I’ve Been GRINDING it the past few days, give it a try and see if you like it!
I feel terrible for new Genshin Impact players. Without a change, it will take weeks if not months to even use new characters being added into the game!

I played the game just so I could Yae Miko and Raiden first. But getting to the boss fights of either of them is such a long trek. I was forced between spending resources on people I didn't like to play with like Lisa or just have no electro at all. It took me over a month to unlock Inazuma and that was after playing hours every single day during the holidays. Now that I'm back at university, it took me forever to finish Inazuma. And I skipped a lot of Enkonomiya just to fight the Yae Miko boss.
If I didn't start playing Genshin in the holidays, I would've probably still not been able to upgrade Yae Miko or Raiden by today. And I want Dehya but she might require Sumeru desert items which means I may need to rush through Sumeru content to use her. It's pretty horrible design, it's like the game only cares about their long term players. At least Mtashed knows how to get to the materials efficiently and optimise characters to deal as much damage as possible while at a low level, a new player like myself had no idea what to do.
2:00 I mean i see that as more of an intention to keep playing the game, I don't think its bad to lock characters to gated areas i mean its fine. You have a lot of 4* characters that u get at the start that is more than capable to help you get there, even if i got raiden or ayato early on i would say to myself theres cooler areas waiting for me, cant wait to be able to get to them and eventually use these characters. there's plenty of other games that do this, genshin wasn't released "finished and polished" so thats pretty much expected.
I already tell this them in survey about the time gated character.
Their should make NPC who sell some stuff about advance material for new player.
Unfortunately, these gatcha games aren't designed to be around for decades, like mmorpgs. They generate hype and players for 2-3 years, peak (some time around Sumeru/Fontaine for Genshin), then ride that invested/addicted veteran base for 2-3 more years. By the end of Snezhnaya, the dev team will be down to 3 guys, as Hoyo shifts focus to other games.
It's harsh to say, but they're basically peak-efficiency pump-and-dumps.
Xinyan, Yunjin, Yaoyao next, honestly just play the off meta 4 stars. With constellations for the above you have options. Just play them. Only limit the OP 4 stars like Bennett, Xingqiu, Xiangling, Fischl, Sucrose. The rest should remain playable. Or your account will become very stale.
I've played since 1.0 and I originally quit because I felt this way in Liyue when I got Tartaglia. When I came back in 3.2 it was REALLY tough for me to trudge through everything and I'm still only at the 3.0 archon quest. I decided to prefarm everything now, but new players won't be able to figure that out or have access to it. Not to mention the feeling of dread that comes with gachas and 'being behind', missing the chance for your fave characters, etc
First time playing is when nilou got released and I actually got her. But every since that day, I never used my nilou and just used other characters because she's too hard to ascend for me. I do have raiden now and I'm really happy with her :> but my nilou is really just for display and will be for display for a long time.
Feel free to help us by gifting us Welkins
Not to mention the amount of missed limited events (weapons and items) players will have missed who only start now or much later down the road.
I had no idea it was so hard for you… Should give up and quit, poor thing 😪😣🤷🏻♂️
Slight rebuttal. You CAN use Raiden and Ayato, at least for a time, because the trial gives enough material to level them to 40, which can carry you at least through the first ascension quest. No one needs to be level 90 out of the starting box, in fact they can't until they've done quite a few ascension quests. Which are optional. That said, the problem you are bringing up now is one that has always existed. Adventure rank increases far faster than someone's ability to keep their characters up to it, that was always the case. I had this issue even playing from the first banner. Dvalin and some of the Liyue quests destroyed me for the better part of a year and I'm still too scarred from fighting the hydro mimics at each tier to want to do that fight ever again, even though I have all of the characters that use that material.
Is still admirable to see this guy talking like Hoyo will EVER give 2 sh*ts about improving QoL ingame. I have rarely seen such optimism, no sarcasm.
This is what I tell people whenever I see someone ask if they should play. They gotta accept the fact that they can't use any banner current banner character unless it's a Mondstandt or Liyue character rerun. And if they do wish on a new character, you won't be able to really use them for a while
This is still my problem right now 😂
I can't grind story quests, because there's cool events like Latern Quest.
not "or bald like Tectone" 😭
LONG READ
I'm new. Started 2 weeks ago. I was playing Tower of Fantasy and decided to try this out. I'm finding this very frustrating. I'm AR 23 right now. I can't use half the characters I have to upgrade them and have them be past 20, mostly just one character, don't remember her name, she's sleepy and casts like an auto ice barrage thing. Just to get her psst 20 I have to go to travel all the way across the map to pick some flowers by some water? I find there's way to many characters. It takes me out of the story if I'm having to travel across an area that my character shouldn't know exists yet, especially being a single player game. The story is all over the place because of weird AR requirements, the main story shouldn't have AR requirements IMO. It's funny too when people get mad at me because I say I prefer ToF over genshin even though ToF can be just as frustrating. I find a use for most if not all characters in that game, whereas genshin I've got characters that I have no clue about and am not interested in reading a menu to understand every character. It socks because people seem to bandwagon genshin and those people are people who've been playing the game from the get go. The second I criticize this game, in the slightest I get berated, it's a joke of a community. I know ToF has its issues but it's definitely new player friendly. Imagine playing any single player, story driven, open world, rpg and having to log in everyday to do your dailies so you can finish the story which everyone praises. It's stupid and you couldn't convince me otherwise.
It's a fun game to play, the combat is fun, the world is stunning, the story so far for me is alright, not the greatest( just about to get to liyue).
New player pulls tsaritsa: what have i done?!?
There’s some people quitting (new players) because they want to RUSH everything (they’re not used to these kind of games), Genshin is easy, you can beat everything that the overworld offers without any help. Those kinda people just want to rush everything to be at the same phase as a player that started two years ago, things take time. You’re supposed to play the game as MiHoYo intended to. If I started Genshin now, I’ll be so happy because there are a lot of things to do and I will take my time to enjoy those things, and the game itself. (FREE GAME BTW).
Now with that said, it would be cool to convert some materials from Mondstat to the ones from other regions per week, that’d be a cool addition that would make things easier for them.
As a f2p beginner player (since Jan 2023) I only have the free Mondstadt characters and 5 star skyward pride claymore for noel. As an absolute beginner players, I am sticking to Noel for as long as I can…..I hope…
One thing I find out is that early party of exploration in Mondstadt and Liuye are boring and I hope that world exploration towards later part of the game gets more interesting tho…
I started playing a few months ago, personally, there's a lot of content to the point where I get overwhelmed and don't know what to do, specially when seeing the recommended quests in the traveler's book
To one point my characters were weak af and couldn't do much about getting materials without getting help from co-op
I've had the game since launch but never really invested much time on it, I got to AR 25 and hadn't even beaten Dvalin. I just did enough to get primogems for wishes (without understanding pitty or 50/50). My first 5 star was Nahida and in November I decided to start playing.
I made all the mistakes: leveled a bunch of characters, leveled weapons and artifacts that were bad… I did explore Liyue and a bit of Sumeru because I didn't know better.
Now I'm sitting at AR 34 World Level 3 can't kill Childe because the recommended party level is 57 and most of my main characters are stuck at 40 specially Nahida and Raiden, and world bosses kicks my ass, they are all 50.
So I started watching videos like yours, and learned that I had screwed myself. Now I'm slowly gathering resources (exp books, mining, talent mats, etc) doing my daily commissions, trying to learn boss fights to get character ascension mats and successfully ascended Jean and Bennett, so I'm slowly working to a functional party that can at least help me beat the content.
My 5⭐: Nahida, Raiden, Jean
My 4⭐: Faruzan, Yanfei, Candace, Gorou, Heizou, Sara, Sayu, Chongyun, Bennet, Ningguang, Xiangling and the free ones, except Collie because Abyss is now too hard.
I'm following your advice on the How to Get 10x More Damage video
The thing that bothers me more than the fact this is an issue.. is that they never thought this through to begin with? To me it just screams shitty game design. They never planned this out, didn’t care, or have no idea what they’re doing. It’s not the first time I’ve wondered if they just have no idea how to make a game that’s not a shitty gacha money grab.
One idea I just thought of is they could remove the requirement to be the same world level or higher to join someone else’s world. That way you could at LEAST join a friend’s world and get help getting the materials you need from a friend. It would also encourage more co-op play, which I personally almost never do. It could also potentially give veteran players something to do when they’re bored.. by helping the newbie players get things they need?
Idk, just an idea. I feel like there are several things they could do to remedy this but they’re just.. choosing.. not to? 😐
I believe Hoyoverse realized that blocking Inazuma behind the Archon Quest wasn't a very good idea for new players. I started my new second account not so long ago and was very happy to reach Sumeru without having to do the quests to get there and farm for material levels for Dendro Traveler, Tighnari and Collei. Perhaps when Fontaine appears it will be even faster as it's near Mondstadt 🙂 My advice for new players, don't get Inazuman characters until you finish Liyue and the Interlude quest.
they could probably assuage this problem slightly by having the npc peddlers that don't really do anything… do something, like have them walk from city to city and fight some monsters along the way that the player can see happening in the distance, and when they get to a city they open up shop and sell what they got from what they fought. and I guess other do-gooders and adventurers as well, not just peddlers. eventually you'll get to the point where you recognize them by their looks and you'd zoom right over to them when you see them, because they might have fought more monsters, since the last time you saw them. and maybe you could help them out when they do fight?
it'd be like turning the game into an offline mmo, like final fantasy 12.
Why you make vidoes for a game you dont like anymore?
Inazuma is the only one thats actually gated. At least for Sumeru, you can go there and get the mats without going through any story.
i've been watching your videos ever since i started genshin on 26th of december and i just reached ar45 any tips for me as a new player?
i love your vids
Keep crying
i ran into this problem just recently… i was like ayato looks cool ill do 2 multi pulls for him got him to c1 then realized i need to sprint to inazuma to even get materials to level him up..at this point i was at the beginning of the game,,
