Over the past year of doing account reviews I have located the biggest problem when it comes to people running into problems. In this video I will outline the problem as well as propose the solution.

This talk of vertical progression is good and all, but as far as 5 stars go, Hoyoverse is constantly finding ways to reducing the same characters all the time, so new characters are still important.
The first mistake of account building is to create an account for this game
I started in "2020 september" and I would, any day, choose a new 5 star instead of constelations, I don't even have the characters I like the most… it's not easy to get primogems, even playing since launch
My approach for the game is to have 1 main dps for every element and on phy atk. I still lack cryo, dendro, geo. hydro main dps. Then also focus on supports. You would only really use 8 characters abyss-wise. 2 main dps then 6 supports. Once you have your supports built you can just switch the main dps depending on the content you are facing.
I am that type of "casual meta slave".
I play since November (on my actual acc, on the first one I've made many newbie mistakes and I decided to reroll) and I buy every month BP and WM.
I have c1 Hu Tao with Homa, I have c2 Raiden, c1 Kazuha, c0 Qiqi, c2 Jean, c2 Diluc, c1 Mona, c0 Childe, c0 Zhongli, c0 Ganyu with Amos and c0 Albedo.
Ik, I am extremely lucky with my pulls and artifact rolls, all of those are extremely well-built, but out of boredom I have also fully built almost all 4* (excluding Thoma, Yun Jin, Lisa, Amber and Sayu).
I can already beat everything in Genshin, but building "non-meta" chars and playing with them gave me lot of fun and till this day I wasn't even touched by "burning out" with Genshin.
Just need to note that I play the game from 30mins daily till 2hrs at maximum when new patch drops.
You want to go vertical until you can clear abyss. Then… it does not matter. As someone who has been playing since 1.0, I get bored so I switch characters around. My account looks pretty flat. Otherwise I would not know what to do with the resources I collect.
Now I have only a good team(Ganyu-Bennett-XL-Diona) what you suggest to pull for ?
I consider the most optimal way to building your account is to alternate between vertical and horizontal Progression(very much akin to you what you should do for muscle growth in the gym funnily enough):
1. Inform yourself and build up 2 separate teams for the abyss(horizontal and vertical progression)
2. Build up 2-3 additional support characters to add some flexibility to your raster and to better be futureproof(horizontal progression)
3. Look which characters have c1 or c2 Constellations of the ones you already own that are worth going for and focus on them when they have their reruns(vertical progression)
4. Add more 5 characters to your raster that you know have a good c1 or c2 and at least get their c0 when they release(horizontal progression)
Then you basically rinse and repeat Step 3 and 4 over and over
I would also like to point out that in terms of resin you should focus on characters Talents, Level, and weapon Level first then focus on artifacts second as a general rule.
If I dont have any additional resin i typically spent 80 a day on artifact domains(vertical progression) and the other 80 on building up characters/talents/weapons(horizontal or vertical progression) and it works really well for me
I really want xiao and kazuha, maybe even Venti if I get lucky and pull him. But apart from that, I’m planning to go vertical, get Hu Tao c1 and staff of Homa, and Amos bow for Ganyu when they come around.
This is a great video!! I always question if I’m spending too much time building the same characters (vertical focused)
kind of disagree with the constellations>newer characters discussion you had, somewhat. I think if it's a 5 star support unit, then I'd say it's better than constellations on units. While I adore Klee, I skipped her since I had Diluc and hu tao c1, homa. I skipped Childe, Itto, and Xiao, since I had the likes of Ganyu, ayaka, eula, raiden etc built and the likes of Childe, Xiao, Itto, Klee for example don't bring anything to my account. Units like Shenhe, kokomi, kazuha etc would bring value to my account.
As a BP, Welkin, unit first/only whale. The Biggest Thing I've done for my account once I knew that I could farm it, was Artifact farming in the open world. This game is VERY stingy on resources but if you max artifact farm every day in Liyue and then once Inazuma opened up you can use that artifact fodder to level artifacts or sell for something like 50,000 mora as well per day.
Sekapoke put out 15-minute route to shorten the time to artifact farming in the open world with both Liyue and Inazuma's best spots. But I've built two routes so that because the artifact respawn is on 24hr cool down I never have a day where I'm not farming them out. A lot of the grind in Genshin is copium rolling on the artifact to see IF you have substrates you want to fully roll one. So a lot of this artifact fodder is going into rolling to lv4 an artifact. it makes a huge difference in getting artifact sets built for your units.
If you're FTP THIS is something you NEED to do to build up the limited units you have. 😉 and if you're a "small" whale buying units you ALSO need to do this have you NEED the recourses. The leviathan whales can buy out resin to compensate… but regular whales SHOULD NOT be wasting money on resin refills…
Im a new player (2 months in, Welking BP) and i essentially only have Raiden and Zhongli (and a few 50/50 losses xD) and even i am thinking about Constellations.
I chased Raiden and i definitely wont go for EL or C2 for now, but in 6-7 months if there's a rerun i may consider them.
My goal for the short term is getting 2-3 solid DPS units and invest on supports and SubDPS; i have Raiden and my only other real DPS is Yanfei, so i'll probably look for Ayato or some other strong versatile main DPS to build a team around, and meanwhile im working on my Xingqiu and Xiangling and im looking for generic powerful supports. Got Zhongli, now im aiming for Kazuha.
I can easily see myself in 8-9 months getting C1-C2 kazuha or C2 Raiden or a 5* weapon over the 7th 5*, and honestly i fing extremele vertical or horizontal progression kinda dumb xD
I already have two of my main characters to 90 level and weapons and artifacts are plus 20. Now I'm trying to max Yae and Albedo.
last month i was laughing at lost ark being the genshin killer now i have under estimated lost ark lol
I don't necessarily disagree here Walrus, but keep in mind that currently the only benefit of having that "vertically" scaled account is having an easier time clearing floor 12. Is 100 extra primogems a month worth that? I'd say no. It's more the satisfaction of being able to beat the current content than anything else.
Only cons i went for were Raiden C3 and Shenhe C1
I have this dilemma to diversify since my current teams are stuck on 33 stars in abyss.
lol this video
Wait, you’re telling me simping for Raiden Shogun isn’t healthy? idk man, I’m f2p and I’m super close to C6 Raiden R1 EL and I don’t regret it at all. I’m playing for fun and Raiden does everything perfect for me! I did sacrifice every other Inazuma character to get her that far, but I don’t regret it at all
I dont know man. What do you do with all the shiny chars with maxed talents when theres literally nothing to do in the game with them? Ive built Eula, Raiden, Xiao and Itto and when doing overworld stuff its not even worth usings bursts cuz everything dies in one or two attacks. Imho genshin is dead already cuz at some point it has nothing to offer. Maybe itll be worth playing the new regions when and if they come out (who knows if the game will live to see the reunion of the siblings), but other than that its just a bunch of daily chores which are in the words of Xiao: "Boring! Worthless!"
I started playing Genshin back in October 2020. My goal was to pull for the characters that I want and build everyone. I had teams that didn't make sense but I made it work because I wanted to collect their name cards. I am now in AR58, I only have like 3 characters left to build (Sara, Aloy and Yunjin).
My whole journey when it comes to building my characters was tiresome and challenging, it felt like I was always chasing something – this burned me out. But I guess me pushing myself back then was actually a blessing because I get to rotate characters based on who I want to play right now. And I don't have a hard time clearing content because I have them decently built.
i personally never farmed for artifacts after ive built raiden since the first raiden banner. id rather farm world bosses/mora/exp books/talent ascension mats (till 6/9/9 or 9/9/9 depending on the character). easy glads and wanderers artifacts (pulled ganyu cause i got too many good wanderers, shenhe cause got glads and shimenwa from farming for raiden). there will come a point where you can only upgrade your beloved character by spending money for weapon refinements or constellations (which small spenders or f2p will never do), or the other only option which are artifact domains which are pure rng. Now give me a good reason why i should waste resins on those when i can just slowly maxing out other characters in the long run
With BP+Welkin since day 1 im so stacked on resources right now its crazy, ive got 15 lvl90 characters and a dussin lvl70-80 – 170+ lvl20 artifacts and im just throwing resin at marginal upgrades at this point. Ive got around 15 milion mora at all times and around 1500 wits. This game becomes trivial after a year and a half of minimum spending and f2p isnt far off with smarter investments.
I do whatever i want but you should have two strong teams. You can farm all the mora/exp/books as much as you want and you should be but without at least bare min a good enough artifact set for each character you use there useless as in you don't throw a team of four into abyss with terrible rolled artifacts/weapons and expect them to 36 star a floor. There is a balance between levels talents weapons and artifacts. Meta be dammed I prioritize artifacts because they are the hardest to get mora/exp/books have no RNG attached to them other then resin and time artifacts take the longest and have 4 layers of RNG+resin. Weapons are hit or miss so you have to use whatever you have or gamble. I'm strictly talking about end game world level 3 and below does not matter as much at least for artifacts. For cons/weapons if i want them for my favorite characters I'll do it unless it comes down to i NEED this character or weapon and it makes a huge difference/improves my account then it's about fun for me.
At early game you need to invest in one good unit who’s gonna carry you from AR 1 to AR 40. From then you have to invest in multiple units and utilize reactions more
I'd say build a small core of characters that are going to carry you through content really well. After that start building your other characters slowly. It's much better to use 5k resin on building new character than wasting it trying to get better artefact for your main DPS and failing.
I'm missing only 5 characters in the game and I've managed to level every one of them to 80 at least and all talents to 6. There is more than enough resin if you don't waste too much on artefact grinding.
In the end you can move that one great Crimson Witch set between your pyro units.
Why should I get to level 90 and/or get constellations if I can easily get 36 stars at C0 every time? Yeah there's just no valid reason for it, it's just a waste of ressources.
Personally for me, I organically hit this point after about 300 days of playing, where I’m just not interested in the whole hamster wheel of raising new characters anymore. I’m much more inclined to get my folks their weapons and consts, than starting from scratch again with some new and unfamiliar unit. I can enjoy the new characters when my friends bring them to co-op, I don’t actually need to possess them. What I do need are optimal builds for my existing units, to make sure I use them to the max. I’ve been saying that “new characters > constellations” is not a universal truth for a while now. Always getting dislikes from people who have poor impulse control and can’t stand the thought of NOT wishing for a new shiny toy every 3 months or so. And then when I point out that their whole rainbow roster hits like wet noodles because they never have enough resin to farm good artifacts, they get mad.
get off the internet clown, its bed time
yo could you please give us the source for your outro music?
outro song name plz
I pretty much had all the characters (I like) built, if not, near max at this point given that I played since launch. But still, during the early days, I made sure to min max the teams I'm using for abyss. And right now, I'm just building characters to kill time since it's the only thing left I find enjoyable beside the storyline.
Wrong.
Having all the characters means you don't have to worry about limitations. You have more options than people with less characters and weapons than you. Having their signature weapon is even bettter. A collector always win.
My Kagura's Variety, I can choose to give it to my other characters if I need to. I can give it to Klee and Lisa.
Polar Star? I can give it to my Amber, Childe, Ganyu and Yoimiya if I want to.
Sure 5 star weapons are just weapons but having options is still there.
That's the difference between a whale collector and a F2P.
Let's all agree dumb whales are the ones who spend 1000 dollars on resin refresh for artifacts. That's a stupid way to spend money in a gacha game. Better to use that money to collect characters, their constellations and weapons than artifacts LAMAO.
FYI I have all the characters too. Having every single character means more content to play in Genshin. Taking my time to build them. The fun will never end for me at least. I haven't even build all of my characters yet. I haven't build my Chongyun nor touch him since 1.0 but when Shenhe released. I started to build him up and now I have the option to use him with his Auntie.
Its the same thing with Yelan coming out soon. When she's out. I'm taking Xingqiu out of the basement and build him up too.
Now I have something to look forward to. When Yaoyao is coming out, I'm going to build my Xiangling and Ningguang.
I have tons of content that will keep me occupied in Genshin and its why I never got burnt out from playing genshin. That and I have other games to keep me occupied after I do my dailies.
