1:12 wtf are you saying
Hoyo will win in law court thousands times over. These people are just wasting their time. Aventurine, the guy who started the petition, is not even a genshin impact gamer. He's just an activist grabbing opportunity in the drama.
People who don't care about representation or are out and out bigoted never get tired of being bigoted and promoting their "no one cares" mentality, that's why there seems to be a "shift" lol. There are just as many people pretending their support of Hoyo's colorism matters more than other people's problem with it as there were during Sumeru. They're just more vocal now because they have their echo chambers of other people saying "oh I'm Latina and I don't care" "oh I'm African and I' don't care". Okay cool dude, if you don't care about being positively represented in a video game then go sit in your corner and enjoy your Eremite representation lol.
The whole "no one in China/the East/etc. cares about this" argument has already been debunked, so I won't go into that.
There's also the fact that boycotts are not always a combination of things. Sometimes it's not using a service at all, sometimes it's not spending money at a place, sometimes it's even badmouthing them to prevent other people from getting involved in spending money or resources. For Genshin, spending money matters more than not playing. Hoyoverse doesn't care how many people play, they care how much is spent. If only 20 people are playing Genshin impact in 2026, but they all whale for hundreds of thousands of dollars on artifacts and characters and weapons, I promise you Hoyoverse will not even think about shutting down the servers or begging other people to come back. So a boycott that focuses on not spending money is the most effective measure.
And the real determination of whether people are serious about that will come when Natlan actually releases–most people have already made their plans by now on whether they were spending for the 4.8 characters. If 5.0 hits and there's record sales, then yeah, there were some people that weren't serious about the boycott.
Okay, best selling skins because they are black ? Nah, most of them gonna only care about the VFX, or is that champion strong or not, for example Samira is popular in VN not because she is black but because CN lol players like to 1v5 with her. Moreover, those skin up there is like best skins for that champs.
Tbh, i idc about the skin tones, but if you're going to make the edit of the character to a darker tone, PLEASE DONT MAKR THE COLOR BLACK(THIS BLACK⚫️)
Those signatures are really useless as fk
Paikon wtf happened with your hair 💀
Anyway, great explanation! Truly appreciate you doing this
It’s not just how they look, it’s the fact that Hoyo decided to use names of both deities and historical figures on characters that happen to look nothing like said deities and figures.
I feel like rather than boycotting the game they just unintentionally creating more free advertisement to the game itself
I get about wanting more representation, but honestly I just couldn't give af at this point, the company is never going to listen and they'll keep the changes limited to the Chinese player base.
Feel like Paikkon is doing the intro under gun point, LOL
Honestly, if this was a mainstream live action show or movie based on real life events, I would understand all the boycotting. A live action is played by real people and one based on true events not showing proper reperesentation could be icky.
But Genshin has a completely different reality. Even if it is inspired by some cultures, its entirely a different world altogether. Its literally not meant to represent anyone real. There are no Asians, Americans, Indians etc in Genshin. In real life certain names, colors, cultures have meanings that Genshin's world doesn't have at all, even if they have similar names or places that look similar. Inspiration does not equal representation. Hoyo has many faults but as creators of art they have every right to creative liberty. As all artists do. That's kind of the point of fiction in the first place, isn't it? Being awed and inspired from the real world and making your own little reality with a wonderful story to tell. No wonder so many of us fell in love with Teyvat.
Racism and proper representation in media are complex real life issues that isn't going to be solved by boycotting a gacha game. I honestly wish people had the same energy in boycotting real life racist organizations. But as a POC, my worth doesn't hinge on being represented in an isekai. Others may agree or disagree but I'll always be against boycotting creative liberty.
For those who signed the petition, I'm sure their hearts are in the right place, but they're barking up the wrong tree here.
I see alot of people say people don't care, but people don't even know it's happening. So many genshin players are casual to the point they dont even know genshin content creaters exist, have never looked at a guide, or hardly on twitter. It's near impossible to reach everyone properly.
"Sir they managed to have 100.000 people boycotting"
"Did they stop playing and spending money?
"No sir"
"Ok, carry on as usual then"
im here because i love drama 🙂 post more thnx
bros haircut is cooked
They already earned more than millions for each banners so boycotting literally does nothing to their revenue.
even if it reached 200k signature thats still below 1% of its community🤦
Eh ill just wait till modders make the characters look the way i want hoyo will never.
This is just my opinion.
Its good if they can put some representation but there is a big problem that you have to remember. Hyv is very passionate about releasing games. You can see it with the quality, story, VAs and characters. They put in a lot of detail with their games and this is not only limited to Genshin. But you have to remember that they are not doing this just for the cause of releasing a good game. Its also for the money. The main reason as to why the games they have been releasing have been improving is because they can see the result if they do. The quality attracts players, and in turn gives them the money they worked for.
With this in mind, you have to remember there are two things they need to continue being popular and relevant. One is the revenue, and two is the players.
Lets start with revenue. In July 2024, a total of $19M was made in China alone. Yes, this is lower than usual but this is also during Sigewinne patch and reruns so its not surprising that they made lower revenue than in June. For Global revenue, it was $17M. Though its only a few million behind, China is still ahead as usual than Global revenue. The difference is much more apparent on patches like Arle's or Neuvi's for example. This alone gives you enough information that China players gives higher revenue than Global players. It is no wonder Chinese players are very valued by HyV. Not only because they are also from China, but also because they are the ones who produces the most revenue.
Next is playerbase. They are a game's health. The most vital part of a game. They are what makes a game popular, relevant and more. The more active players there is, the better the reputation and relevance of a game. Based on the statistics I saw, you can search it online, the top 5 countries that has the most players in Genshin are Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Russia and Taiwan (if i remember it right). Just this top 5 alone shows that majority of players are from the east, more specifically Asia. Im from Asia so I know how people here prefer lightskinned people than darkerskinned people. It sounds racists, I know but lightskinned is more preferred because it represents cleanliness.
Just this information alone, you can easily think that if your in HyV position, which characters will pull in more money? Of course characters that are designed based on what majority of players like and what the players that pulls the most revenue like. It is no wonder why they designed more characters that are lightskinned. Seeing that HyV still puts in characters that are darkskinned (not really) shows that they know the concerns of players thats why they added more. But as you can see they still prioritized what the 'main' players want. What if they made it more darkskinned and in turn the 'main' players didn't liked it so it affected them?
This basically shows or Genshin is saying, they would rather offend the minority of players than what majority wants because they are more important.
i honestly think that the people making the boycott dont actually care about cultural appropriation and just want compensation, and im also sure that the Chinese players dont care and if the chinese players dont care then hoyo doesnt either, its a chinese game that has global players
Okay, serious comment on their "Representation matters" thing. Because first and foremost, Hoyo didn't even represent their own culture mythical beasts "correctly", take a look at Ganyu and Yanfei, and try to find what Qilin & Xiezhi looks like, you will find one is a mix between a Chinese dragon, a horse & a deer with a pair of antlers, scaly skin and flaming hooves; and the other one is a mix between an ox, a lion, and a Chinese dragon with a single or a pair of horns and covered in fur. You can guess which one is which, and why fictional characters doesn't need to accurately represent real life.
Also, why no one talks about the whole Christian religion is being twisted in game, and why people worshiping demons? If their aim is a correct representation of "real life".
Honestly I don't think hoyo is going to anything unless the Chinese community speaks up (which I highly doubt because I'm pretty sure they don't even know what's going on in the global community) but The Chinese community is obvi the favorite child of hoyo so they don't really care unless the Chinese community is upset
tbh their approach to boycott is not even boycotting properly that's the issue. Having people sign into an online petition won't help
can you sing for your next video?
The thing is, if they really want to commit in the cultural awareness, why not do that in real life? Are pixels more important than real humans?
Who else is here because Tectone is taking a break and can't cover the drama so we have to settle with small creators like this guy until big bad Baldemort comes back 😂
There isn't Twitter in China, me thinks. So no one really cares over there? Another thing, uhm, fictional characters in a fictional area that won't even exist UNTIL 5.0. Another, uhm, have they ever traveled? Because honestly, based on my travels, no one area looks how you'd think it is. I mean, I see light-skinned people in Africa, and a lot of dark-skinned people in European places. That's because the world is a melting pot. NO ONE individual is entirely purely one color. So this debate is so idiotic. To those VAs yapping about it, please, just DO YOUR JOBS! sigh Biting the hand that feeds you will bite you back. Annoying. Can't we just play this game in peace?
The thing is just I personally don't like seeing internet drama videos so it showing up in my subscriptions channel is kind of irritating.
Im pretty sure ambassadors does not give a single f about some random chinese game
I never really cared for skin colours for characters. But when the PYRO archon who is fire herself is whiter than the white Egypt statue from that one game it’s kinda hhh, interesting
most of the twitter boycotting arent even hoyo games players.haha
Nice hair….🎉
Paikon nice cut
YES,AND?
The more I see twitter drama about genshin the more I'm convinced these people have no life…
Idk why they're using aventurine's name????? It looks so unserious
About 0.1% amount of genshin players signed the petition and in that 0.1% I am pretty sure 40-50% people dont even play the game..they are jusy on twitter to involve on anything that's trending to gain engagement and feel like they are contributing something to he world by doing that and the other 30-40% people didn't spend money on genshin..only the remaining 10% of that 0.1% playerbase of the petition may have spend some money on the game.. that's about 0.001% of playerbase and even they are still be playing the game even now.
This changes absolutely nothing..
Now it hypothetically in an alternate universe hoyoverse will change the skin colour to black..then what will happen is that
1.hoyoverse will recieve serious issues and allegations from the government since they changed the product after introducing in the market
2.Almost 90% of the china playerbase will protest against it and stop playing and spending money of the game(remember that china makes more than 60-70% of the total revenue, the rest of the revenue comes from all around the world)
So the overall conclusion is why tf wpuld china goverment or hoyoverse would listen to those petitions which don't even mater much..
The players who spend money dont even care about skin colour..if that were true they would have stopped playing since sumeru..
If anyone really want to boycott, then start deleting your genshin accounts.
Otherwise just give up..the world doesnt reveolve around you.
video being 9:11 long
The fact that the petition reached 100k because some people start cyber bullying and hating on content creators/voice actors and calling them racists just bcoz they didnt post anything about it.. because of that content cretaors and voice actors posted about this even if they dont really care about the skin colour..and the fans start signing the petitions just bcoz their favourite cc/va tweeted about it..
Personally, i just don’t want them to use any culture other than East Asian and European because they already went wrong with Sumeru, there are racism tones from mc and paimon even after the archon quest. It’s just unpleasant to play whenever the MC criticizes brown NPCs for their behavior/style but then praises Fontaine in the same sentence. You get what I mean? I play to escape reality not to experience real life racism 101. It’s so much easier, they could’ve created a whole region based on Greek gods or something. Or if they created the region based on Vikings
Tbh I'm more concerned about the voice actors being replaced with AI. While I belive representation is important in video games I'd much rather be concerned and support real people's job's. I do agree with every point in this video but considering there is a bigger issue right now I'm not surprised people aren't paying as much attention to this anymore
i am all for more skin tone representation and quite honestly, i do find it a bit sad and scummy that there is so little variety of it. that being said the boycott isn't working and they're not trying to make it work effectively. and thats the problem, aside from also attacking people who just want to play the game
Tbh I have a feeling that it is an extortion attempt by DEI consultancy companies. Just like Sweet Baby inc tried to extort money from Black Myth Wukong. It's just my hunch though. Nevertheless I'm not offended by the designs of Natlan characters. They look fine for me. As since it's a fantasy game treat it as a fantasy game. If one of you guys offended by this just don't play the game.
The thing I dont get is why continue to boycott when you can just stop playing the game, Continue to complain won't do sh*t because Hoyoverse in the end is a Chinese company.
