The Problem With Resin In Genshin Impact

Despite energy mechanics being ubiquitous throughout the mobile/gacha gaming industry, the way Genshin Impact handles Resin has been the target of controversy ever since the game came out. Today we’ll be discussing the problems surrounding the Resin system.

  1. I only wish for them to uncap condensed resin. Though I guess that would mean everyone will just save their resin and grind for whatever drop they want on a Sunday

  2. What hurts is the waiting. This is my first gacha game, and I'm a GAMER. I'm not used to logging in a game being limited on time and then having to log out because I can't progress any further. I am used to logging in and playing for fun until I'm fulfilled, Genshin always leaves me filling unfulfilled. The resin limit should be raised or the accumulation should be faster. We should be awarded some for commission and why is there a weekly boss cap? I understand the "If you give access they will lose interest" but that is not the case with me. Im VERY invested in this game and would be even more if there were a resin system rework/buff. I also think the battle pass is too short. Other games I play have levels up to 200, we have what.. 22 days left and I already finished mine….ty 4 the video!

  3. I think they should completely get rid of the resin costs for domains. Also get rid of the restriction of fighting a boss for rewards once a week, allowing them to be farmable while still costing resin. It'll be a huge improvement with just that alone.

  4. I think they should increase the resin limit based on the added content that requires it, or at least 40 per mayor version, example increase to 210 for 4.0 and etc… So the overload decreases, or at least based on some progression

  5. The resin system is so bad that I actually have to entertain the thought of not wanting new characters due to raising and equipping them being too much of a pain.

Though honestly they need to overhaul how they treat artifact RNG. I've been playing since day 1 and DON'T HAVE SINGLE CHARACTER I'D CONSIDER COMPLETE.

I'm legit sitting on a stack of 150ish fragile resin thinking that my two options are settle for having shit artifacts or waste hours of my time and still have shit artifacts.

I understand their concern of needing to throttle progression a bit, but if it's to the point where players think even the idea of making progress is completely futile, they've fucked up.

I'm at the point where I'm considering just exclusively playing for the story and exploration and giving up on progression entirely.

  6. While my preferred gaming experience I doing dailies on two or three games and then having something like an open world rpg or a rouge like to grind for the rest of time and genshin fits this preference quite well I’d say bosses should be twenty resin and weekly ones should be forty, maybe increase the cap as well to 200, I think overall it’s as simply as making things more generous, also I think there should be a way to prioritize stats on artifacts, I got very very lucky with Alhaitham that his set is as good as it is this fast (and I already had mistsplitter)

  7. So one of the comments in the video was that if we could endlessly farm artifacts we'd lose enjoyability of the game the way it is now already makes in unenjoyable I spent 2 months of resin on sheer veridesent and I used to buy characters here and there but that made me quit Till nahida rerun I didn't touch or spend any money on the game that whole time

  8. I have a couple of thoughts and ideas that ive used in my surveys, more times than i can count.
First weekly bosses shouldnt cost any resin, we have so many and being able to only do them once a week for rewards that are terrible most of the time shouldnt cost us anything.
Second, world bosses should cost a lot less, 20 seems reasonable but id prefer less. It takes forever to level a character to 90 without pre-farming. Its even worse when a new character needs new items that take 3 days to respawn.
Third, artifact domains should be nothing with the rng of both getting sub stats and and main stats. Its crazy how many domains ive done to only have maybe 2 to 3 sets of ACTUALLY good sub stat rolls.
Fourth, ascension domains, this one is tough. I defintely want them to cost less but i have a hard time actually feeling like they shouldnt cost any. maybe just give us some more for the cost that it is, ya know? Getting to level 9 talents takes an outrageous amount of mats.
And lastly, ley lines, oof this one is hard, i am in an internal fight with myself on if they should be nothing or cost something. On one side they shouldnt cost any because everything else costs so much and a part of me thinks they should cost very little, a least for how much we get. Its a tough one tbh.

I cant agree more with you with how backwards genshin is at leveling characters, its crazy. But knowing that us hardcore gamers, who have been playing this game from the beginning wont ever get anything satisfying for endgame. It really hurts and in my opinion, its a loss for them. they could have even more people consistently playing/spending on this game if they catered just a little bit for those of us who have been here since the beginning. But adding an endgame loop for us endgame players is another topic for another day.

  9. Hear me out, what if they released new event like no resin for a week so they can farm endlessly ( whether artifact or boss material) but only for a limited time so this can at least keep the players frustration from waiting for resin refill?

  10. I have over 100 fragile resins from all the battle passes and events. I already have amazing artifacts and I’m already unstoppable, so the game isn’t a challenge anymore. I have to purposely hamstring my gameplay to enjoy a challenge. Can’t imagine any OGs who still use their resin every day. Mine almost always sticks at 160/160 🤷‍♂️

  11. i only half agree for a game to be 100% accessible so people could enjoy it for as long as it's fun
issue is i don't play minecraft or any other fun and amazing games, my friend is playing MapleStory for years and there are people who play League or Minecraft or any other replayable game for years
i am not one of those people and most people are the same as me
i like playing genshin or dota(basically the same as League) because of the occasional/consistent content and in the downtime of that content not feeling the pressure to spend more than 10 minutes a day is fantastic with the majority of the game being unlocked at any point in time(which is story and exploration or whatever other niches the game offers)
i assume diablo 4 with its live service will function the same

my only gripe related to resin is not even the stamina system's fault it's the RNG in the artifacts, with close to 800 days of playing the game i only have 2 artifacts above 43 CV and mind you i use my resin mostly for artifact hunting nothing else i have enough materials for everything else

  12. let us set the 4 Sub stats on Artifacts. and the problem would be not halve as bad. if we Only would get Main stats and would need Artifacts of the same rarity wo re roll a sub stat, so that we could get a perfect one in some time. or let us make some items that needs like 50 Artifacts and the we can set one or tow sub stats for an artifact of our chose.
also get rid of hig and low rolls. i don't think its to bad with char lvl up and boss materials. the only problem i had was weekly boss materials when a new boss dropt and you alredy need the amterials from that boss…. that sucks…

  13. from what i see, its not the fault of the resin system itself. but rather the extremely stingy and inconsistent drop rates of bosses and domains and the RNG involved with the artifacts. reworking contents that needs resin certainly helps like for example making the weekly bosses runs and first 3 daily leyline/talent/weapon ascension domain runs free (with normal drops) so the rest of it can be spent on artifacts.

and since u also included epic seven in the footage, the artifacts should follow the example of E7, where the 5* rarity artifact should always start with 4 line substats, 4* starting with 3 and so on. that effectively eliminates 1 layer of RNG.

  14. I’d say I want more stuff to do but honestly, I just want a skip dialogue button lmao like please I know the VAs worked hard but I legitimately don’t have time to sit through hours and hours of dialogue for 2 minutes of gameplay. It’s almost like Genshin forgot it’s a game and turned into a visual novel.

Frankly one of the biggest issues with games right now is that they're all trying to monopolize your time, which basically means that you don't have any time to play other games that you might want to play because you have to commit to one game and only that game due to a lack of free time. Resin also doesn't fix the problem of burnout because it actually pushes people away from the game rather than keeping them playing. I personally know someone who used to play Genshin Impact but stopped playing altogether because he wasn't getting anywhere with his artifacts progression despite that grind being mandatory if you want to have a semi-decent experience with the game at WLs 6-8, and the reason for that lack of progress is because of Resin. When you're only allowed to get artifacts 8 times per day without either spending Fragiles or spending money/Primogems, it doesn't exactly allow the player to progress their 4+ characters at the rate that the game expects them to in order to keep pace with the WLs, which they have no control over. Combine all of this with the fact that he was accustomed to other RPGs where any grinding, mandatory or otherwise, was simply a function of being allowed to do it at the pace that you were comfortable with, and he just got pissed off and stopped playing the game. That friend of mine has yet to return to playing the game regularly, if at all.

I also don't think it's true that not having Resin would disproportionately have a negative effect on players who don't have the same kind of time to play the game as people like me. In fact, you could keep everything about the progression exactly as it is right now, including how many talent books and other resources are needed to progress your characters, only making minor tweaks to it like allowing weekly bosses to be infinitely farmable (fixes the endgame talents, dream solvents and billets issues) and allowing players to reset the entire world state by save-quitting (except in co-op) to respawn all the enemies and resources and removing Resin completely would substantially improve the experience for everyone, including casual players. Maybe it's just me, but don't you think it's contradictory to say that you need to coerce casual players into spending a timed resource every day in order to progress in order to ensure that they can make progress? That hardly sounds like Resin is intended to ensure that they progress because they don't have enough time to play. You're basically forcing them to spend 30+ minutes of their one or two hours that they have to play each day in order to be able to progress, which means that they have less time to dedicate to other more important activities like story and exploration. If Resin didn't exist, casual players or hardcore players who don't have an infinite amount of time to play every day would be able to progress at their own pace and make meaningful progress whenever they want to, which gives them the freedom to do other activities that they'd rather be doing. Put simply, removing Resin outright and tweaking a couple specific things would be a substantial improvement to the experience for everyone involved, not just the hardcore players. The current system punishes the people who have a lot of time to play the game by forcing them to stop playing the game and it simultaneously punishes the people who don't have that kind of time by forcing them to spend a significant amount of their limited free time on certain activities every day. It's a lose-lose situation that nobody benefits from. The idea that somehow Resin exists in order to ensure that casual players can make at least some meaningful progress on their characters is nonsense. it's nothing more than cognitive dissonance, it just doesn't fit with the facts.

Another thing worth mentioning is that if I was allowed to infinitely farm for everything I need, I would have been done with Collei's talents and artifacts by now on my alt, which is what I want because I want to focus on progressing my other characters that are in my secondary team. Instead I can't focus on the other characters because I can only get the things I need a certain amount of times per day, and only on specific days of the week at that in the case of talent books and weapon materials, which means that I have to spend like, two or more months finishing Collei (and Barbara) before I can focus on anyone else. It's stupid design that runs contrary to not only everything you've said, but the game itself. I'm being punished for doing exactly what the game requires me to do because the developers want to stall for their meager content updates. These kinds of problems wouldn't exist if Resin didn't exist.

if I may, I would like to present a very radical idea. If we exclude the angle that Resin only exists to try and force players to spend money on the game so that way they can progress at an objectively more reasonable pace that actually matches the progression of the WLs for the sake of discussion, then I believe Resin to be a catastrophic failure of a system that is both outdated and doesn't manage to achieve any of its goals other than making the game irritating to play for every player by transforming the game from something that at least reasonably mimics a real video game into just another form of monotonous work that nobody likes doing. Sure, I suppose it creates addiction, but it does that in the cheapest and most dishonest way possible and it does so at the exclusive detriment of the entire gameplay experience. Diablo 3 is also a very addicting game with a similar style of progression (random loot drops), but it doesn't use FOMO to make the experience addicting and it doesn't use the "They need to make money somehow" claim as a copout excuse. Diablo 3 is addicting because of the core gameplay loop of killing monsters to become more powerful until you become an unstoppable, overpowered badass that can mow down demons on Torment XVI like they're nothing. It uses a high quality, well-designed gameplay experience that players will want to come back to time and time again, rather than a timed currency to force people to keep playing.

Resin serves no purpose other than to manipulate the player into getting addicted by forcing them to play the game for far longer than they would normally have to because without it, no one would actually willingly play Genshin Impact for a sustained period of time because it's a terrible game with no redeeming qualities except in the four areas that ought to be secondary to the gameplay in all video games (story, characters, music and art direction) because Genshin Impact is, to put it very simply, not a good game. I mean, seriously, who in their right mind (except for normies and tourists with no taste and no standards) would willingly keep playing a game with clunky movement mechanics, badly paced exploration, questionable level design, terrible quality of life, terrible enemy design, terrible encounter design, terrible balancing, a badly designed combat system that runs contrary to the enemy design and a perpetually incomplete experience if they didn't feel like they were forced to play? I guarantee you that if Genshin Impact were to suddenly remove Resin tomorrow, most people would stop playing it in a couple of months at the most because without that manipulated sense of obligation to play for fear of missing out on their precious timed currency (as opposed to earning the player's sense of obligation and desire to keep playing in a legitimate way), most people would see the game for what it really is: a lazy, half-assed mobile game with very few, if any redeeming qualities masquerading as a high quality console/PC game. When you break it all down, what Resin really is is a copout excuse the developers can use to avoid having to actually make a good game that will keep players happy. After all, why would you need to make a good game that people will actually want to play voluntarily when you can use manipulative tactics to get players addicted to your game when you haven't even bothered to do the bare minimum to provide your players with a solid experience? This is made even more apparent when you realize that Hoyoverse poached the money of Genshin Impact players in order to fund and finally start supporting Honkai: Star Rail, which is a game that most Genshin Impact players don't care about and clearly did not want their money to go to.

Hoyoverse's entire business model is scrimping on the quality of their games as much as possible by intentionally not doing the bare minimum and using manipulative tactics to force people to keep playing them despite not putting in the time, money and effort that would normally be required to achieve good player retention in an actual video game. It's a scummy business model and it deserves to be demonized. Genshin Impact players should be mad that their money is going to some other game that they probably don't care about instead of Genshin Impact itself. Sure, Genshin Impact has made marginal improvements since it's release, but it still has yet to achieve what I would consider to be the bare minimum for a decent, fleshed out experience. When it takes two years for them to add more artifacts to the Strongbox, and they don't even bother to add the Inazuma and Chasm artifacts to it when Inazuma and The Chasm are both finished and will not be getting more sets added to their respective regions, I think that should be your dead giveaway sign that Genshin Impact will never meaningfully improve and will never become a good game. Genshin Impact is an intentionally bad game because that's more profitable in the eyes of the company that made it.

  16. If the resin system wasn't there I'd have been bored of the game so badly that I would actually quit. If you've ever used cheat codes in game and played it with everything unlocked. All you can do is look at everything you have once you've exhausted all different combinations you can try out. But I do believe you're right about this topic.

  17. I think there needs to be some form of pity/epitomized path for artifact main stats. Say if you don't get a main stat of the piece you want within 50-80 5* drops, you are guaranteed at least one. That still allows for substat progression, but at least you feel like there's a chance.

Meanwhile other gachas like FGO: 😶

And then when you get all the materials that took weeks worth of resin you still have to pay mora to do any upgrades😂 literally bro you can spend ur weeks and months worth of resin and you still will end up with nothing bc you need mora to even do any upgrades no matter what it is. There’s is no game where a player should be all out of every material in the game and at the same time have no way of getting any more without having to wait days for more. You can be all out of resin, mora, talent books, talent materials, and there’s nothing you can do about it without waiting days to replenish

  20. to me, resin/stamina/energy system is there as an enforced life-game balance.
If not, people who are too addicted will play non-stop neglecting their life responsibilities.
We already can see that with games that can be technically endless like F2P MOBA/FPS PvP games.
That being said, you can also argue that it's not the game's fault and the onus is on the individual to settle their own issues and balance their own life.
You will notice that stamina systems are mainly in gacha mobile games.
This is because games on mobile are much easier to play in more scenarios of life being so portable. Being mostly gacha games as well, let's face it, gacha players are more likely to be addicted to gaming as we are always going for that dopamine release.
I am quite grateful actually for stamina system because it reduces pressure on me knowing i can still be a functional working individual without stressing on my game progression during work.
Sorry for being contrarian, but just being a realist.

I would increase the resin cap enough so it take it 36 hours to full, and I would create materials that can let you change stats "big pearl" to change main stat and "little pearl" to change substat, you will still need to farm artifacts but you at least would have an option to farm if you are very unlucky

I.e. you don't just say monetized system is bad, you ask why is this system here and what could reasonably be changed to make it better, without calling in to question whether the system should it should not exist. Your channel is a great example of critical and analytical thinking and i appreciate you for that.

  24. Genshin's problem is the reliance on RNG. The game being PVE makes it less worse, but the feeling that luck matters more than cleverness is pretty unpleasant.
