The bird is a spirit, cyno has one which is his ult(explained in his character story). The spirits are how the eremites get their powers like the samurai uses talismans, the fatui use delusions and the abyss mages uses ley lines branches (their drop).
For what I understand, spirits references to egypt mythology and how the gods can choose mortals to be their avatars, but since the gods are supposed to be dead in genshin they use the term spirits.
