The Children of Istaroth | 4.1 Genshin Impact Lore & Speculations

Wind & Time go hand in hand, but what about their rulers? In this video, I analyze Venti and Istaroth’s backstories and theorize what role they’ll play later on in Genshin Impact’s storyline.

  1. Venti and Egeria are cousins then. Two grandchildren of the primordial one winning the archon war makes me think that the archon war winners were already decided and they just used the war to purge the other gods

  2. I started to think the subject of time and Venti were suspicious since I saw his voiceline: Yawn That was a refreshing sleep. Ah, Traveler, we meet again! What? You don't remember me? Ahaha, well, allow me to join you on your quest once again. I must see to it that the bards of the world tell the Traveler's tales!

  3. Actually siblings kinda have similarities with akivili from HSR (aeon of trailblazer) in stories they say akivili suddenly disappeared one day they were trying tree or something like that and our sibling belongs to tevat if nahida says the truth maybe I believe unknown god is a herrscher of finality or something like that there's a lot of things but I'm lazy for now

  4. Venti and Rukha both have similarities. They both holding some kind of ball in their statue. Now from your speculation I am sure they are from istaroth. Because istaroth not only related to time but also to trees like irminsul. My second thought is when you said Paimon and Venti is similar which got me thinking she is the moon that loved the traveler but somehow she forgot and maybe that the three moon sisters are child of istaroth.

  5. Makoto also had a connection to Ishtaroth .. remember she also asked Ishtaroth to help Ei plant the sakura tree seed in the past and bloom it to the future.. i think the whole time domain is created by her.

  6. Well all the "gods" are created by Celestia. Haven't we known that for a long time before the new wings semi-confirmed it? Remember that Andrius is said to have been made a god by some more ancient god still – meaning a Shade, though whether it was Istaroth or the Shade of Creation or one of the others isn't known. Also because Celestia post-2nd throne represents the demiurge who creates the Archons in Gnosticism (Gnosticism and the bible being one of the few times real world lore implies game lore albeit in a limited way). Well Enjou tries to mislead us by implying the "gods" came with the 2nd throne, but all he specifically says is that they showed up after the 2nd throne did. This all suggests that the gods were not all created at the same time, so some are older than others, though none as old as the Nails dropping (implying Kapatcir is too old to be a god). As for the Twins they seem more likely to be on the same par as the Primordial One itself but you'd have to get into the whole, where did the PO come from stuff for that, and I doubt MiHoyo intends to ever finally answer that. But for sure, they are old.

If Shades create (or "promote" might be a better word) gods then Venti has to be promoted by someone to qualify for being an Archon. That sounds like Egeria too, so maybe it was both things at once, like OK this individual is an Archon candidate but they aren't even a god yet so, what we'll do is promote them to a god and make them the Archon at once. While Andrius is promoted from a wolf. Are all gods born as some non-god creature? At any rate Venti is the last known god to be made a god I guess 2600 years ago, and the oldest might be Deshret around 8000 years ago. If gods are popping off all over Teyvat every century or so then we have an active Shade doing it. Enkanomiya says only Istaroth was active for a long time and may have been the only Shade who was active. So was she the Shade to promote every god? Did Istaroth promote Egeria somewhere around 2000 to 4000 years ago? Note that the Shade of Creation birthed Egeria not as a god, and Egeria was later promoted to become a god so as to qualify for Archonhood or some other reason. Istaroth needn't be the Shade of Creation to be the one who promotes gods.

In this sense figuratively all gods might be children of Istaroth as well as her personal servitor race, the 1000 winds. Of course in a literal biological sense so god, Shade or Seelie can have children. Most real world mythos are filled with family relationships of one gods to another but this doesn't exist in Genshin Impact except a couple of examples that could be metaphorical; namely that Ei and Makoto are said to be sisters (this could simply mean they are a pair), and that Osial has a wife (which could mean like eg Zhongli and Guizhong were close).

Yeah the Shades are probably the archangels named on Mona's circle but MiHoyo don't seem to have pursued that idea since the re-lettering of the circle in an early patch from "ABCDEFGHIJKL" to what it is now. Still it feels like Hebrew might be the language representing Celestia since it's a code word for the Hypostases which use the magic spell that praises the Primordial One. Seelies likely were not created by the PO but came on the Ark with the PO (see Drunkard's Tale and the fact that their creation isn't referenced in creation myths).

  7. Since one of Istaroth's names is Kairos I wonder if there's actually two gods of time, since in Greek mythology there's Kairos and Chronos. Both are different kinds of time so either Istaroth is going to be both or there's two of them and they govern two different things.

Maybe Istaroth governs death while the other governs absolute time or something else related to time, I only assume death for Istaroth because both her and Venti seem to do a few things that are closely tied to death. She made the sinshades which are just dead people whose memories remain in the world, Venti took Stanley's soul from his friend so he could be at peace, and he allowed people to hear the voices of their loved ones who died and in Razor's case allowed him to actually have a vision of his parents.

It could also explain why Istaroth has been lost to time, other then all records beings destroyed in Mondstadt by the nobles, maybe something else made sure she was gone. Venti also doesn't seem to like Celestia, which isn't a surprise since what they're doing goes against freedom but maybe one of them also killed or trapped Istaroth.
