1:40 Well I did that and now I have a neuvillette 😅😂
Why would people be complaining about the new commission system? It changes nothing for you if you don't have a backlog, it doesn't reward or punish you. I happen to have a backlog cause I hate desert exploration in any game, but I'm trying to scrounge primos for Furina so the timing just kind of worked out.
I never understood building pity. Why not just save the gems till the banners appears. That way your "building pity" can be used on actually getting the character rather than hoping the banners your building doesn't hit you with either of the 5 stars you dont want.
I've been playing since launch, and hearing people say "this game is easy" makes me rage. Don't dismiss 36-starring abyss just because you're a sweaty tryhard who learns all the monster's attack patterns so you can perfect i-frame, and have your rotations perfectly planned out, knowing you won't have to deviate from them at all…doesn't mean there are many people like that.
I laugh everytime I see or read people building pity and regret getting characters. You have nothing to blame but your own hubris.
New commision system is great. Big QoL improvement for players who don't have done 100% of game. Before I was doing quests, exploring, etc and then – wait wait, I must jump to comissions to not miss free daily primogems. And now … phew, I can have fun and play how I want and have daily comissions done meanwhile.
I looked at my data, and on the event banner, I've gotten two early 5 stars (Kokomi at 6, Diluc at 11), 2 at "mid" pity (Wanderer 63, Cyno 63 too), and everyone else (9 five stars) was at 74 or above.
About number 4, yeah, people always make conclusions based on what high level players do instead of looking at the general playerbase.
We've been coaching a friend on a discord server whose Yoimiya is a total beast, C1 with Thundering Pulse and good Shimenawa artifacts, but couldn't even hit consistent 5 digits because all of their supports were poorly built and they didn't know how to make the correct rotation.
Most players do understand the game's mechanics, but as you said, it's only when you start looking for ways to optimize gameplay that the difficulty spike suddenly changes.
I wouldn't recommend building pity to a person that literally gets 5 star in 50 pulls. People like myself (that do not have good luck and always get a 5 star in the 75th or 80th pull) should do it.
Jelle’s Marble Runs better 😀
the game is easy feels more like an excuse. there is only 1 difficult thing in the game and thats 36 starring the abyss not anything less than that. people have gone through the entire game without knowing anything about how it works. the fact you can just switch stuff around and 36 star the abyss tells you a ton about the difficulty. you're not hardcore because you are willing to learn about genshin, it's normal to learn about a game you play and abyss is a long's way off. We didn't start out with absolute knowledge, just look at how many things you had to add to that section to justify it. 1% of the game has a difficulty rating.
The reason I find the new commission system annoying is because I keep forgetting to switch to my friendship team before claiming the rewards, and end up waisting companionship xp on characters who are already maxed.
On commissions: it IS bad, just because not ANY "open chest" counts. Let me tell you this story: i log in, i see the "defend the monolith" commission and i'm like "nah~ i don't wanna do it" but i also don't have time to go and do the Archon quest, and so… I decide to go and find a chest. I teleport to the random location, i see a hillichurls' camp with the chest, i destroy them with all my ar60 power and collect the chest aaaaand…. nothing. IT DOESN'T COUNT! Why??? Why do i need to FINISH THE PUZZLE thing to get commission done? And so i start searching for some puzzle and spend like 10 minutes to find one, which i could spend on that fricking monolith and be done with. And what's worse, it doesn't count second puzzle, meaning you can do only one puzzle per day. This is ridiculous. And what's more, i don't understand what part of the Archon quest counts as a commission. Do i need to do first part of the quest, like "go there, meet that person, go there, boom finished" or do i need to do all 2-5 hours long quest just for it to count as a commission? Nah~ this is tedious…
What WOULD be GOOD: is switching those commissions to smth that we already do daily like "killing set type of monster and getting it's drop" or "collect 10 materials for ascension like flowers, stars, bugs" etc. Or smth specific like "finish talent domain, or finish weapon domain". I understand that those would clash with bp routine, but some of us do more domains than bp requires.
I don't want to spend 5 hours on the story quest that i don't wanna do rn, but i would like to have some motivation to go kill specters or samurais. I don't wanna collect oculis rn because i save those for a specific occasion when i can swoop them all on 1 day and max out the statue, but i would prefer if the game gave me motivation to collect those fucking bugs for Wriothesley. Do you get what i mean?
And if you think that i'm wrong… That's your opinion, don't shit on mine pls.
I find building pity for any of the OG 4*s except Sucrose isn't worth it because they're each available for purchase in the starglitter shop twice a year, doubly so for Liyue 4*s because they're offered once more per year at Lanter Rite, and triply so for Xiangling because you get her for beating Abyss floor 3.
#5 The "objectivity" and importance of meta
I had subjective opinions on which characters are good/bad, but lately I have adopted a different stance on that:
Characters are largely designed around a power budget (else we wold've had tremendous power creep already). 5* characters obviously have higher budget than 4* characters, limited 5* characters have a higher budget than standard 5* characters. So far archons also seem to be have slightly higher budget.
I'd say there are 3 big categories the character's budget divided into: Damage, support, energy. Ayaka for example has her budget allocated in damage, but struggles with energy and doesn't support her team, while Shenhe has most of her budget in the support category. Some characters receive additional downsides and restrictions like Hu Tao's or Xiao's HP loss or Nilou's Dendro/Hydro only kit.
There are some outliers like the original 4* that are considered "s-tier": I believe they had a somewhat equal power budget to most other 4* back on release, but the game (and our understanding) has evolved and people are generally between AR 55 and AR 60, where their strengths are very valuable and it's easier to deal with weaknesses like energy requirements. Note that adjusting character power level through indirect buffs (via enemies, mechanics, artifact sets) only is extremely difficult – at least if the overall balance of the like 70 characters should be kept. For example content, that would indirectly buff Xinyan would also potentially buff other Pyros, claymores and/or shielders. However, in my opinion nowadays they seem to have the respective power budget levels, they want to release characters with, figured out more.
So taking a step back helps recognizing that most limited 5* characters are in the same ballpark of strength, same for standard 5* characters or 4* characters. Means comparing Dehya/Diluc makes sense, while comparing Nahida's and Collei's power level is kinda moot. That mindset allows to ignore meta and pull for charaters, that fulfill specific roles I need, characters I want to have and characters I like playing instead of the new hot meta stuff, that I don't really like, but deals a tad more damage…
Love your intro!!! LMAO
This is why I love Jello Impact. He gives the best unbiased advice, and even then acknowledges and informs his audience that his advice may be subconsciously influenced by his own biases. It boils down to: play the game how you like, but figure out for yourself WHAT you like, and here are the different ways you can figure THAT out.
If early.pity exists I've only seen it when I go on the weapon banner after getting a standard weapon
My brother loves this game and he was on the phone with my every night for like two weeks. Explaining and re explaining the system. Everything was soooooo confusing to for me. Never played a game like genshin before. He really taught me about the reactions and that made all the difference in my damage!
imho, they need to add resin usage tasks to the commissions. So Laylines, bosses, dominas, etc..
I don't understand why people build pity, even if they don't spend a wish, it'll still stay there, its not like the wish is running away.
12:39 kind of contradictory, since the new system "punishes" you for being hard-core, so they're actually encouraging the casual to stay casual 😅
2:14 I mean… in the sense that there are a higher density of people who get 5stars on an early wish and then restart their pity, therefore never going back to 90… so distribution of number of 5star pulls on a number pity SEEMS higher on earlier pulls, but the chance isn’t actually any higher. the data we really need to determine the existence of early pity is number of 5stars pulled, using 90 as a reset number
I wish we could toggle constellations. C6 Bennett would be a fun buff on some of my characters
on the game not being easy, any time I hear or say it, it's specifically EXCLUDING spiral abyss (and often just about choosing characters and team comps, basically just "you're really not handicapping yourself THAT much if you want to do the story with xinyan"). before sumeru came out, I hadn't even started farming artifacts and I wasn't leveling character talents very high, and I was doing just fine with overworld content. it was definitely a lot EASIER when I started building characters "properly," but I wasn't struggling by any means. it would've been a bit more difficult if I knew even less, but I still don't think it would have been "hard." I have some pretty strong characters/teams (by my standards) but I recently decided to play for a bit with a half-built freminet supported by a half-baked fischl, and it was plenty easy to navigate. a little annoying, but only because I'm now so used to wiping out elite enemies in seconds, and I wasn't used to playing half the characters on the team.
Yeah, sniping a 4 star sucks, but it has to be done sometimes. This is how I got Childe and Neuvillette completely against my will
I do think everyone should build an anemo at least well enough to be a VV bot. I'm really glad they added Lynette as a F2P anemo alternative to anemo MC. Last year when I started I switched MC over to dendro to use on my dendro teams, but then I was left without any anemos on my account.
I tried wishing for Heizou early on but whiffed, and so it was literally like 3-4 months before I had any anemo characters on my account at all. Anemo is also very useful for overworld puzzles early on, and having to switch back to anemo MC all the time just to do them was a huge pain.
Also regarding the game being "easy" I would agree that I and anyone watching this channel are way more hardcore than the average genshin player. But when I mean when I say the game is "easy" is that it's more of a knowledge check and resin check than a mechanical skill check. The iframes in this game are incredibly generous compared to games like Monster Hunter. Same with animation commitment, positioning, optimal combos, etc. The game is just very easy to actually play on a mechanical level.
And the reason I feel the need to say the game is easy is because there are a lot of meta focused players who are VERY militant and get lost in the sauce of which character sheets 5% better than another. They say "why use character X when character Y is just better?" And the answer is because it doesn't actually matter. I enjoy talking about meta and understanding meta because it's fun for me, but a lot of people get WAY too sweaty and serious about efficiency and optimality in this baby game made for a casual audience.
people who 100% every map just need to wait for another mapt o be released and then they can engage with the daily system, its just a temporary inconvienece, they arent bbeing punished, unless they still 100% every map in whcihc case they inflicted that pain on themselves
I haven't needed to do a single commission since the update because I'm trying to find every chest in the game — i NEED Venti, and i just won two 50/50s in a row (mostly against my will, XINGQIU), so the chances of getting him first try are infinitesimal
Yeah I pulled a flow I'm building pity on nuevalette got a c2 zingxiou
You have a wife?? You look like a baby…
with the daily commisions, we haven't yet hit the lull in the update where it'll be practically useless for dedicated players. I love it right NOW, because I still have exploration and such to do, but in a week or so I'll either need to do it the old way or choose not to do them at all. there are plenty of days in each update where I really have nothing to do but complete commissions and use resin, meaning I can't benefit from the system at all. once we get to the updates without new archon/story quests or regions, it'll start out in that lull that would require old or no commission completion. it's great all the time for super casual players, has limited benefit for moderate players, and does basically nothing for hardcore completionist players, even though completing commissions used to be the same for everyone with no one having it better or worse. it benefits certain players much more than others, when they could have gone with something that benefits everyone pretty equally. it's not bad per se, it just sucks that it's SOOO hit or miss when it wasn't before.
Love your channel. Watch every one of your videos that are under 30 minutes – they have been extremely helpful for me. I generally pull the characters that I like the aesthetic design of. As far as how I use them – Raiden, Nahida, Zhongli, Yae Miko, and Kazuha, I use almost exclusively for their elemental skill. I have the fabulous five four star characters, all at C6 – rarely use them. My main DPS come from Yanfei – not anyone’s choice, but it works for me. I am in the over 65 club (much older actually). Eye/hand coordination sucks, and the casters are the easiest for me to use. No need to aim, no need for close quarter combat, just jump around randomly and spam the hit button. The other characters I use for DPS are Mona (C4), Kokomi, and Yae Miko (all casters). Concerning pity, I have got pity after 10 pulls, 28 pulls, and 46 – I rarely lose the 50/50 (hope my luck doesn’t run out), and usually get Mona when I lose.
For me besides the pass and walkin I only spend if I really want to snag a character
I'm a bit of a whale to an extent. I have just about every character, but only like one copy. Sometimes more if I got lucky, like with kazuha. The only character I actively go for more copies of is Hu Tao because she's my favorite. I like a challenge, but if there's something I just want to finish quickly, I just use Hu Tao XD
