Because I am an advocate of Bad Ideas, I have decided to give into my 3am thoughts and finally make a tierlist of characters based on their “””””narrative probability”””” of dying in Genshin Impact (assuming that they’re all not 0 because they ‘re playable characters *cough*).

  1. I hope we’re not forced to choose between the life of our sibling and the life of Paimon at the end of the game. I can see it happening and it’ll make me sad.

Either way, the characters with the biggest “death flags” for me are Venti, Childe, Paimon, Dainsleif and Zhongli. I would be shocked if they all survived. Yae, on the other hand, feels unlikely to die to me. She’s so confident and in control, it’s difficult to picture a scenario where her death would benefit the story in a meaningful way.

Also, if Mihoyoversity wanted to subvert everyone’s expectations, they could have Aloy appear out of nowhere in the final battle of the game and save the day and then leave without saying a single word. Then Paimon could look at Aether and say “Who the hell was that?”

  2. I feel like Lumine might be put off from battling Aether, she’s put in minimal effort and there would be a very easy yet depressing boss battle that you’d feel bad for attacking, then out of nowhere, a cutscene plays, even more out of nowhere is the sword (or other weapon) now pierced through Lumine’s stomach, she dies in Aether’s arms as the Abyss Queen calls her useless, pathetic and expendable

  3. …Hard call with Bennet. While he's certainly safe FOR NOW, Hoyoverse are well known Mecha anime fans and "The plucky sidekick/lancer/second everyone likes and doesn't fear death gets it in the 4th act" is a HUGE trope in Mecha. it's gonna be awful too.

…I think you skipped explaining Zhong Li after you placed him…

  4. before watching, my list includes:
jean (nosy, abyss order might kill her when she's being nosy sometime. i think if genshin goes the PC deaths route, she's a prime candidate)
noelle (she either takes jean's role as the leader of the favonius knights, or the sacrifice made to save someone else. her tendency to disregard her own safety to help others might be her undoing)
childe (likes to play with fire, will get burned eventually)
    every archon
ningguang (noble sacrifice to save liyue)
albedo (cuz he's albedo and has some shady shit going on at all times)
    sara (also because nosy)
Kazuha (he's going to follow us around now, so he'll be in the first row of the show, exposed to more danger than most)

i think that's it for now. i think kaeya will have a betrayal & redemption arch, not really ending in death

  5. I feel like Itto might be higher on the list. His whole story is about self-sacrifice as well, and especially with his whole "service towards humanity" Oni thing.

…plus it doesn't help that his whole design is based around Japanese demons.

  6. I don't know.. I don't like the idea of children dying. But death is one of the more important aspects of the game and builds more character for others. I feel like if a child character would die it would be a teen not necessarily a child like Diona or Klee. That's just me though.

  7. I think that with Zhongli faking his death, people will get suspicious if too much time passes and a new archon isn't chosen. Because mortals don't typically know that archons carry a Gnosis as a symbol of their status, they probably think celestia sends someone with ties to the corresponding element to take the previous archon's place. So it's realistic for Zhongli to sacrifice himself to save Liyue one last time.

  8. I don’t want albedo to die as that would mean both brothers died because of gods. That would just feel like you gave them a slap on the wrist for letting me get away with removing their problems. Based on the winter event I feel like albedo has a mental illness in thinking he deserves what happened to durin and it seemed very obvious he was trying to let durin live through his body as a form of guilt or shame.

  9. Realistically I don't think many characters are going to die, and I kinda think they're going to do a neutral or happy ending as a "redemption" for the sad history, but if it does end up being a dark story, your reasonings are agreeable.

  10. I think Nigguang is not far from a god's wrath… seeing as she already fought 2 (Osial and Beisht) so while yes she already fought 2 well it's exactly why she's not far from their wrath lol

  11. I actually think Xingqiu is a lot more likely to die, maybe "You are not safe from the wrath of the gods" tier. He's a super influential figure in Liyue and gets featured a lot in events and story like Albedo. Not only would his death uproot his entire family and lineage, it would stir up the idea of order and safety in Liyue, as well as acting as a catalyst for Chongyun's story to progress. He's a very just and passionate character, so I think his death would be super impactful, I'd enjoy seeing it.

  12. Seeing Mihoyo's track record for tragedies and deaths not just in Honkai 3rd, but also Gun Girls Z, I'm expecting things to go really dark.

For example Ayato and Ayaka actually have a lot of flags for me, first of all Ayato is Genshin's Otto, which means that the woman he loves, this time his sister Ayaka will probably die. Ayato will go on the dark path that Ottos always go on and eventually sacrifice himself.

  13. Tough for me to think any of them will die, mechanically they are bound by $$$'s invested by players; they'll trudge along endlessly or be time capsules where we just don't ever really see them again. Potentially could evolve though, ie. Klee growing up, or the Shogun stepping down and becoming more like the Traveler.

  14. "I think that Mihoyo wouldn't kill anyone young" Uhhhhh, unreconciled stars event. Scaramouche was ready to full on murder Lumine, Fischl AND Mona, and Mona fuckin' saved our asses.

  15. They're not gonna kill any of the playable little girls because they already killed all of the playable little boys before they made the game. That's why there aren't any.

  16. I think that after ShenHe's display during the Lantern Rite she's going to be a huge deterrent of whatever cataclysm comes in the future at the cost of her own life. I feel like She's going to pass her adeptal Arts on to ChongYun beforehand but he'll end up taking her place when the "Next Generation" takes over. I also feel like Beidou/NingGuang, and KeQing/GanYu fall into that category of if one dies the other won't simply because of the relationships that we have seen from those pairs.

  17. There’s a big difference between killing children in lore, off camera, usually before the game started, like Ruu and killing a well known and community child in the story. I don’t think mihoyo would do it

  18. While I don't think Kler will die, I think her mom dying is very likely, I know she hasn't really showed up in game just yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if she kicks the bucket later
