I feel like the reason she is overshadowed so often is because of the existence of Xiangling. Since Xiangling is currently at the top of the meta at the moment, many people overlook Yanfei as they both are pyro 4 star characters with one being more popular then the other. However, from my time using her in friendship farming, I've have quite a bit of fun using her even if I would never actually main Yanfei or use her in the abyss.

So far my Yanfei Ei combo is very good damage when Yanfei is pure EM and my Ei is pure attack build (probably not the best lmao) so I can easily pump out a stream of 9k reactions when Ei has downtime from her burst with her skill combined with Yanfei so I found a nice use for her

Are you serious. Yanfei is a beast. She's the only reason I continue to play the game. She's carried me all the way to AR50 and with out her my teams are crap.
I don’t go by the meta particularly, I have chosen, despite having ganyu, that I want sayu as my main dps, and I can say that yanfei is fantastic for quick pyro application. I use her to set someone on fire then I use sayu and swirl the pyro around

Yanfei doesn't need a change, but she could use a buff
I pretty much only play characters that have some sort of off-field skill, which is why I generally prefer putting my Yoimiya on teams because when she’s off-field I can still use her burst. That being said, I love Yanfei. There’s just something so satisfying about dropping an anvil on a group of enemies (and sometimes getting that additional crit explosion). She’s one of the few characters that I trialed and immediately went “I have to build her.”

hang on… saying ning is not good enough past early game is just wrong… im not a whale, but i do have BP+blessing and ive been playing basically since start
Ning very well might be one of the strongest single target dps units in the game… (ignoring 5* with constellations)
my 4p petra ning that i farmed for like a week or so does about 600k damage every rotation – (E, Q, E charge) which in single target scenarios matches the damage of my C2 raiden.
she is 100% independant as a character and if you want to use her she gives you acces to geo resonance…
i actually started using her in raiden benet zhongli +1 team… i tryed my C6 sara, yae and a bunch of other units, but by far ning works the best in there
I agree with your points but xiangling is one of the best dps's in the game and noelle at c6 is cracked even better than some 5 stars ofcourse not shogun or ayaka level but still cracked.

I dont think i ever heard anyone call noelle a 4 star main dps. Yeah i use her like that, and she can do big boy damage. But to be honest, i see her more as an all-rounder than a real main dps.
I'm a Yanfei main simply because I really enjoy her playstyle, I think she's super fun to play with and she carried me through most of my time playing Genshin. Honestly at first I only wanted her because I didn't have any pyro characters other than Amber (who I couldn't use because I'm horrible at aiming) but after getting her from Zhongli's banner, I realized she's amazing so she became my main dps and I still love her, even if I got a better 5* dps, I don't think she'll leave my team anytime soon. I know a lot of people don't really like catalysts but I do, I think they're a lot of fun to play with so she's perfect for me ^-^

Im using Shogun, Barbara, Yanfei and Eula and I think that Shogun E with Yanfei is soo good 😀
I bench my characters when i played them until they get to friendship level 10 so i dont get bored – so no raiden benny and kequing for me lol (as someone who loses 50/50 every time i dont get new characters very often…) yanfei is next in line after sucrose coming in a team 🙂
yanfei is the only catalyst that can actually aim in my experience also with yae she becomes an overload machine gun it's so fun

She was my main for a long time until I wanted to try out playstyles without Pyro (like freeze and superconduct combos). She is incredibly strong, and since a lot of banners featured her, I got her C6 a long time ago. She's like Klee, but a lot easier to use. They basically have the same passive talent (showing local specialties on the map) and are both Pyro Main DPS. Yanfei can have an extra shield though, and her attacks are faster. I love her. Basically a free 5 star.
I just got c6 yanfei and she’s cracked. Her and Mona are elite together
My Yanfei can do 36K with her E 😭😭 she’s so underrated
