The USA has ordered Genshin Impact to CHANGE!

The FTC (United States regulatory organization) has made a settlement with Hoyoverse that includes requirement to have a direct purchase method for in game items, so I wanted to talk about that!

Also, I am not a lawyer, but I think I interpreted this correctly. Maybe this video will age poorly though lol.

  1. If they actually have to implement a way to purchase characters directly they could just do it at a completely unreasonable price point and still be technically compliant. Buying a 5* for the equivalent of 180 pulls is probably the best case scenario. Whatever price they choose will only serve to make the gacha look reasonable in comparison.

  2. It sounds alright, not really like something i'd ask to be changed but for some people, maybe. I just don't like that the US is targeting Hoyo specifically when they aren't even the worse company that have such practices, feels like the only reason they're doing it is because Hoyo is high profile and most likely because they're Chinese, it doesn't reflect well on the FTC in my opinion, if they tried to pass these laws for all games and not just Genshin, then i could i could agree.

  3. It's funny how games in the west have been exploiting "addictive spending" game design for the last 12 years, and nothing has been done in most countries. I guess there was that one time with loot boxes thanks to EA with Battlefront 2. The biggest offenders are EA, Activision, Microsoft, Sony, Valve, and I'm sure many more. But then one Chinese game gets popular and they demonize it. I guess it's easier to overlook certain things when the money goes back into your country🙄

  4. As long as the welkin moon does not change for the worse, i don't care. They will likely price a 4 star above the welkin moon price, so it won't change anything for me. If you buy primos in any way besides welkin moon, you are paying multiple times how much they're worth.

This might be a hottake, but genshin's system is not predatory unless you choose to buy at a 5x markup. I've played a much much greedier gacha. Genshin has no pvp, you can win with 4 star free characters only. If you spend money and get burnt, it's your own fault. If it's your addictive personality, it's still your fault, stop playing games that trigger your addiction. Genshin is not always begging you to spend money, it's there for those who want to spend. Understanding how the wishing system works is more important than how much you spend. I've been playing for 5 years, and if you buy the welkin moon, and save your primos, you can get the characters you want, and even weapons sometimes.

Greed is like fire, while small its warm and comfortable, but fire can eventually grow, destroying everything in its path. Tend to your flame, and keep it small.

  5. 5*
$100 Genesis crystal 1st time buy gets 12960 (12960 primos) 160 a wish = about 130 primos each dollar/ 60 (from Genesis crystal flat price). $100 Genesis crystal 2nd+ buy gets 8080 = 51 (rounded) primos each dollar.
    28800 = 180 wishes
    ~$221.54 (130 primos per dollar)
    ~$480 (60 primos per dollar)
    ~$560.71 (51 primos per dollar)
    4*
    A 4* weapon/character every 10 pull, 160 a wish, 1600 = 10 pull
    $12.31 (130 primos per dollar)
    $26.67 (60 primos per dollar)
    $31.37 (51 primos per dollar)

  6. As far as my experience goes with that kind of stuff, they end up adhering to the measures, but make practices even scummier almost if it's out of spite that the governemt or an institution made them change things lol.

Here in Brazil there's this consumer protection organ that prohibits "tied sales" such as in league of legends where they sell bundles of chromas, icons and loading screen borders, so they have to provide the option of buying each one of them separately to be able to operate here.

Turns out all they do is making the individual prices be so high that it's pretty much not worth buying just one for a price that could buy 2 and a half of the items in the bundle, so you end up buying the whole bundle anyways.

  7. I don't believe for one second that this will bring any meaningful change, than just "please click here if you're 18+" when accessing the store. The entire stunt is just one massive "china bad" statement.

If the FTC want me to believe this is pro consumer than they are going to have to ban EA and Blizzard too. Not just Chinese companies. Remove lootboxes entirely.

  8. Im 16 but istg if I have to show my ID to pull man… ridiculous. I get its to protect younger teens but I just hope you dont have to do that, and if you do its deleted from the system right away after confirmation that your account is 16 or over

  9. What I like point out to people is the in game rates are fake, they have been proven so. I know multiple people who have called them out on their pull returns and they have addressed it directly with Hoyo. They also never advertise the hidden 5 star rate up. There is one every banner, 7/10 people who lose their 50/50 don't just pull a DIluc unless its actually implemented that way. Things like this may have to be public knowledge rather than hidden rates.

  10. Hoyo will have to consider the, i dont want any of the on banner four stars, or they are all c6 in the pricing structure. Worst case scenario you lose every on banner four star and go to 180 wishes. That would be a 13 wish refund on banner give a 1 refund, off banner give 0.4 . In reality for a player with a larger account. It's normally more. But yeah if Hoyo price 5 stars at say $250. 125 wish plus the refunds can almost always garauntee. Unless you are exceptionally unlucky. No one would purchase them from in shop. It'd be cheaper to just wish and if the four star lineup has one you want. That's close to 3 copies (if the average is one every 60 wishes)

  11. This seems like a great change, but I do hope that it comes with like, compensation of sorts for those of us (Me) who HAVE spent money, and got objectively scammed in a world where I could've bought it outright

Especially if these changes are coming next patch, which is looking to be pretty dry for content anyway

  12. 3:04 tbh I dont think that can be a trusted statistic as many people enter fake ages, especially those under 18 to avoid certain problems and restrictions occuring with their account.

I can vouch for this 😂

  14. whatever thecase is, it’s not going to solve hoyo greed, they figure out new ways of screwing people or they’ll just pull out. however maybe I’m wrong, their global customers might become a lot more important to them, depending on what happens to their own economy
