  1. I think it had to do with the fact that there's a lot of kids on this game. They are very vocal on platforms like twitter and they don't really know how to think properly yet. For example i've been called homophobic cause i said to a girl that i didn't think two female character that she was shipping were cannonically a couple ( cause she was saying they were ) and she and many other called me homophobic even tho i specified " if you give me any proof it's CANON i'll definitely say OK it's canon, but you can't prove it cause it's in yout head. "
And it's fine. You can ship whoever you want and be happy but don't force others to think the same as you especially when no offical source say what you think is true.

I personally also saw a lot fanarts of genshin Characters in black skintone etc, and it's totally fine. And most of the comments on twitter say it's perfect and they wish the character were black and not that white etc. People started hating characters cause they were too white, and they say you're racist if you draw a cannonically WHITE character with WHITE skin, cause they'd prefer this character to be black. But the other way around ( drawing WHITE wharacter with DARK skin is ok cause it's better for some reason ). I'm totally fine with drawing all the skintones you want but don't destroy people for just enjoying drawing white characters, and same the other way.

Same with some other controversy like the "endgame content". Mihoyo made an interview saying there will not be any more combat based gamemode and a lot of people " like 40% of the genshin community where sad and talked about it. Sure some of them are aggressive too. But the most part was being just sad and talked about it ( majority of hardcore players like myselfs who enjoy the fighting mecanics of the game ). Then, the majority, a part of the 60% of plays who are "casuals" and don't want endgame content started saying it was better like that and we were pathetics etc wanting endgame content.
It's crazy to me. Genshin Impact is made of many different type of players. The lore type, the teapot players, the combat players, exploration etc. But in any case i'd say " they don't give you lore anymore ? It's better like that cause i don't like it so i'm glad you are sad about it ".
People don't understant there's a lot of different type of players and they think only about themselves.

You can be called by names with "phobic" " and "phobe" so easily, it's astounishing. That's why i don't really think i'm part of the community. People tend to be aggressive for anything, and logic doesn't work on them.

  2. I don't play Genshin but I play Monster Hunter and honestly that game ran into the same issue, specifically when World came out and Monster Hunter became more then a "niche" series. It became quite mainstream and with that popularity came a hoard of people who were new or had that "toxic seed" within them. Since before World, Monster Hunter did obviously have it's bad apples but it usually wasn't a large enough group for it to be a major issue. But with World and Rise that batch of bad apples has grown bigger and while still sometimes hard to encounter thankfully, the larger numbers means you might be more likely to encounter these folks if your playing with Randoms.

Thankfully, the general population of the Monster Hunter community is actually very accepting and willing to help. Especially toward newer players who just entered the series.

  3. Never have I seen a community as toxic as this one, and it's partly the reason why I stopped playing Genshin Impact. Allow me to share a couple of examples I have seen for myself.
Example 1: This community will protect the company for ANYTHING, even though the company is barely doing anything to make their game fun or enjoyable. It's funny since the first anniversary rewards were terrible and the entire Genshin community had united just to make the rewards better, and yet for the second anniversary which are just as bad no one bats an eye. Of course there are still people willing to criticize the game, but there are people who backlash those just wanting the game to get better. Like seriously, do they want another Fallout 76 incident? (if you know, you know)

Example 2: When an entire community manages to bully a voice actor out of doing voice acting for a certain media you know that community is incredibly toxic. To clarify, people had bullied Lilypichu, the voice actor of Sayu, out of voice acting for video games all because the character wasn't good in combat. It's honestly sickening and I wish the best for her.

I would include one more example but the one I had was too long, plus can boil down to popular twitch genshin streamer and his community bullies meta YouTubers out of genshin because he didn't agree with their facts and didn't want to be wrong.

Point is, not the entirety of the genshin community is bad but jesus with how much of the minority is publicized you would think otherwise. God why is this community so toxic

  4. Idk I’m weird for finding a fandom slowly twist into toxicity an incredibly fascinating process , like what is it about internet culture that creates a spawning ground for this kind of stuff.

  5. The fandom is really toxic. I genuinely feel bad for this person who got called racist just for mispronouncing Tighnari's name. That's the reason why I lost interest in playing genshin anymore

  6. 16:00 Though representation is important, what bothers me the most as that these people seem to care WAY more about “representation” in fiction than helping real Black people & minorities IRL . I like Genshin too, but putting a truly Black character in the game only benefits the company, as millions GAMBLE to get them. This Black character isn’t putting food on the tables of people who need I, yet some people online seem to act like it would, 😅🙄

  7. I would like to say something about the part that the developers are in fault because they don't make allot of black characters, they have a roadmap, they planned the story, the location, the city's, and the people.
The skin tone of characters and people were all planned out beforehand, the nation of natlan (don't know if I spelt it right I'll fix soon)the pyro nation is a nation that will primarily have black characters and people. hoyoverse have said that they are planning on making a whole nation with black characters and people that nation would probably be natlan.
the developers aren't making things up as they go, just wait and be patient we'll get the nation soon enough

  8. at 05:13 about that kaeya and diluc ship, i think the shippers are pretty normal and chill but the non kaeluc / dikae (sorry if the ship name is wrong) are the one who always noisy and being toxic to them. Kaya should have give the ship example to “raiden shogun x Yae miko” shippers as the most toxic one. Those shippers are attacking any other shippers that didn’t ship them especially Ayato x Yae 😅😅 .

It’s okay to ship characters as long as no harm for the others. Yes i also enjoy shipping character. Yaoi, Yuri, or Hetero i will take em all and draw em 😂

  9. Like some of the comments featured in the video I agree that In order to get a true positive experience in genshin fandom you need to make friends in a special circle filled with ppl who share the same interests and have the maturity to discuss various topics. Bc the genshin fandom has this mentality of “you’re either with us or against us” the ppl pick an opinion they deem correct and rally behind it use and fight others

Most of this won’t really happen to you if you just keep to yourself.. the way I talk abt this makes it sounds like I’m not talking abt a fandom anymore 😂

  10. "The playerbase is toxic" this line can only be used by someone who doesn't even touched the game, and sees the community through the eyes of twitter. Anyone who has played the game long enough respects your opinion on whichever character you like or dislike. Also, 95% of the players are very wholesome and would even help you without even asking. Everyone understands that this is an RNG game, and you are not always lucky (pretty much always unlucky tbh).
The thing about bullying voice actors is sad, but let me give you guys an example… Suppose you are watching a movie/series… and the villain did an amazing job playing as a villain… if you can't differentiate between reality and tv shows that easily; There is a high chance you will end up hating the actor who played the villain, coz in your mind… you are imagining him/her as a horrible person. I think you get the point of why people bully VAs now… It's Dumb but… what can we do. (For those who play the game… Paimon's VA is meant to be kinda annoying, and she NEEDS to talk to other all the time coz the traveller CAME FROM ANOTHER WORLD and cannot fluently speak the language of teyvat that easily, she was the one who taught the traveller how to speak).

That said, I would say… some people are just bad… and I mean REALLY BAD, anyone who can't completely understand how internet works.. you will really feel cyber bullied. Some would just straight up kick you out of their world just becoz you are weak in a casual and easy game… like BRUH ? And the whole shipping thing… yeah we don't talk about that… if you are into that… well I wish you good luck (Shipping doesn't mean just one character looks good with another, that is fine.. but… uhh… some are just down bad… those who know, they know…)

When I first heard that people called genshin community toxic, I was genuinely confused (I don't have twitter, THANK GOD). Later I found out it was only twitter that had this garbage people lurking in the open. Well… toxic people come together where it is most suitable for them to be toxic. In my 6-7 months of playtime, I have probably encountered just 5-6 toxic people… none of them talked trash, but I was kicked for no reason… assumably, being weak or owning a character they don't own/like

Conclusion: These toxic people are very small in quantity, but they speak very loudly. Just as a few dead fish can rot an entire healthy lake, these people make it look like the entire community is bad

  11. I’m sorry I’m really repetitive in here I haven’t organized my stuff just trying to spew it. I think if it was more civil and stuff the developers would have added more variety to their characters. BUT It’s chaos which catches attention of outsiders to look into it therefore hearing about their game.

It feels like it my be partially embraced by the company since chaos attracts attention and curiosity which drive people to try the game and contribute to the publicity even if it’s negative it still brings them more downloads then more money.

If you look into some of the companies actions they are apathetic and don’t care. So it’s basically giving the company a gift of free marketing labor. They probably won’t fix that issue either because denying representation or whatever gives them more attention.

They don’t know you. They don’t care about you. They are a corporate company. They realize the more feelings that are hurt the more money and since they don’t care they’ll do it. They likely would have made more variety in characters for this same reason but since it’s working now why stop and risk less public eyes?

Though my edit is about to take a backwards step I honestly adore and love this game. I genuinely recommend it to mostly anybody. Not because of my above statements but because the lore, characters, graphics, exploration, and even the nps are some of the best. You can go to a bystander who’s usually ignored and actually find a story a personality stories that intertwine their fates and even extra information on playable characters! I honestly love the npcs!

  12. My way of interacting with the fandom: stick to the fanfics, admire the fanart, stay the heck out of the comments, and for any interactions, go to the Chinese fandom. Where people actually think before they post and toxic posts literally get taken down. And peopl are actually aware that this is fictional and chill.

  13. I'll be honest, I want to make a fanart of one of my favorite characters from that game (Cyno), but I am afraid and have hesitated to do so since there are people who will try to cancel me for not using the "correct" skin tone or straight up ask me when will I make the next Genshin fanart. I think I will stick to original characters for now.

  14. i think the game contributes to a whole lot of these issues honestly, like people complain there arent a lot of black characters in the game and while arguable the game is based off of regions and the areas where darker characters are from (NATLAN) they havent visited, now im don't think they should go ahead and make a random Japanese area a mix of skin tones but the developers have failed to put that region in the game on time as they've seen people complain about it a lot, there are also people that are here for the story exclusively and would get pissed at anyone complaining about gameplay features and still the developers do nothing… so yeah

  15. Personally. I just hate "communities" in general. There always some rotten walnuts to ruin your day.

Enjoy a game, movie, book or any fandom with a more concentrated group. Find people with similiar mind-sets and grow together both in fandom and life.

  16. Sadly this happens in any fandom, it can be the most chill and welcoming community ever, but the toxic side of it will make more noise because that's just how toxic people are, they HAVE to be heard, and this affects the whole community.
People just need to mind their own business.
It's really sad how you cannot even have opinions about characters without getting atacked, or making a piece or art without it recieving hate, I stopped doing fanart of a lot of things I love just because I'm terrified of what crazy people will say, it's really depressing that things are like that now

  17. I’m ar 56 and has never truly been in the fandom part of Genshin. My friends play and we do co op together and roll around with sayu and taunt our friend who still doesn’t have her, why can’t these people just do things like this instead?

  18. Anyone who thinks Genshin has a toxic shipping fandom hasn’t been to a RWBY forum. Now that is a community that is so toxic with its shipping that the writers had to tank a canon ship to establish a community backed one. I give their writers crap but in this I felt bad for them having to alter their story because the VAs were fanning the flames of toxicity like pyromaniacs.

  19. I'll be honest. I always hated genshin and don't even have the interest to try play the game before, mainly because of how toxic the fandom are. My big sis play the game and whenever she share whatever the game's about I always express my uninterested at her and she do understand why I'm not interested so she dont really share much.

For real, the reason i hate the game are because of how the fandom always push their shipping or presentative stuffs and talk trash to other players to the point like whenever there's a post about genshin in twitter or a video on YouTube, I always shut them off. And I don't even follow their acc so it's really infuriating when I see any

I know the game is not to blame for all my hate so early this month, I decided to try and play the game but the main reason I try is actually only because I want to play coop with my big sis and my eldest brother and I'm genuinely enjoy that kind of moment. But even though I start playing the game, I still avoid the fandom in twitter. I know there's a whole lot others that really good and enjoy the game as it is, but I just don't trust to rely on twitter. Thank God I don't have tiktok cuz I always read the tiktok also toxic.

I may be a bit childish to hate the game over that reason when I don't know a thing about the game's actual story or lore but I believe fandom play a big part in community to show other people what good or bad the game/anime is about so that the new people have the interest to know and learn more. But genshin impact fandom? They do it so bad. Most of the people there only show their nonsense opinions over what they should actually show.

Anyone that reading this, thank u and sorry for my immaturity if there's any. As I said, I'm new in this game and still learning. Also, I have a goal to save primogems for one year. I want to try depend on free characters and from those standard banner only. Wish me luck for one year patience!

Because you can like the dynamic or the potential, or you’re like me and ship characters you just like. I ship Childe x Zhongli, at the start it was because they were my favourite characters but as I started seeing more and more fanart/fiction I ended up liking the potential the dynamic had. Now with Kaveh x Alhaitham, I liked the dynamic from the very start. Shipping doesn’t need to “make sense” or have canon interactions with them, you just need to have fun with it. I don’t like the adult x kids ones obviously but I’ve seen people just like it for crack reasons

  21. i am a part of genshin community, but i'm not from an English-speaking country. and i can confirm that only the eng-fandom is always trying to tell who and how to love. as a dottore simp, i'm sick of all those accusation i find on twitter or reddit everytime i go there to find some content. if eng-fandom could just relax and let people do whatever they want as long as it fits the law, it would be such a bliss, really.
srry, but comparing me, a simp for a grown unbelievably hot man, to those who enjoy child p0rn? thanks guys, great fandom experience.

  22. As someone who played genshin for 1 year

i think most of them doesn't even play genshin, they just "fix" the art that artist/mihoyo made and argue that they are whitewashing and there should be more darker skin color ( i do agree but not to the extend that i should "fix" someone art and blackwash them or canceling someone over a piece of drawing with a character that isnt even real )

please do not argue about a pixel character dating another character on twitter , its not even real just keep your own opinion to yourself and do not comment about anyone shipping them

summary : do not give your own opinion to twitter and dont "fix" someone art because theres not alot of character with that skin color, just enjoy the game
    its that simple

(extra : please do not ever compare the anniversary rewards to honkai impact, honkai impact started older than genshin, also honkai 2nd anniversary is not too f2p friendly because of the "first top-up offers, double the crystal" ,"7 day top up rewards" and "returning outfits" events, so keep in mind)

  23. the only thing the i disagree on this probably the last one.
i really didn't like the opinion regarding developer should always to listen to player base kinda stuff because the question will be which one ?
i am not saying i am against adding darkskin characters, in fact i do like and wanted to see more in probably next region like natlan.
but i don't want to dictate the creator on how or what the creator should do on their own creation and i didn't want they adding something out of being forced or by pity cause it usually didn't ended very well. if they do really wanted to added something that representable, i want them to do it because they do wanted to do it so it delivered perfectly and people do love it.
i do believe that the creator should love their own creation first before we as an audience can also love and appreciate the creation.
just like what jacky said "A shot of vodka, lime juice, ginger beer, and most importantly…… a splash of love."

There are moment in honkai impact when they do adding darkskin characters named carol and her mom. majority of player love her and she do is really adorable yet there are always people that will always complaining over small tiny detailed that they didn't like or its not like they wanted.
what i am trying to say was, its not as simple as about either diverse character existed or not. but you cannot really fix these toxicity from the fandom only by listening, cause they will never stop.
once they know they can abused their opinion, they will do it again and again and last thing you know its not about majority of player anymore that creator are listening but only this toxic people.
like you just said, some people do just love the toxicity.
