Hi guys! This is a very different video from what I usually post and a lot of people wanted to know what Quadratic Scaling in genshin impact means so I decided to make a video on it! I hope this is helpful to anyone watching 🙂

NOTE: enemies have to be clumped close together for this to work! I didn't mention this in the video because I thought it was common knowledge but I still should've so I'll just leave it here. This is also why Venti is a core part of Morgana team comp.
This was a very different and unique experience since I've never made a video like this but I hope it was somewhat helpful!
claim your ayato on twitch.tv/CrypticBoss
Water breathing 11th form 😂😂
Really well explained, awesome!!
Makes me even more excited to pull for him( hopefully i win the 50-50 i will not have enough for hitting double pity)
So both ayato and childe got quadratic scaling now(childe E and ayato Q). Imagine using ayato's Q first then use childe meele the screen would explode with blue numbers
Okay. So now basically I just need that drunkard bard and the boba guy himself aayyy *cries in primogems π_π
This is why we love CrypticBoss. He listens to his viewers and to the community.
Oh I didn’t know any of this lol thanks for the information it really helps I’m now looking forward to how Ayato plays.
prayge for kazuha to come home at early pity for all of us his wanters :')
in all seriousness, to whoever wants to pull for ayato or their favorite characters i wish you all the best of luck!
stay safe <3
I don't expect him to be OP. I want him for his attackspeed buff the same way I want Zhongli for his elemental and physical resistance shred.
So basically it's splash damage. Splash damage requires a main target which deals damage to every enemy in a small area surrounding the main target it just happens to be multiple projectiles hitting individual enemies and splashing those damage to each other.
Finally someone who mentioned this, the Brazilian community (which I am a part of) is deifying the Ayato + Ayaka combo, and forgetting about this mechanic in the Ganyu + Ayato duo and still saying that Kokomi or Mona are better than him with Ganyu in perma freeze, and It's already clear from the leaks, that Ganyu and Ayato's synergy is at 100% frozen, unlike Mona, and unlike Kokomi, Ayato has the potential to do a lot of damage, even enough to not need to use Milelith and the catalyst t3 that buffs atk%+Ritual in a permanent freeze composition.
i currently caught between going for raiden c2 or holding out for ayato and kazuha. ayato seems so versatile like a new ganyu so its a tough choice 😭
im sorry if this comes of the wrong way .. i honestly intend for this to be constructive criticism.
Quadratic scaling is not what you explained .. i hope others can also learn from this … i just would like to share what by definition quadratic scaling would be
the irony here is … all those people who say .. where in your life would you use math … meanwhile the game be like 😑
quadratic scaling would be say he scales of EM … for example
lets say 1 EM gives him 10 damage
hence
if he has 10 EM he would deal 100 damage
if he had 100 EM it would deal 10 000 damage
etc
This is quadratic scaling
remember that math class with quadratic equations ?
x^2 + bx + c
Yeah thats quadratic scaling … its simplest form would be x^2 as i applied above
if the b value is negative it would reduce its insane scaling from its simplest form
This is pretty much how Childe works, nothing new.
My friend keep dissing Childe cause of his low numbers but I keep telling him about this but he doesn't understand.
these drawings kinda sussy tbh
Bruh so basically every character that has any source of aoe dmg has quadratic scaling?
🌸😹It would appear that MiHoYo would spare no expense in ensuring Ayato would yield maximum scrumptiousness, and thus be a treat for Simp and Meta enthusiasts alike!😹🌸
FINALLY someone who explains it well! Thanks for this and for putting more information in the pinned comment. You really listen to your community and it shows! I will share this to my friends who still don't understand quadratic scaling on ayato
Raiden with 4piece Emblem set also has quadratic scaling. 2 things are scaling of ER, burst damage bonus and electro damage bonus. Therefor, she has a quadratic scaling.
Kamisato siblings OP
Very helpful and informative ! Keep up the great work man 😀😀
Still they should buff his e skill slash to 200℅ each slash only then he will become a good hydro dps because there is no pyro enabler other than xianling with this he can also be good in freeze team which do not hav ayaka Or ganyu
My question is, whats the big deal here? Everyone is still only taking 100 damage as intended. In any game im playing, unless an aoe skill specifies a maximum enemy cap of how many the skill will effect, im already fully expecting every enemy to take damage in this manner. Why would anyone expect the 100 damage to be split evenly among the amount of enemies in the aoe?
I don't think you described quadratic scaling. I think you described AOE… Quadratic scaling is more like a chain reaction of damage. Example if each character hit by aoe creates its own aoe hitting the characters adjacent. to my knowledge, Child is the only character with true quadratic scaling. I think swirl reactions can create a similar effect but you need multiple characters and elements to do that.
im still thinking if i should pull for ayaka or ayato, i already have ganyu which is already a great cryo character, but i really think ayaka would be a great addition to my team. then again, ayato and ganyu can work great together. so im still confused whether i should pull for ayaka or ayato
Now how is this any different from Zhong li hitting 3 enemies at the same time with a 60k ult, therfore being a total damage of 180k?
Cause the damage doesn't change just the number of enemies being affected by that.
Take an enemy with 10hp, now if you hit them they lose 5hp, meaning they lost half of their health bar. Now take 3 of said enemy, hitting them all at the same time results in a total loss of 15hp, but that's the combined numbers, which means from a total 30hp they lost half. On a scale that's the exact same damage dealt to a single one.
this is why i like childe's riptide
This used to function super well when the abyss had a lot of trash mobs but now since it's just a single target boss rush I personally Don't think quadratic scaling matters
Basically water Ganyu with a sword 🗡️
To explain it much simpler: each drop or icicle has area of effect or aoe damage
The way you describe of his attack. Make me think of Chongyun burst instead of Ganyu….. Since you only said 3 icicles and hit 3 enemy any way.
Where exactly is he broken? The enemies still take 100 damage per droplet. The thing that I still can't understand is where those 26k are coming from. He should have around 200% in his ult per droplet for damage numbers to be like this. And that's with emblem set bonus. I know his ult has a slight hp scaling on top on its raw % damage but I don't think it affects the damage THAT drastically. Okay, I like him and I'll get him and then I'll see what exactly the efff is happening here
4 minutes in a 7 minute video paroting what tenten explained with the same pictures. you get an F for plagiarism
Great vid. I didn't know about this. My Ganyu + Venti team is going to get a huge upgrade when Ayato comes out.
Just a warning. As a Ganyu main and as someone who might whale for Ayato, sad to say that Quadratic scaling is basically almost pointless in the current abyss wherein you fight bosses and just few enemies on the field at the same time. Also, crowd control skills(venti's burst is the best) plays a very big role as well, so if an abyss floor only has 2-3 enemies at the same time and none of them can be sucked by venti's burst then don't expect quadratic scaling to do anything for you.
