What's Going On With Natlan? Into the Nation of Fire [Genshin Impact Lore, Theory, and Speculation]

#genshinimpact #shorts #natlan
Natlan is actually one of three nations that was mentioned in the Genshin Impact Webcomic, alongside Mondstadt and Sumeru. The main character of the Webcomic is actually a nomad from Natlan, Vennessa, and several points of her travel and the culture of her tribe. So why is it that when we get to the game, there’s barely any information about Natlan’s culture and people? Like, at all? There’s no NPCs, vague books, or even descriptions of the place besides its hotsprings. Which is a shame because we’ve had all these crumbs about Sumeru, Fontaine, and even Snezhnaya months before their release.

  1. Aster: Excited for Natlan because of mysterious lore and expected region based on pre-Columbian America.
Captains: Excited for Natlan because we get to see Himeko Murata again.

  2. I'm a Mexican and most of the cultural tribes here , yes there are different ones with ideals , thecnologys etc … But most of them were in fact based primarily on combat since the Aztecs aka the primordial civilization were conquerors and if u wanted freedom u had to fight for it … Which appeals a lot to the details we know about Natlan

Also a detailed is that Aztec warriors had different types of animal leathers depending on their first hunt to prove themselfs , the more common ones where jaguars and wolf's which composed the bulk of the Aztec armies , while eagles where consider something more akin to wisdom and guidance so it usually whore by elders , generals and scouts

The more ceremonial ones where usually whore by rulers of the nation or people which speaked to the gods and where in charge of blessing farming , buildings or even medical stuff

  3. For me, being a Latino, Natlan was based on some mixture of pre-Columbian cultures, such as the Aztecs, Maya, Incas, among others, where we have all kinds of warrior groups, intellectuals, with great wealth, all under the command of the archon pyro and they living or seeking the approval of their archon through the different ways that a war can be waged, since one can not be waged only through direct combat.

That is why there will be many peoples with different cultures but united by a single cause, being rich in many aspects, being the one that I show in the trailer the representation of all these.

  4. Wait. Since the events of the manga have happened 1200 years before our era and that the cataclysm happened 500 years ago, does that mean that Murata might have been already gone ?

  5. I love the video but the way you pronounced nahuatl made me laughed a lot, I'm sorry. I'd be cool if they use mayas too
If Natlan is truly influenced by mexicas, then i hope to see army divisions with different names and ritual attire

If Quetzacoatl or Kukulkan lore isn't rescued and connected to the traveler and the theory of him having already explored Teyvat in the past, I'm gonna be very disappointed.

  6. As someone who is Yoruba and closely follows the traditional faith, I've talked to others who follow the faith and I'm not sure how to feel about characters being named after orisha/orixa/oricha. Some have felt that it's a continued trend of commodifying Yoruba faith and others say that it's just disrespectful, especially if the characters named after them deviate greatly from the orisha themselves in regards to appearance/depiction/inspiration. I just find it a little strange, it's not like Sumeru which has Apep who's named after an ancient Egyptian deity, since these beliefs are still around and have plenty of active worshippers who often have to pushback against discrimination and commodification of their beliefs.

  8. As soon as I saw this video on my recommended, I knew this was going to be an exciting one for me as I’m Mexican myself + it’s Genshin, so how could I note?

But as you could tell, I’m definitely on board with Nathan being inspired off of the Aztecs/Mexico and I’d also like to discuss a few things I think are noteworthy to mention.

A: Mexico’s flag features an eagle sitting on a cactus with a snake in its mouth, this emblem of the Mexican was based on this Aztec tale and is the symbol for Tenochtitlan, which is what we now know as Mexico City today and this was the center of the Aztec Empire during its time.
    The legend goes as follows:

[Important note: The Aztecs never referred to themselves as “Aztecs” but instead they called themselves “Mexicas,” so whenever you see Mexicas, I’m referring to the Aztecs.]

Huitzilopochtli was the sacred god of the Mexicas, he was the god of war, the face of bloody victory. When the Mexicas were in search of a new land to conquer, he said that he would lead them to a place that he deemed fit for his people to live, and will emerge before the people as a white eagle; Once that day would come, they would build a grand city to honor him and they’d become conquers of this nation. So the Mexicas followed their god’s orders, and of course, bloodshed was involved during their quest, involving the skinning of a princess of another tribe on her wedding day as Huitzilopochtli had ordered his people out of the displeasurement of seeing them befriending other tribes rather than asserting their dominance. Once the murder had been carried out, the Mexicas were chased off of the land and hid out to escape the danger before they spotted a white land just up ahead. When they reached this white land, they found a cactus and standing on top of it was a white eagle with a snake in its mouth. They had finally found their home.
The fact that Vanessa was someone who was originally from Natlan and ascended to Celestia as an Eagle comes as no surprise to me, it’s a great detail.
[If you’re interested in hearing about the story in more detail, I recommend you watch “The Founding Of Mexico – Aztec Myths – Extra Mythology” by Extra History, there’s some other stuff that I also left out for the sake of keeping this short.]

B: The Aztec Empire was undoubtedly a powerful one, it was glorious and grand for its people and was a symbol of said power, and yet the fall of this grand empire and other rivaling empires, have never been documented and to this day, we still don’t know why. The Aztecs took pride in their name, we Mexicans in general take pride in our heritage because we are all fighters in some capacity, I assume that this could’ve been because they never documented this out of shame or because they never got the chance to write the scribes down before they were taken out, who knows; As you can imagine, there’s so many of us [Including myself] who have gone our whole lives without knowing our own history, because of this, it’s been lost to time, not even historians know and this is one of the worlds greatest unsolved mysteries; The fact that Natlan is also shrouded in mystery seems intentional to me knowing how every single word Hoyoverse has written out for us regarding the nations is too important to ignore, I doubt this was coincidental.

I personally speculate Natlan’s reason for being so mysterious is because it is currently going through a downfall or something is going on within its walls, maybe this is the “secret” or the “reasons” that the Archon has in store for us, because from all we’ve seen, it is a land full of glorious, but bloody victory. Maybe this is the special reason why the Captain harbinger is going to appear in this nation specifically.
[If you also want more details about the Aztecs and Mexico’s history, I suggest watching “The Animated History of Mexico” by Suibhne. Again there is also a bunch of stuff I have left out for the sake of getting straight to the point.]

Anyways. I’ll edit this comment if I think of something else, but this is all I can remember from the top of my head. Loved the video! Keep up the good work!

  9. This a huge reach, but with theories pointing Natlan may be based on South America…
There is a land in the most southern part called "Tierra del Fuego" ("Land of Fire"). I wonder if that may be a clue?
Consider this Tierra del Fuego is located on Chile, which basically sits right on top of the Ring of Fire, the underground magma flow within Earth's tectonic plates, this may sound even more accurate.
But again, this isba stretch the size of the fucking universe xD

  10. I could just be a moron. But if Natlan is based on the Aztec civilization, what if Natlan is actually rebuilding in the ruins of old Natlan?
I mean that Natlan at some point was destroyed, and that's why nobody is leaving anymore. The people left were basically forced to stay and rebuild.

  11. Maybe if the archon of Natlan values things such as ascension and her connection with celestia and the heavenly principles. And the fact Natlan is the nation right before the nation of cryo ruled under Tsaritsa who is seemingly taking all the Gnoes, it could be that the Pyro Archon agrees with her views, maybe even personally gave her Gnois to the cause. I think that the traveler will actually learn the most we can about the Tsaritsa's plan before entering her land.

  12. Based on what there wearing you can tell it takes inspiration from Mexico but based on the story and even variety of skin colors you can tell it’s telling the story of west and North Africans

  13. The fact that we don't know what is going on with Natlan is probably for the best. Thinking about it my problem with the Inazuma archon quest is that it was pretty obvious that a confrontation with Raiden was going to be the climax was pretty obvious from the start.

  15. Mmmm if is true that it is inspired by México then the inner conquer wars will make a lot of sense, mexico in the pre-classic classic periods, were indigenous people from the north, nomads that were ferocious conqueror wanted the south territory, an all year round fertile soil with vasts lakes, they were the tlaxcaltecas and otomies (the traitors that helped the spanish folks) they thought that the Tenochtitlan people were a threats so they guided and helped the Spanish to take over their lands; perhaps there’s something similar happening but we instead of Spanish conquerors are the fatui

  16. On the topic of war, I think we’ll see Murata’s influence covering all forms of conflict from War to a small disagreement. Conflict isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We can grow from conflict and release pent up negativity. Maybe the Natlanders keep to themselves because they’re naturally brash and confrontational instead of holding anything back in interactions.

  17. TBQH, Sumeru has been the region I was most excited for. Didn't care much for Inazuma (I may complete Sumeru exploration before the Inazuma one) and the only thing I'm curious about Fontaint is the lochfolk issue.
Then Natlan is the next region I'm looking towards, exactly because it's so mysterious (and still bordering Sumeru in some way)
