they are valid since he rarely criticizes genshin back. I fr wish we could just say cool its inspired and move on for once

  8. Don't fix what ain't broke. Genshin has done a lot of things right/perfect, it's why it remains so popular.

WuWa builds off that and makes improvements where Genshin is lacking. This is how anything and everything is supposed to be made, "off the shoulders of Giants"
The same people arguing WW is a Genshin knockoff are the same kinds of fanboys who were screaming Android phones are just knock-off iPhones.

    Same energy.

    Same stupid argument.

  9. I’ve been hearing “WW is like Genshin but better” for months, but it’s not surprising that once Tenha says “WW is like Genshin but worse” he gets dogpiled lol

People so desperately want this game to be a “genshin killer” that they’ll blow up at mild criticism

  10. I think the reason tenha’s video got downvoted so hard(me being one of them) was not that his takes were necessarily bad but that some of the issues he brought up are issues that Genshin itself also has, such as character face models looking kind of the same. The review just came off bias because based on Tenha’s content from my knowledge, the energy put into nitpicking WuWa has never been put into critiquing Genshin. To make things worse the only thing positive said about Wuwa was the 2d mini game? Almost everything except the co-op and qol was praised about Genshin in his video .

  11. 5 words: Genshin Impact Brain Rot.
His takes are mostly okay, it's just that he can't hide his inherent bias towards Genshin Impact because everything he based on his takes are because of his time spent with Genshin. It's a dumb take, he should've done it way better as a veteran content creator, it felt haphazardly rushed.

  12. the gameplay which is the core and the most important part of any game is very different in wuwa and nothing like genshin.
as far as what the world looks like, it's called genre, any company can go for gacha, open world, anime style etc.
Let's stop with this copy bullshit.
Look at boy Tenha early in this video enjoying the wuwa mini game and ask "genshin copy this please". People need to take a full day to look at themselves in the mirror and still fail to realise they're dumb.

  13. 4:10 psp monhun clawing mentioned. Chills
10:04 there's also the basic attack and dodge buttons on phone. It'll really be tough.
13:00 cmon bro, although it wasn't a hot take, Tenha literally said to that sideways platformer thing "genshin minigame" and comboed it with "genshin, copy this!" Which is it now? That gets on many people's nerves, including my tolerant ass.
17:23 "literally female Venti." I'll try to keep track of what people (including me lol) can be annoyed about. Some of these could be brushed aside for sure, but I wanna point these out nontheless.
18:11 lmao. That take made by a genshin merchant hits different. On a side note, bro played 4hrs at best when he made these takes.
22:54 YEP. The fellow CCs mentioned in the gachacast (Feb 23/24 2024) how it would be better to have the story be told WHILE you play and move around instead of stunlocking you into a cutscene. This spoonfed textfeast needs to stop.

Enjoyable vid, keep it up. Hopefully I'll catch some chill streams at twitchdottvslash iyokuu.
