Insane Genshin Impact "Boycott" Is Backfiring

As Genshin Impact rolls out its new “Natlan” region, fans are attempting to boycott because they believe HoYoverse is white-washing these new characters.

  1. This is what I have been saying. Its a game, its not real, they may have taken bits and pieces but guess what folks its truly just a game. Yet you wasting so much energy on fictional characters like Rev says instead of just dealing with the problems we face in rl. Alot of you really don't have your priorities straight and its sad that something like a games characters upsets you more than what is actually happening around us.

  2. The thing is Genshin's regions are fictional yes, but the names of characters, city, kinda style of clothing and lore is based on real cultures. Mondstat-germany, Liyue-china, Inazuma-Japan, fontaine-france, ect. Natlan is supposedly based on Southern Africa + Mexico, so its normal that soome people think its weird they are all white, at least for sumeru they made desert people darker. But boycotting?? people are overacting WAY TOO MUCH THO.. but I get why ppl are angry

  3. Pale POC here! (I'm South East Asian/Filipino)

I know I'm not from the middle east, or latino in any way, i do feel like saying a few things.

(I'm saying specifically middle Easterns and Latinos yere cause thats what Sumeru and Natlan respectfully each mainly represent)

First of all: I find it extremely rude when people say the characters arent dark enough. At least sometimes. I know it's well meaning but–
    It hurts.
Honestly, Sometimes I wish I was darker cause of the fact I dont fit the preconceived notions that POC people are tanner or black, but enough of me cause I kinda dont matter lol

Anyways, there actually a ton of lighter skinned people in the cultures Genshin is representing. Like, most of the time the people from the cultures I've met are pretty pale or a light tan. The darkest people I've met are usually african.
And well; africa isnt represented much in genshin from what I can see.

Plus i think Sumeru was worse in the representation regard. (Looking at you Deyha. Your pretty but come on…)

Not to mention, Genshin is a Chinese company. I'm not defending them but I feel like they're actually trying NOT to be racist.
Like I know theres some internal conflicts and they probably dont wanna accidentally make another Deyha and Xinyan (honestly they have improved some of the recent Hoyoverse dark-skinned chars in terms of meta and story)
It's hard to represent people you dont know much about either,

Plus, people from the west arent the majority Genshin players.
So it doesnt matter what they say, Hoyoverse doesn't care.

I find the lack of representation… weirdly refreshing-? Like dont get me wrong, i live for being represented in media! But a lot of recent media have it forced in. it sucks… like their whole personality is about their race, gender, religion, etc, etc.
To me, Hoyo's rep doesnt feel as forced.

And it's pretty realistic if you think about it (pale skinned people make up the majority of the world's population) not that realism is always good but- cant blame em

Basically to sum up what i said (in no particular order):

    -"Pale Poc people? Whats that?"

-Hoyoverse has possible reasons why it doesn't have many Black or dark characters

-White and black people dont make up the majority of Genshin's playerbase

    insecurities ✨️

    – Deyha. Just Deyha.

-Sumeru's rep is a bit worse than natlans i think

Bonus stuff i didnt mention but wanna say:

-Assuming Poc people cant be pale in it's own is kinda racist,

-anyone of any race can be any color cause science.

    -My opinion honestly doesnt matter,

-I asked my parents about it (they're darker than me) and they legit didnt give af

I am genuinely a bit upset we didnt get a darker archon tho. Kinda hoping if Capitano reveals his face he's darker. Like Ik my whole argument was against the people who said the chars are too pale but like imagine the strongest fatui being the only one that isnt pale (I'd love it so much. Also it would be hot.)

-Latinos and Middle Easterns opinions matter the most here

-I'd be more angry if they raceswapped a released character tbh.

-I'm sorry for my terrible English. I'm not good at speaking or typing, but anyways, I hope we all can get passed this phase again…

  6. Ok so as a yoruba person I'm just mad , this is one of the few times we get represented and this is how we get represented. I'm not supporting the people doing dumb shit. Simply singing a petion is enough. The boycott most likely won't work but still it's just a sad situation

  7. lol with the neuvillete nerf thing this only becomes more funny. wait util the weast discover that the voice that really matters is the CN community's and that's because they speak with the money! I don't think that the CN community is very concerned about wanting "darker skintones" lmao, darn that evil mihoyo hurting cultures with pixel characters!!!!

guys just go play the game and good luck with the yelan/natlan pulls!

  8. Mfw culture has nothing to do with skin tone. For an example, Mexicans can either be white (Spain blood) or native american, or they can be anything else ontop of that. To be a Mexican, you just have to you know, BE BORN IN MEXICO AND GROW UP THERE. Common sense.

  9. As a peanut butter-colored person of the ethnicity that was expected for Natlan characters, I honest don't care about the fiasco at all.

Bigger problems in the world to be concerned about. The complainers have a right complain, but it will be fruitless just like the past 4,000 boycotts, and they'll just go back to pulling C6R5 again and calling everything "absolutely insane must pull" and such.

  10. Cries about every character being white, while retweeting a picture of a new character with brown skin… doesnt post a picture of Dehya, or the guitar lady from luyue, or jhet or any of the eramite npc's like Babel or the npc enemies.

  11. The Fake Gamer websites have been making stupid articles for years. Everyone who is on the Pro Boycott side always use the exact phrases that were in the Yournolist sites.

  12. I hate to admit it, but they have a point. Even if they're hypocrits.
Like, it's bad when media takes obvious inspiration from white culture and blackwashes it so the same standard has to apply here.
Only argument I can see is a semantic 'when its not historical, how much inspiration can you take before its ok to change'?
Which is a very interpretive and pointless debate.
