The Worst Enemy Designs In Genshin Impact

Certain enemies in Genshin Impact leave much to be desired. While most Hoyoverse character designs tend to be top-notch in terms of animations and aesthetics… Unfortunately, sometimes the gameplay aspect can completely miss.

Before Fontaine comes out with a whole new cast of enemies to fight and entirely new mechanics and characters to play around with, I want to take a look back at the past 3 years of Genshin Impact and talk about the 10 worst-designed enemies in the game.

Thanks for watching 😊!

  1. For the sake of clarity, as always in these videos there is always room for further details and nuance. However, when making such videos there are time restrictions that I must abide by in terms of how long I spend making a video and how long the video itself is. While including a lot of information on a certain topic can be useful… The increase in information is directly proportional to the increase in the length of the video itself. Therefore, it is important to maintain a certain length that is appropriate for most viewers to watch.

For example, when talking about the Ruin Hunters, I would have mentioned that Xiao can jump and then E (Elemental Skill Dash) to break the Ruin Hunter's weak point. But in retrospect, such information is redundant because the main purpose of this video is to display a series of arguments rather than explain certain concepts in detail.

Some projects require an overload of details tho, don't get me wrong. Especially professional ones.

  2. It's a shame so few enemies in Genshin have interesting mechanics and boil down to stalling and staggering you to the moon. By the way an honorable mention to the specters that are basically flying whopperflowers.

  3. – Ruin Serpent can be targeted underground with Yae Miko

    – the Ruin Hunter flight mechanic CD is acceptable and is made to promote Archers

    – Golden Wolf lord is there to promote the use of Geo (That's all)

    – Wenut is there just so weNUT (By Annoyance)

    – Scara boss was made like that because many players would have had a hard time targeting the boss in it's second phase. (honestly I try hitting it's legs many times and even point blank I miss, so even though I don't like the bunny it was a necessary evil. It's just that the bunny shouldn't have made to do damage to it's HP after the shield is broken, leaving the players to actually kill it.)

End of it all, all enemies were made specifically to endorse a certain play style, with that logic their bad or lacking design doesn't seem too bad in my opinion.

  4. I play since day one and i remember how some of the enemies used to behave. For example: specters. For the majority of 2.0 versions these were the worst enemies to farm. Like slimes, they immune to their respective element, which is ok, i guess. But they were like mini-tanks that can fly. You couldn't group them up with Kazuha (or any other anemo user at that moment), they were fucking immovable, and their hp was as much as hp of a mini-boss. They also could stuck in the air and be out of reach for quite some time. I remember this shit happening in abyss where 1 tiny specter was flying near the ceiling because why not. Later Hoyo fixed their behavior and their hp, so now they're not so annoying anymore.
Enemies like nobushi or rifthounds were fixed so they could be grouped up by anemo cc. Their hp bars also went down a bit.
But let's talk about enemies that weren't fixed. Vishaps. I mean…. Why the hell they're still made out of paper? Like holy guacamole, if you just sneeze at them they will fly away to the fucking moon! I remember how much of an annoyance they were in 12-3 abyss in 2.7 (was it?) especially if you're Xiao main (i played on ny friend's account and she had Xiao, she asked me to help her with abyss 'cuz her mobile couldn't handle it). 80% of Xiao ult was wasted because the first two plunges were enough to force them take a few steps back, out of Xiao's ult reach. And there was no way to group them up. Because for some reason they were too heavy for to be sucked in by Venti's ult or Kazuha's e, but at the same time they were too light for be knocked back by the smallest attack (like you can group them up with Kazuha, kinda, because when Kazuha plunges back, they do the step back anyway, and if you don't play freeze, good luck with trying to keep them together longer than 2 seconds). Pure annoyance.

Also i find consecrated beasts an interesting enemies' design if only they weren't so random in their behavior and canceling their own moves midcast.

  5. 3:40 it's not really plunged attack that triggers this, it's jumping/flying/etc. to or at a certain height. For example, the hunter also immediately flies up when you use Scara's skill or if you approach a non-"sleeping" one from above (I did it countless times in that one Liyue commision).

  6. I do not think Whopperflower is bad. It is a fair enemy. Nothing wrong with an enemy that can dodge your attacks. It is also not some random meatshield but is moderately aggressive. By far the worst enemies are those things like Wenut and Ruin Serpent. I also like the Ruin Hunter. Ounce you learn its mechanics it is a predictable enemy. You know it is not like Xiao has to plunge. He still can do fantastic damage on the ground and Ruin Hunter is not a tanky enemy. If you does fly up you can actually jump up and dash into his eye to make him fall.

I agree on enemies where you basically just watch them, they are unaggressive, and you can not do much about it. Those are terrible and uninteractive. At least Scaramouche will attack you relentlessly. If the Wenut attacked you like crazy he would be more interesting because you would at least have something to do.

  7. Putting Scara above Rhodeia… actually, putting anyone on the list above Rhodeia… is a tragedy. Rhodeia is another stall boss with zero difficulty and zero boss mechanics. It takes longer than any other boss because you cant speed it up at all.

  8. After reconsideration between this top 10 and the previous one, many of the arguments given are highly biased towards a well-established late/endgame Genshin player. And the background footage almost exclusively showcases a *full limited 5☆ team* — with three of the strongest characters in the game. Of course one such powerful and expensive/invested team will let the player trivialize the vast majority of enemy encounters.

If a common problem mid- to hardcore players face is enemies dying before they get a chance to attack or (in the case of "elite enemies" and bosses) use their full moveset, then timer stalling mechanics aren't always the best solution — neither is only forcing higher HP, DEF or RES stats on everyone. Due to the large power discrepancy between F2P's who don't login almost every day and the whales who do, I think extra difficulty options that only increase rewards by a small amount (if at all) should be a staple — particularly for accounts at AR 50+.

The Feast of the Departed Warriors event in 3.7 was a great example of this design philosophy.

  9. I like the wenut. It's the only enemy where I actually feel powerful lol. Took my c6 r5 ayaka freeze team in there didn't touch it until the part where you put it on the ground and it didn't get back up. I even got to use her c6 charge attack to keep it down. Never really get to do anything like that it was awesome.

  10. everyone complains about the consecrated beasts so surprised it aint here, also i geuss lawachurls to an extent. Also I think ASIMON is fine, tho he should have more attacks unique to him because he's just a giant version of the primal constructs all in one

  11. The main issue with Regisvines is that their gimmick (weak point) needs to be more dynamic (not stick to a certain area of the body for too long) and they need more HP. That would fix them tremendously.

  12. Nothing beats dendro slimes. These mf stay underground 99% of the time and block me from access the menu when I need it most and now I gotta spend time to look for it and wait a long ass time for it to emerge

  13. I mean…by now we should know that Hoyo hates there combat System in game. Thats why genshin has evolved into a mini game gacha. So of course they would only create enemies that you can't really fight. They really love those.

Just play cards and run around talking to random NPCs noone cares about. Thats fun.

And I love the Moment you get so pissed of by all those childish cringe Anime nerds.

    Meta this, Meta that…

Have you ever meta girl before?!

  14. i despise the hyposthesis. they always stall and make me wait (also mess up my burst rotations by becoming invulnerable). doesnt feel like a challenge, more like just waiting.

  15. I fully disagree with 9 of the segments. These enemies are stupid and annoying as hell – so what. It only becomes a crime when you have to fight them against a timer. But then why is my pet hate not on the list, the absolutely friggin worst time waster named Thunder Manifestation. The only complaint I fully agree with is Shouki No Kami – a total waste of what could have been the greatest FromSoft boss
edit: and it would be easy to fix: remove the green companion and the green target, and remove the "kill me" sequence, maybe remove the crystals altogether, or give them a different function

  16. The hypostasis are infinitely worse than the regisvines. Immune phases where your attacks don’t do any damage, clunky/messed up hitboxes, and overall a really boring fight. At least attacking the weak points of regisvines feel satisfying. Don’t know what’s satisfying about fighting a hypostasis.
