I think they should have let us retrieve the trap after each kill, may be a bit maintenance fee is alright. It actually has some potential. You can use it to trap the fleeing boar after provoke them so you have less meat to chase, but only a one-time use is so inconvenient.
I remember that I put down one trap and I was like "Why don't I just give you the meat? That'll save a lot of time." So I did. And at that time I thought "Maybe this game has multiple ways of completing a quest?" And of course that is never the case.
