Genshin Impact Characters but they’re Dungeons and Dragons Alignment but Aster has no idea what she’s talking about. ALSO When I say Gods, I just mean them divine people. IDK How to classify them in one word.
ALSO, Yanfei – Chaotic Good is also valid from the other perspective of “She doesn’t follow legal laws”

I love this series, thank you so much Aster !!
I’d argue that Ei is lawful or neutral evil during the archon quest her idea of eternity is directly opposed to her sister the previous archon and she decided to completely abolish that idea for her own and while she says her actions are for the good of inazuma it seemed more like she was doing it all for her own sake. She locked down her nation, started the vision hunt degree and hid herself away in the realm of her mind in order to selfishly stop time from moving so she dosent lose anyone again. While I do absolutely love Ei and she is definitely a very tragic her actions betrayed both her sister and a large part of inazuma for her own ideals which I why I believe she’s neutral evil.
I forgot to specify I meant archon quest Ei specifically she goes through major changes afterwards
Hey Aster, I would really like your take on the possible connection between the worlds of honkai and Genshin. Because from what i have seen so far, in videos along with the change of name to "Hoyoverse", this theory that both worlds are connected seems very plausable.
I've never even heard of DND alignment before. No clue what you are talking about. Oh I learned about Lawful good neautral good, chaotic good I am pretty sure in school. Maybe in character development in writing?? Hmm I def did not know that was a DND thing. Im unsure it's always been a DND thing.
Chaotic Neutral. The one Alignment most fun to watch but not fun to experience.
Well done Aster. I think you did a fine job especially taking into account how each character interprets the law etc.
The alignment chart is always going to leave room for debate because it's both subjective and often interpreted by those outside the characters viewpoint.
Childe might be the hardest to classify in the sense that he has a very self driven goal to become the strongest weapon. If it was not for his desire to protect his family to counter balance this ambition he could easily fall into a Neutral/Evil category. However because of his code it's not so simple.
Plot Twist: What do you think would have happened to Tartaglia if his brother Tucer was in Liyue when he released Osial? How do you think he would have reacted had Osial injured or killed his little brother?
I believe that Ei is more of a True Neutral, but the puppet is Lawful Neutral
The hardest character to pin point there would be Shenhe imo
Ei and Tartaglia I disagree with – interested to see the other vids in this series.
That's why Targalia is also considered an anti-villain. He understands and upholds that civilians that are not in a contract with the Fatui should not have to deal with their world in the shadows. I also think he stays neutral until he sees the experiment done on children for himself. He's also a by-product of the Child Soldier programs in Snezhnaya, he probably doesn't see the harm in it yet.
If we evaluate good and evil based on the intentions, every person is good, because no one, save for some kinds of mental illnesses, ever believes to be doing something evil. People are always convinced to be acting from a place of understanding and morality, and the belief to be acting for good is the cause of most (and the worst) atrocities ever commited in history. That's right, even the likes of Hitler had the best intentions for their people, and saw their atrocities as a necessary step for the greater good. Same for law/chaos: every person follows an internal code–it's our beliefs and neural models, that tell us how to respond to a variety of situation, and that we'll defend like we're being attacked by a bear (quite literally, given the brain regions that activate in these processes). This is how humans work (if you want to read more, I warmly recommend "The Science of Storytelling", by Will Storr), and it's one of the many reasons why D&D alignments are an extremely hamfisted idea at best.
Ei's alignment during the archon quest is what prompted this post. She knew what was happening, and left things to rot and people to suffer because she didn't believe that those things were a threat to eternity. Sure, she didn't mean to harm anyone, and she kept telling herself that it was for the best of Inazuma, but she was callous to the needs of her people, which makes her Vison Hunt Decree self a tyrant–>LE.
Venti is lawful good? Hello? Venti isn’t exactly one for following rules and is willing to resort to petty crime and at worst overthrow a civilization that is using rules to oppress others. He is definitely Chaotic in alignment.
I love how you didn't choose "non-human" or "other", but "abominations" lmao
Ei started pretty much as Lawful Evil though, LE description:
"A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard for whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion. He is comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but is willing to serve."
How I wish you do a topic on DnD classes for the genshin characters.
OOOOOH KLEE CHAOTIC NEUTRAL. Havent seen the vid yet, still in intro, but EASY!
Great video!
All the alignments fit like a glove!
Wouldn't be farfetched to rate it a 10/10.
Good/Evil is sometimes used in the sense of "selfless/selfish" – with decided emphasis that selflessness is not inherently kind nor is selfishness inherently harmful.
The selfless/selfish interpretation works for some characters but not others: Zhongli, for example. He is a wholly Neutral character, as interpreted and elaborated in this video analysis, but he is ALSO a character who was, technically and in practice, selfless and is now indulging in "selfishness" (…albeit in a selfless manner) by retiring himself as Liyue's living god.
True Neutrality is an alignment that fits most commonly with non-human characters – elemental beings, immortals, persons removed from earthly wants and needs. This often plays in with the concept of "blue/orange" morality, as a contrast and explanation for the Moral Codes of beings "alien" to the black/white moral interpretations of humanity. "Alien", in this usage, can mean everything from celestial entities to Outlanders to animals & elementals: slimes are neither good nor evil and, while seemingly chaotic to humans, they are not quite sapient enough to truly be classified along that scale of alignment either.
As an example within Teyvat, Oceanids to The Player are seemingly Neutral Evil but, to themselves and other non-human sapients, are more accurately "Lawful Neutral" or even "Lawful Good" (in the sense of sacrificing themselves over & over to fight for the sanctity of their elemental dominions.
Humans raised by non-humans (Shenhe, Razor) often struggle to align along the black/white systems of human society versus the orange/blue of nature. For beings both human AND alien (the Abyss Order vibes as much), codes of morality become even more flexible and subjective: Enjou went through "Chaotic Good", "True Neutral", "Lawful Evil", "Chaotic Neutral", and returned to us as both "Lawful Evil" AND "Chaotic Good".
Alignments shift over time and appear differently depending on which contexts other characters are aware of. The fluidity of alignment and application of it to various characters is an exercise in casual philosophy, personal introspection and, most of all, a study in character and setting. I look forward to future videos of Genshin character rankings.
(i do hard headcanon all human toddlers as "Chaotic Evil": they have no concept of morality and, at such a vulnerable stage in life, MUST be wholly selfish so as to ensure their own safety – there ARE some exceptions to my Absolute, neurodivergent toddlers often vibing to me as "True Neutral" at its most philosophically ridiculous)
Just going by the archons' respective ideals, Venti's Freedom is very much on the Chaotic side, while Zhongli's Contracts are ultimately a form of Order. Raiden's Eternity is less pro-Order than it is highly anti-Chaos. The Hydro archon's Justice is a fairly Lawful construct much like Zhongli's Contracts. The Pyro archon's War could really go either way, and the Dendro archon's Wisdom really doesn't care about anything on the standard alignment chart.
Anyone noticed the bridge north of Mt. Hulao recently?
i cant wait for part two!!! this is so good!!!
I absolutely love the care that went into each alignment! I will say I'd consider Venti lawful to a fault, just like Zhongli, because they will do anything to honor the spirit and principles of their region and their people, even step down from being a god.
I agree with this list
I'd say that Venti is more Chaotic Good or Chaotic neutral than Lawful.
You just explained why I like venti in a video! His actions speak louder than any of the words he says.
Scaramouche is chaotic evil, and so is Tartaglia, as they love battle, revenge and hurting people. Venti is the opposite of lawful, he is chaotic good. As the god of contracts, Zhongli would be lawful neutral, except that he went to extraordinary lengths to stop the sea monsters terrorizing Liyue, making him more lawful good. Ganyu is lawful good; she's vegan, pacifist, and self-sacrificing. Ei is lawful neutral.
Zhongli being true neutral is basically the Geo element
I’m glad someone else sees Zhongli like Lawful Neutral! (Or something similar to that)
I feel xiao can be both lawful good and neutral good.
bruh Venti is obviously CG!!
Wait what? Sara killed Tomo?!
Shenhe might be true netural/ neutral evil?
