Natlan's Tyrannical King – Unfinished Reverie (Genshin Impact Lore)

Long ago, Natlan was ruled by a tyrannical king who sought to wipe out the Saurians of the land. Fortunately, he would be stopped by a group of heroes from all around the nation. In this video, I go over the lore presented in the Unfinished Reverie artifact set and how these heroes won.

  1. i’m SO excited that we’re finally getting Natlan lore!! i’m really curious about what hoyo is cooking up for the nation… there HAS to be some explanation as to why we know so little about Natlan’s lore and why we never even see its people elsewhere in the game 🤔🤔

  2. I was trying to hold back my hype but after hoyolab's post earlier today saying that they will update the game's graphics in version 5.0

and now this video… man there are still around 100 days to go I can't get hyped now 😫

  3. as we already know with all this lore accumulated in these 4 years

the occurrences in Teyvat have a cyclical order of action, so it makes sense that there were two rebellions in Natlan where the 6 tribes came together

in the same way that Venti, Diluc and Jean basically re-enacted the revolution of old Mondstadt

the resurgence of forbidden knowledge in Sumeru

the prophecy of Remuria and Fontaine

the game has an extremely strong theme of cycles and duality

  5. The mare jivari would probably have a similar game mechanic as dragonspine but instead of sheer cold it would be extreme heat
And that extreme heat would probably be caused by a divine nail

  6. Great video and thanks for breaking down that really complex artifact set lore. I have a fascinating idea that just occurred to me: A common theme in Natlan will revolve around rebirth and reincarnation, and I think this "primal flame" you refer to could be the method of that– what if the people of Natlan don't leave because that would break their ability to reincarnate? It might also explain why they are more eager to go to war constantly; the concept of death works differently in Natlan. Just an interesting theory. Kinda Elden-Ring-like if you ask me!

  7. I was waiting for this! I can’t wait for Natlan and to learn about these heroes!

I thought I should let you know that Waskar is a translation of Huascar which is the name the Spanish gave to the Incan ruler Quechua. I hear that some Spanish names for mesoamerican historical figures are used but the think the English localization will do their best to pay respect the original indigenous names that characters are based on. Just so that people know the true story and not just the colonial version. I can’t wait!

  8. I think Natlan is going to both show us the past, and also in a way show us the future. I’m sure we’re going to learn more about the archon war and we’ll get some stuff on the “Natlantean” world cycle. Buuuuut,. It will also show us the possibility of a future where dragons/Vishaps live peacefully alongside humans and with respect towards one another. It could be playing the long game and show us the possibility the world COULD be if the systems installed by the Primordial One/ Celestia/ The Sustainer/ WHOEVER were removed and/or destroyed. We can’t go back to 0. That would create a world inhospitable to humans, then they all die. We also can’t just get rid of the Sovreigns and Vishap kind. They are the natives! And that would cause insane destruction and eventually they would just come back. So the only real hope for a “good” future is to remove the systems placed by the foreign power and teach humans and Vishaps to coexist while maintaining respect for the land and elements. Natlan will serve as proof of concept!

  9. By the way, all the names mentioned are a reference to historical personalities who actually existed in Pre-colonial Americas.

Sakkuk – (Ix Sak K'uk) Was a Mayan queen from the seventh century.

Yupanqi – An Inca ruler, responsible for most of the expansion of the Inca Empire.

Atawalpa and Waskar – (Atahualpa and Huascar) – Sons of Huyna Capac, who was the son of Yupanqi. The two brothers were at civil war when Pizarro and the Spanish arrived in South America.

  10. 9:56 I watched the video mentioned here because I started playing in 4.1 and that's definitely not Xbalanque, it's Dain talking about Neuvillette. Might be why you felt the way the man spoke of Neuvillette sounded different for a possible sovereign.

  11. nice video but i feel the time line is a bit off.
Offcourse since we do not know the exact time lines of a lot of things, it is still hard to pinpoint but IMO these events take place around archon war or right before it. Archon war was also a period where a lot of tyrannical rulers were ousted and archons established in their place. But i have a more rigorous calculation.

1- Nahida states that Deshred died much before archon war.
2- In perihnheri, the events start with crimson moon dynasty in power and by the end, Black Eclipse dynasty has taken over. Now, Angelica comes to take Perinheri away during the era of Black Eclipse dynasty..she says that she belongs to a kingdom of Liyue, her god has been killed by Morax and she has come to Khaenriah as she couldn't accept Morax as her deity, aka she is still loyal to the god she followed. Now this can very well be a lie, as her name and her disappearance at the end, both were suspicious. But her excuse works. It would only work if Morax was actually going around on conquest during that time, thus making her lie believable. Thus, the events in perinheri take place around Archon war 2000 years ago. Meaning Black Eclipse Dynasty took over Khaenriah, sometime during or right before the Archon war. Deshret was already dead during this time.
3- During Crimson moon dynasty Alchemy flourished aka Khemia and in Black Eclipse Dynasty's era, automatons fluorished(basically automatons began mass producing during this era..around and after archon war.
4- You mentioned that the artisan worked in underground labyrinth with robotic machines, this level of advancement puts it under the black eclipse dynasty's rule thus placing the time line of the events very close to archon war OR Before destruction of khaenriah. Aka 500-2000 years ago approximately.

5- IF your assumption that Mare Jivari did not exist till the happening of these events, then it would make sense that Mare Jivari came into existence during the archon war. We can also prove at least the existence of mare jivari via three sources, Wanderers troupe artifact lore, Lavawalkers set and current time via Stanley.
Wanderer's troupe went there 1000ish years ago, aka during the rule of Aristocracy in Mondstadt. They mention Mare jivari has a sea of flames.
Lavawalker went there sometime around cataclysm(i believe) and described it as a land of ambers full of life and wild creatures
While in current time stanley describes it as a land of ashes. Its like following a cycle, flames, embers, ashes, and then back to life like a Phoenix..we will witness the rise of Mare Jivari on our journey.
Anyway, this kind of proves that Mare Jivari at least existed 1000 years ago. So it must have been formed sometime around archon war, OR the earlier battles between primordial one and second who came or the dragons. If you believe that the events in this video happen before the creation of mare jivari, it means that mare jivari was created sometime within between archon war and 1000+ years ago.

So TLDR timeline of this video seems to be around archon war 2000 years ago..and not during era of King Deshret. Infact, the golden tear might be an ode to Remurus and sybilla. Sybilla the seer appeared as a golden bee(golden tear drop shape) and showed Remus the visions of future(aka the prophecy of his kingdom).

  12. I wonder why they’re soo secretive about Natlan. We know people and go in and out of it because of the npc in that combat event that is yet to come out. In the livestream, it could briefly be seen that he talked about his girlfriend from Natlan and how he recently has come back home from Natlan. Either they there’s a big game altering secret there, or Hoyo didn’t quite know what they wanted to do for Natlan for a while so they just didn’t mention anything until version 4

  13. I suspect that the incident that created Mare Jivari is the same incident where the unnamend artisan first saw the "Black Tide". After all, Mare Jivari is described as a place of death, and a desert of white ash, meaning not a single record survived the manifestation of forbidden knowledge. Moreover, the Sumeru desert is a clear pointer to the way the life drains from things touched by forbidden knowledge.
I'm also confident that the tyrant king was a half-sarian, something either previously unseen in Natlan at that time, or possibly an ostracised people who were hated by both pure-blooded sides. His entire rule could've been his revenge for the mistreatment he received, maybe even at the hands of his own parents, like the shackled Sarian. As he experienced only cruelty in his life, he was determined to respond in kind.

  14. I pray the Dragon's form in Natlan is that of K'uk'ulkan.

Also Xbalanque is the name of one of the Maya Hero Twins. The oldest Mayan legend to have been preserved in its entirety. One of their most noteworthy feats is outwitting and defeating the lords of Xibalba (underworld)
