Welcome to the Harbinger series, where I’ll be diving into the potential lore and theories revolving around the unreleased Harbingers, and today, let’s talk about the Second Harbinger, Il Dottore. But today, I actually want to plug in another extra lore question about him: What does or can he know about the divine? About the state of the world and about the mysteries of life prior to the existence of Celestia? So let’s begin.

Disclaimer, this compilation doesn’t include any leaked or datamined Gods; I’m just going to be talking about the ones that have been confirmed in the game’s canon. I also hopefully haven’t missed any Gods from 3.6 considering this patch is still very new, but if I did, feel free to put it down in the comments. I’m also going to be very transparent because this is just a motif analysis and not really anything deeper, I’ll only be using surface sources like Wikipedia or Britannica since I don’t think anyone here wants to see me start reading latin. But fun fact the whole PDF of a book of lucifer is apparently available and I have read it before trying to look for Paimon allegories.

  2. Il Dottore is so unspeakably evil that the ONLY way HoYo could make him playable is through a recently built Segment who is 'failed' and not so ruthless and inhuman (and I still wouldn't touch him and his banner with a 10' pole).
    Of course, the possibility to have even a 'not completely Evil-and-rotten-to-the-core Segment' in the party is very low due to the presence of Wanderer, who swore to destroy AT LEAST Dottore among the Harbingers; the presence of both among the Traveler's allies is not granted at all (and I would be good with that).

  3. To be honest hoyo has the perfect villain and is a greatly loved character but heated at the same time for him to have a redemption arc it’s just lazy and honestly doesn’t make sense he clearly is pure evil and only cares about his experiments So it would be better if he was just not playable

  4. Dottore is a particularly unsettling creature. His complete lack of empathy, unyielding arrogance, and perpetually collected demeanor all make for an entity capable of unconscionable evil. If there is anymore evidence for the Fatui being an evil organization, you needn’t look much further than at that/those thing(s) called “Il Dottore.”

  10. Unpopular opinion but I don't want him to be playable. I think they're going to try to redeem him and that is going to ruin his character. I want him to be unhinged 💀 and not "uwu sory my mistake oopsie"

  13. I love how dramatic queen dottore can be when he is disappointed Niwa is dead b4 he finished his villain intro he went "Tsk! Already DEAD…" LIKE HE HAS TO PUT SO MUCH SALT IN THAT ONE WORD HELP 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 MAN IS SALTIEST DRAMA QUEEN

  16. its so… weird to me that he has a ruin guard lab???? wouldn’t that be sandrone’s expertise? or they just collab on research (im avoiding the boring answer of ‘they didn’t have made her yet during childe’s quest’, yes.)

  20. My biggest question right now is when will the abyss become a main enemy again. We see them in the interlude quests but they haven't been a threat since "we will be reunited." It's been mainly the futui and the traveler is currently outpacing most of the harbingers in strength and is catching up in influence very rapidly. Soon enough the traveler will be able to beat the futui by themselves especially if they keep uncovering the dirty secrets. They are banned from inazuma, put on heavy watch in liyue and now with nahida back in charge of sumeru they are running out of countries to manipulate while having lost two harbingers at the same time and we know we are more powerful than childe along with any noncombatant harbinger.

    Also aster, in the desert you'll find a big ruin guard to the south, climb in it's arm, there will be a note that's very interesting

  30. I was really struck by the cutscene of his segments dying words. All of them are arguing, saying omega build is stupid for this, that they'll make him pay if he thinks he's won, etc, and their voices are all layered over each other, ranging in pitch but all around probably 25+. Then the final line, the one that isn't layered with another segment, with its writing smack in the center, is shouted by a very young sounding voice saying just simply "YOU WILL REGRET THIS!" Not attempting to sound superior, to sound calm, just mad. I think this segment, or the one that replaces him, is the youngest one of the group, probably before Zandik starts being sus at the Akademiya or just at the start. I also think this will be the playable Dottore. It feels like he's maybe bullied or mistreated by the others, to the point that he doesn't attempt to prove anything, and is younger and therefore more open to change. He'll probably still be a mad scientist freak man but we can perhaps get him to /not/ be homocidal if he's given validation at that phase, or maybe resources for his experiments under the rule that he can't do evil shit with it.

    I think this is a good way of having your cake and eating it too irt Dottore's irredeemability. He's too shitty of a guy to even consider an unforgiven but useful ally, like Scara might be in some people's eyes, but this younger version of him has not gone past the point of no return. Idk if they'll stick the landing– I kinda think Genshin is in general too forgiving of character's transgressions — but it'll be interesting at least.

  31. Another interesting fact about Dottore's character is the fact that he know what he is and sees himself as a monster too. During Wanderer's quest, Nahida was describing Scara's story through a fairytale book and described Dottore as a monster who used a disguise to interact with others. Nahida described Dottore that he uses the disguise to be accepted by others and pitied Tataratsuna's people for not be able to see through him. Until Scara, a puppet was accepted by them and Dottore took it personally as if he was mad on how an inhuman creature like Scaramouche could be accepted so easily and finishes his mission before manipulating Scara. This gives thoughts on how Dottore was never accepted by anyone, everyone sees him as a horrible monster but when he uses a disguise in Tataratsuna he felt surprised to be accepted but pitied them that they cannot see what he really was. Maybe deep in there in Tataratsuna wss one of the few times Dottore ever felt accepted by others because of how much people sees him as a horrible human being but when someone like Scara, an already inhumane being was accepted so easily, he felt envy, jealous and furious that he had to hide his ugliness just to be accepted by others while he did not

  32. I really want Dottore to be playable. And casting famous VAs raises quite the possibility. His JP VA has portrayed Iruka in Naruto and the primary antagonist Muzan in Demon Slayer. That's a big casting right there.

  33. Aster, what do you think of Ararycan? I personally think he's very sus, including that fatui symbol on his head. what if Zandik made Ararycan to study aranaras? it'd be so interesting!

  34. Idk how he's going to be playable. We have a handful of scheming and unfeeling characters in the roster who could've killed us if they deemed it necessary but this guy is on another level of inhumaneness. How am I supposed to leave his current self in my teapot without anything getting dissected when I return

  35. Il Dottore really reminds me of Fabius Bile, they are both masters of cloning and mad science.
    Both of them are terrifying men that are willing to do anything in the pursuit of knowledge and both take great pride in their heretical achievements no matter how sickening or infamous.

  39. i like how you pointed out that there are no 100% pure evil characters in genshin which makes dottore's case even more fascinating. he really seems unredeemable, so i'm very excited to learn what was his side of the story and what led to that psychotic way of objectifying human lives. i really thought that we'll see more of him in sumeru, since if he's zandik then he IS from sumeru right? but it looks like we'll learn more about him in another land, hopefully fontaine (and HOPEFULLY we don't have to fight him because he is number 2 after all, the dull blade can't get us through that)

I think the one who made Fatui based on commedia dell'arte was trying to show true "Chaos" cuz commedia dell'arte basically represent every aspect of human society but in Genshin they literally inversed it for example doctor and pantalone hate each other in commedia but in Genshin they are partner

  43. i really would like doctor to be a real maniac from beginning not that something happened and he became a bad guy…he is so cruel and this makes him a perfect villain. i want that he was a really maniac from beginning towards his experiments even when he was in akedmiya and this amde him get expelled. i highly believe ZANDIK is his real name and if we go
    according to the lore of this "zandik" then he killed? or mistakenly harmed his colleague so much that they died on spot…ALSO when we meet doctor for the first time nahida clearly states that he was the guy who got expelled from akedmiya meaning he was a scholar to be least
    ALSO does anyone thinks that doctor's all clones are removed? i don't think so i mean his clones could have been removed by nahida but the knowledge required for making clones is still with doctor so he can make more
    when i first saw doctor he really haves the bad aura with him as a character mihoyo did a good job

  44. Taking into account Honkai's narrative, the Fatui Harbringers actions are akin to the Flamechasers. Dottore have traits of Mobius and Vil-V; researchers whom attempts to uncover every secret of the world, multiple personalities through different methods(segments, regression, Honkai active reaction). Even delusions functions are similar to artificial stigmata, like how Vision are akin to natural stigmata, especially the concept of forms, wishes and ideals.
    With the recent world and Nahida's 2nd story quest, it's much more apparent that Teyvat is a product of the Flamechasers Project SAVE; Project Ark, though it's unknown if its a leaf attached to the Imaginary Tree, or a bubble universe, or anchored though an Ether Anchor. Even some of the hidden lore through books, quests, and artifacts are in line with Griseo's event. Important terms in Honkai have different naming sense in their connected games/narratives.
    It's likely the ultimate plan is akin to Finality, in Genshin's terms/methods. The traveller's role is akin to Elysia, being a partial chance in changing the overall fate of Teyvat to some extent.

  47. I still can't get rid of the idea that Fatui are actually positive force and what they are trying to achieve is the only working approach to dealing with Celestia but we will have to travel all the way to Snezhnaya before we finally understand it.
