Sumeru may be here but let’s rank all the Genshin Impact versions that came before it. I wanted to do this BEFORE Sumeru but I got sick so better late than never.

Steak is overrated.
"You just haven't had GOOD steak like mine" – Every person who doesn't agree with this statement
2.6 gets knocked down to a low B for me simply because of that shitty delay
I was reall disapointed at 2.8 bc its like after all that stuff that happend 1.6 was just like a break and also like a teaser for inazhuma but i think 2.8 had too much sad storys and stuff u spjust cant careabout also i kinda hated it that they focused soo much on kazuha and i think that he didnt really needed more sad backstorys also a a kazuha lover i just wanted to see klee again and the old gaa and just happy holiday vibes
My thoughts:
Diluc combat event needed polish. It is an event that would have worked better in the standard domain circle, rather than out in the real world in an area that isn't really designed to be a circular combat arena. Or else the barrier just needed to go. The worst part, though, was the initial part of the fight, the whole Do X a certain number of times. If you swirled multiple enemies, it counted as a single swirl, rather than counting each separate target you swirled separately. And that made the whole thing stupid, as you had to work around ICDs, gauges, and avoiding hitting as many targets as possible for those reasons.
Theater Mechanicus gets worse with every iteration. The latest was particularly bad, relying on RNG mechanics over strategy. That's not what a tower defense game is. Leave that for the rogue-like domain event, where it belongs.
Drum mini-game was the worst music mini-game yet, primarily due to the UI, which shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how human vision works, or else a dev team that doesn't care enough about their game to give it a proper one. That type of UI works fine for a small screen, like a phone, but the PC version needs a UI designed for a much larger screen. There's a reason games like Rock Band and Guitar hero have all the notes in a relatively small area of the screen. Mostly, though, Genshin needs to lay off the music events. That's not what the game is about, and when I want to play a music type game, that's exactly what I'll play… a game that is focused on doing that, and does it right.
Windtrace is the one event I do not participate in. Don't like versus style game play, for the most part, and I also feel it wouldn't be fair to other players if I just joined and AFK'd. So any patch with that garbage would be a patch I'd rate pretty low.
And yeah, 2.8 was pretty meh. It was just boring. So much yapping, but it was dry. I didn't care for Mona's story. I liked Xinyan better before they developed her more. Half of Mona's puzzles involved making it hard to see to base pattern. If Kazuha wants to travel, well, he's welcome to go travel somewhere the Traveler isn't, so we don't have to put up with more of his family history. Also, it felt weird to me that each of characters that traveled together got their own bit of story, except for one. The Traveler was completely left out. Party of five, and only four got effected, yet the event talks it up all the time about how everyone is getting a turn, without ever touching on one of the party not getting a turn. It's almost like they know they're NPCs, while the MC is there to be a projection for the player, not someone with their own past and personality. About the only part of it I really liked, story-wise, was the talking boat.
I dont know why everyone hated 2.8, imo it was one of the better patches.
Not only in terms of character stories, but also exploration of revamped islands, and very cool puzzles.
Only bad thing about it were the boring raven statue theaters.
Yeaaah I loved 2.8 sooo Ratio
2.8 GAA could have been so fucking good if they dialed it back a bit on the stupid puzzles and just let the event feel a bit more cohesive
“Unless you play lumine, which means there was a dumpster in the room”
Damn man you didn’t have to go for the jugular on them
Why diss Lumine like that? If you saw it you saw it.
My guy commented about the reputation system without mentioning the condensed resin recipe💀
Jumping from monster hunter music to terraria music was a whiplash I wasn’t ready for, I love it
Yes the unconcealed stars was resin efficient, and you got pretty much the rewards for a month of resin in a week
Started at the beginning of 2.6. Yeah, 3.0 blows everything out of the water
Inazuma update was literally the worst in every single aspect: story, banner units, and exploration.
The fact that you put the patch that gave us HANGOUTS in D tier is so D-umb lol
Ratheil i love your videos!
Just thinking about 2.8 and the long, unskippable theater quest line makes me groan, definitely deserves F
2.3 has the best story event how come its on c tier instead of s?? Its like somebody trying to cope albedo theme versions with zongli themed version. Even though albedo's are clearly magnitudly better.
Mostly I agree I barely remember 1.0 since I joined like 2 days before 1.1 so yeah but I think besides maybe some going up or down one I agree
I would agree with the Chasm patch if the godforsaken Lumenstone automatically lit up the environment without having to be equipped.
It's not like there are enemies that require you to equip it aside from the boss there, anyway.
The second GAA was LOADS better than the first one. But I don’t really care about Klee so I think that’s why
I 100% disagree with most of these, but I really loved 1.6, by far my fav patch.
I 100% agree with 2.8. Worst event so far because they made us do absolute most to get not only the main story quest finished, but for extra rewards as well. Fishl’s donmain was mainly the hardest tho.
I would say a lot of this I agree with, though of course me being a different person with different opinions than you I of course disagree on some points, especially 2.8, but I can say that you are absolutely correct with how grindy and tedious those islands were. However in my opinion (which may be put through a nostalgia lense because og GAA) the islands being entirely different with different gameplay elements between each I really really appreciated, and me as a person would've hated if they just respawned all the chests on it and say "hey, you know how you spent like 2 weeks exploring this a year ago? have fun doing it all again except with no story element this time :)" It felt a lot more like a new experience the way they did it, I just wish it wasn't as grindy this time.
2.4,2.6, n 2.7 were def my favs
Suprised you didn’t cover the addition of Narukami no mikoto when you were covering 2.5. Also 2.4 giving us enkanomiya will always be S tier in my heart
While I do disagree with some of your opinions, I do agree that 2.8 is the worst update we've ever gotten. I loved the story with Mona, Kazuha, Xinyan, and Fischl but the domain puzzles and having to figure out how to correctly change some of the island configurations and every single puzzle having to do with Mona's area absolutely infuriated me. That patch was legitimately the most angry I've been and the least fun I've had ever playing Genshin. an absolute chore to get through
You should rank all version trailers
i half disagree with this tierlist, half agree, (mostly bc diff taste in events) but i wholeheartedly agree about 2.8. I honestly thought i was the only one who felt like it was a chore. Don’t get me wrong, kazuha is currently my favourite playable character, and mona, fischl and xinyan are some of my other faves, but after the main story, i just kinda stopped. I have that regret feeling of never being able to 100% every island (except xinyan’s cause hers was easy but also the most boring) cause it is limited and may never come back, but esp comparing it to the last GAA where it was just a chill family vacation between the knights of favonius, this was the opposite and while i did not start with burnout i realize i did get it by the end of the patch.
At the very least the last day i spent the entire afternoon doing the main side quests and as much as i could.
Quite ironic that 2.8 is my absolute favourite patch.
it was honestly amazing and, actually, it felt more rich with content than 3.0 for me. (3.0 is second place for me, too..) GAA just felt so complete, and it was an amazing experience. Granted I didn't do exploration to 100%, but I feel like if I did that I would never return to the game.
This is offline game 🎮
I started in 2.4 and so far 2.7 was my favorite until 3.0 came out. I hadn't so much fun with genshin in a while
I wish 2.8 had something like enkomomiya in which after you finished the story or something, they’d show you where all the chests were. I didn’t like having to look at video guides to try and get all the rewards.
i think i started somewhere in 2.3 and I'm still playing. i think my favourite one i have played though it would be 2.6 because i liked most of the mini games there.
As someone who does care about story, I can confirm that your ranking of 2.3 was way too low.
i really really wanted to love GAA 2. But I couldn't. It missed the summery refreshing note of the first one and just felt like a tedious job that I had to do for primos. it was beautiful but not fun. I procastinated till the last day and ended up not finishing it.
