Lumine is there to look pretty and Aether personally fits every cutscene, whichever character you played most is the one who will be the main protag. for you.

I play as Aether because I'm nonbinary (assigned female at birth), and I feel more emersed in the game when I'm playing as a guy character, while playing as the girl character in video games gives me gender dysphoria.
I still use lumine today my team is Lumine,Kaeya,Benette,Xiangling and sometimes Barbara.
It is possible that the arrival of the twins were already prophesied by the mages.

I use Lumine because .. idk it was my first choice. And (my opinion) Lumine should get more time on screen. We always see the Genshin Impact Trailer but always only Aether as Traveler. I wish Hoyoverse would also make Trailers for upcoming versions or events with Lumine as Traveler because they are both good Maincharacters in the story. Back to the point… i prefer Lumine because it's a habit of mine to choose my own gender first when i start playing a game.

The difference is because of the lore. Aether is looking for his sister and is meant to adventure to learn about the world.
Lumine has been through the war and is the princess of the Abyss so she is stronger in terms of fighting.
That's what I thought when I first heard about the difference
Aether is simply the one they choose for the trailers. The story never refers to either as the MC in the game but rather the one called “Traveler”.
That said, I think more people would know about those differences if content creators even cared to talk more about them; but since the beginning they were quite ignored characters.
However those who cared already knew about this. So, like the Sumeru Academia says “Nihil Sub Sole Novum” – nothing new under the sun.

Personally, I feel more like the protagonist as he because I am a girl, and she is a girl. Also that color scheme is MC material anyways.
I play Lumine because I think she is kinda cute. And when playing games when I have a choice to pick genders I would always choose the female character because I like cute anime girls.
