The reason I will still end up using VV is because I ended up getting better crit VV pieces trying to get EM for Venti, Kazuha. The good Shimenawa's pieces clash positions with my Gladiator, so can't have them both.
There're so many parameters that can switch which loadout is better for xiao but a general advise I can give is:
Just go with the one that has the most perfect substat (atk%, crit rate, crit damage, and ER), because Xiao loses so much potential if you don't have 4/4 substats that xiao wants, unlike other dps that scale with multiple stats (HP and EM for hutao, or DEF for Itto). If you are new and don't have any artifacts, farm shimenawa domain over vv domain.
I had a feeling about attack being better. Woulda you still use a anemo cup over attack%?
I've been waiting for this for nearly an year, now after months of farming I have enough decent artifacts to choose between all 3 sets mentioned and with a but of luck got a homa as well recently. This patch is gonna be amazing

There's this soul guy who made a video on a xiao comp, he calls it ingus (some flame god or something). It's xiao, sucrose, Bennet then XG, I'm saying this because valk didn't give any f2p team.
I'll probably play him with Bennet, jean and Mona and mix it around, maybe remove Bennet because he is high demand and put XL there instead or maybe remove her too and put fischl or XQ.
I didnt even know this was a thing, I just automatically changes to double ATK% since 15% anemo is just kind of poopy in general.

We all know the "best" Xiao set is running him on 4pc vv and a mix of EM and Crit using him as driver for taser

You can even get away with a Rainbow set or just 2pc of shime/glad/vv since if raw stats gain you 25% more dmg its probably worth more than the 18% atk or 15% dmg mod you gain from running less powerful pieces for setbonusses

I'm 2 VV + 2 Shimenawa and my Xiao's attack is already over 2300. I'll probably hunt for "better" artifacts anyway. The gacha within the gacha!
I use 2 piece emblem because I don’t get enough ER on subs. 😂
Having C1 Xiao is convenient. I use him myself with Blackcliff and 2 Glad 2 VV, atk% on goblet and he still deals really good damage.
I'm hoping that eventually Mihoyo will give him his own artifact set T^T

anybody have a source for some math/ data on this? the consensus i've heard until this was 2VV/ 2SR or 2Glad > 2SR / 2Glad, even if only slightly (whichever has better substats would ultimately be better based on what i've read in the past).
With 2 glad and 2 shimenawa, you still do decent damage outside of ult and skill

Xiao cares more bout overall stats over set bonuses. I run 2-glad/2-emblem. Why Emblem? Cause he needed some ER.
His stats: 2574 ATK, 77/190 Crit, 130% ER

I discovered your channel a year ago before 1.3 because my Xiao hype was distracting me from work and your regular preparation streams on here were the perfect remedy. 😁 Our boy needs more love Mihoyo, give him a dedicated set, supports or even a better weapon!!!

If you are running Xiao-Sucrose/Jean for Battery and grouping, I’d still recommend going for VV at the moment if you don’t already have good 4 set vv pieces (EM for sucrose, atk% for Jean)
I'm still using shime x2 and vv x2 just because I managed to get good pieces for this – glad def needs more work on my end, hopefully I get a good goblet or flower to try the damage comparison one day
I don't know if this is a good team for Xiao but I like using Childe,Bennet, and Barbara it's been a great team for him so far I swap Barbara for sucrose out occasionally
2pc VV actually boosts your elemental skill more than another 2pc atk would, but 2pc glad 2pc shime is pretty much the same for Ult plunges.

Sooo if we happen to be f2p and have both blackcliff and skyward spine, which do we use? I am trying to get him and his c1 but I only have enough for two pities
The thing is my vv pieces are way better than my shim ones. I might farm them while trying for better shogun pieces. The only thing i'm not so sure about is the goblet, i don't know if it would be better to get an attack or anemo goblet, depends on how much attack my build ends up having but my new helmet ended up rolling into attack a few times so i think i'll be fine.
