A focal point of Genshin Impact’s combat is Elemental Reactions. With so many of them in the game, I thought it would be fun to go through each individual reaction and critique how good (or bad) they are.

1:21 Idk but raiden casually splitting nahida's sanctuary is kinda cool
My strongest team is shatter pls do a vid on shatter
crystalize should provide a dmg bonus for the element or just do some damage when the shield breaks so geo characters actually provide something to a team outside of their own kits 😭
Burning used to be a nasty reaction before Sumeru; the few monsters that could affect you with Dendro (samachurls and slimes) with exposure to Pyro would cause your HP to tick down faster than Corrosion. The playable version of Burning is such a nerf in comparison.
Man, I would slap you for saying Burning sucks. I mean , it is, but I would put it on the same level as Electro Charge, as it can have multiple reaction from it's dendro and pyro side. It also happens that it can also be used for Reverse Melt, and while you did specify most Cryo Character would rather go for Freeze, understandbly so, you CAN use Ganyu to put 3 reverse Melt, until Burning goes out (5 using Dehya skill, if my sources are correct), from which you'd have to cycle again, which IS a bit try hardy, but definitely is possible. Heck, you can even go using Swirl pure Pyro with it, you'd deal fucks knows damage, which Taser happily use. Although, that does need specific type of team, which is understandable. Nahida does hard carry this reaction, as she just so happens to give slightly more dendro unit (1.5 instead of 1) for you to use Aggravate on (for Overload, or Melt)
Basically, Burning may suck, but Nahida exist. Anyway, I hope they rework Crystallize at some point. I'd rather leave the shield to Character, but give infusion to everyone. Would be nice to have elemental reaction on the weapon itself (that's isn't Frozen only), or effect on Geo Construct. Although, I do say that way too often.
There will be one day geo character that scales with EM, the yall will see, shatter will be meta
I really enjoy Cryo, having the ability to freeze opponents is amazing, and can do a lot with it.
I really hope they eventually add more reactions for Geo. I thinking maybe something like shrapnel between anemo and geo, a reaction that would create small projectiles that go flying outwards, doing large splash damage to enemies. And erosion between dendro and geo, a reaction that would reduce the enemy's geo res by a set amount. It sucks that the two strongest reaction elements would be getting more reactions, but crystalize kinda has the other elements taken up already.
Geo and Anemo need offensive/multiplicative reactions to make their team options more vary.
Is that crisis core music on the background?
I still love overload. Sending enemies flying.
Saying Vaporize isnt that meta dominant anymore when International is still the most meta dominant team in game?
I'm still surprised that shatter doesn't multiply physical damage
I love anemo characters. Very fun to play, very easy to build, and you can slot them into almost any team. Just slap VV with EM and you're good to go
I think you highly overrated rated overload and bloom (without Nilou).
Now to be clear, I think the biggest flaw in your vid is that you do not differenciate reactions like bloom, hyperbloom, burgeon or Forward vape and reversed. I think they should be counted as separate reaction.
Now if you think about it, bloom by itself is very bad reaction, cores takes too much time to explode, small AoE, self inflicting damage, enemies moving out of bloom AoE. But this reaction is relevant because of Nilou. Nilou extremly buffs bloom as reaction, as Eula buffs superconduct.
My solution with this would be To make similair units to Nilou to each not used reaction: Burning, overload, crystalise, shatter etc.
I dont understand what they have done with Dehya, they could have easily make her enhance overlead damage, or to make her hybrid scale with DEF and HP. Then she would complete some niche and be the best unit in her respective niche. But no… they made her worthless
Dear Hoyo,
Please do not fix swirl… ever. 🙂
Vaporise: 8/10
Overload: 5/10 (Overvape: 7/10)
Melt: 6/10
Burning: 2/10
Electro-Charged: 9/10
Freeze: 8/10
Bloom: 9/10 (Burgeon/Hyperbloom filed under this)
Superconduct: 5/10
Quicken: 9/10 (Spread/Aggravate filed under this)
Swirl: 10/10 (Rated so high because of its characters and VV)
Crystalize: Unrated, but said to be "the worst reaction in the game" so probably 1/10
I love how hoyo saw that Crystallize was beyond repair, so they just encouraged geo characters to ignore reactions altogether and go mono geo
Good vid, but I think burgeon and hyperbloom should be separated from bloom
Alloy has that melt-able burst you mentioned that we "don't have" I'm not sure why you overlooked that. Also I'm not sure why you consider chongyun to have a single attack burst, it's 4 separate hits isn't it?
Crystallize could easily be saved by hoyo and it's sad that they don't acknowledge it. All I'd do is make the crystals function like yaoyao's radish. They would explode on contact with enemies or allies doing damage and giving shields. If the damage and shields scalled off em you'd actually have a reason to run em on geo characters. And stackability is less relevant if you build em and consistently generate crystals. Ironically this would probably make zhongli way to good and that might be the sole reason they can't buff crystallize.
the problem with melt comp is pyro, not cryo. : D
I know Shatter is something the community at large doesn't really care about, but I still wish you talked about it more rather than disregarding it and following the status quo. Because I think it's very strange that Shatter is the only reaction that Mihoyo seems to have completely forgotten about. It scales off EM but deals PHYS DMG and can only be triggered through Blunt attacks or Geo. Currently the only person who could probably utilize this best is Chongyun if he went full EM.
There are currently no characters that explicitly utilize this reaction or supports it the same way other characters do for other reactions. I feel like Mihoyo totally could someday but who knows. I hope they do.
I feelt like Ganyu Burning Melt with Nahida needed to be mentioned. This made Golden Wolf Lord a joke when it was in Abyss a few weeks back. For those who dont know Nahida's E's proc will reginite itself so long as burning is present, and one of Ganyu's CAs wont remove the pyro aura before the next tick of Nahida's E goes off, meaning she can perpetually Melt so long as Nahida keeps her E going. (though if Ganyu does a quick skill at a bad time or her burst, that can remove the burning as too much cryo app.)
Also Melt is the go to reaction whales doing speed runs in Abyss. As you Ayaka Burst followed by Hu Tao going to town. However thats not exactly standard player stuff so its fair not including it.
Wow, sheesh. Rolled right over Burning. Yeah, it's bad in like 80% of cases but Nahida makes burn surprisingly good. You get to play with Burning more with her. Anemo + Anemo + Pyro + Nahida legit makes Burning a pretty solid reaction, it also has unique properties. Like geeze, you could have at least covered what it can do.
Commenting without completing the vid yet, but Hyperbloom is my fave reaction, and Freeze coming close second (I really bad at dodging).
Swirl is overrated, just imagine any regular character beign Anemo
genshin is probably one of the best, if not the best game for playing with elements, their reactions and how they can be used are really fun and engaging, shame one of the elements (Geo) had to get the short end of the stick for no apparent good reason. Why the Earth element-equivalent of genshin has to have only one reaction and it sucking major ass?
