I don’t mind Genshin being a Gatcha game. I don’t mind Genshin has an extreme diversity in content. I don’t mind slow patches & I certainly don’t mind people talking bad about the game or judging me for my opinions. But I don’t think Genshin is honest with itself for what it is.

I agree, the game definitely has an identity crisis. They want you to build characters and have all these 5star characters only to use them for 2 weeks at a time. As 1.0 player as well, primos have become less and less important for me. At this point, I’m only pulling for those 2 or 3 characters I really want. Abyss isn’t worth the stress, it doesn’t feel like endgame content, just and ever present event that changes.
Hoyoverse is forced to be stingy and dishonest with Genshin Impact because of leakers. If we get rid of the leakers, the game will become much better.
We go through this cycle every month or so. New patch comes out= game good. Second half of patch= boring/dead game. New patch comes out, forget about all your complaints for the next couple of weeks
I feel like the problem is people treat this gacha game like a AAA live service and want to stay on it 24/7
If people found other hobbies, a lot of this stuff wouldn’t even bother folks.
……..spot on as usual. A real struggle to log in.
1. Experiencing story isn't awesome: Even if the lore is good, it is bogged down by the incessant dialogue that is unskippable. The way the story is revealed seems designed to take as much time as possible…rather than making it more interesting for the player to experience.
2. The exploration is boring (Unengaging)…it's like opening up an art book. Except on every 3rd page the art is covered by a scratch to reveal film that you are forced to remove to see the art….just to waste your time.
3. The characters…well, they are there and they are pretty. I'll admit it's still interesting to see what the new characters will do. However, even if I get the character, it just goes into a collection I can't do much with.
Most of the old guard just stick around hoping Hoyo will change and are pinning their hopes on Sumeru. If Sumeru is more of the same I expect that they will move on.
Got really close to that uninstall button today….but I think I can hold on till Sumeru.
To me, Genshin is playing with dolls. I like playing around in the Overworld, and as someone who also enjoys farm sims, I like resource management. I always ask for more end-game content and extra resin in the feedback surveys, but generally, I have pretty low expectations. Started during Raiden's first banner.
Still, I think Genshin could do better in providing permanent end game content that provides filler for slow patches and probably do better overall when it comes to UI optimizations and other things to do.
Honestly bro I’ve listened to Tectone & Mtash’s take on this and I have to say this is the most accurate. The way you put it is correct. This is my first Gacha game ever. I love jrpg games and action jrpg games. So to me when I first started playing in patch 2.0 it had felt like an open world jrpg game, but as you approach the end game you realize that this game is just a Gacha game.
Nah just let the truth be know this game type boring the character are carrying the game.
"if there wasn't any Primogem, would you go out and explore the open world?" I'm a 1.0 player and my answer is yes, I would.
And the problem is… The open world is underdeveloped, and is developing VERY slowly. But I understand that creating such a massive open world with lots of mechanisms and puzzles (that I usually dislike) require time, so… that's it. I still like the game and I'll stick to the boat until I start dislike the game (which isn't any time soon, and I don't think that moment will ever come… for now).
You should start a podcast. I’d tune-in and I’m sure many others would too.
Can't go to tectone youtube page. Not someone who I want to support.
I agree with most of your points and disagree with some of it. Yes Genshin right now is mundane, we just do daily commission, use resin for something, do abyss once it resets, etc. It just repetitive. However, I'm not doing exploration because it gives me primogems, I'm doing it because it is FUN. I know everyone have their own preferences, but their overworld actually offers many very interesting aspects, you can't help but appreciate it. They are a lot of chests, animals, plants, puzzles, monsters, gimmick, lores, etc and usually different region offers different things as well. Still, for old players especially from day 1, maybe we already had enough of exploration, and again not everyone enjoys exploring i guess. As for "gacha" game, technically hyv isn't lying, they just didn't tell the whole truth. It's not "gacha" is associated with negative meaning, it just there are thousands of gacha games out there. Obviously selling genshin as gacha won't really attracts people to play, since there are already similar games with waifu as their selling point. So they need something different, something unique that not a lot of gacha games out there have those. At the end of the day, they still need something else to make money, so they sells characters, which can also explore the world. Tho I'll be lying if I'm not saying most players plays this game because of waifus or husbandos. Honestly, if they make this games cost $60 but without any other microtransactions, I highly doubt that this game will be this popular or generates a lot of money for hyv, f2p as business model is still much more rewarding for them I think. But other than that, I agree with you. Raising a character costs way too much and also time-gated since resin are scarce, grinding ain't fun coz artifacts multi-layer RNG, Abyss is the only proper endgame content, and much more. Really hope in version 3.0, we not only get Sumeru region and Dendro elements, we also should get more contents, either QoL improvements or playable contents.
Men can't wait to create my own Raiden in Tower of Fantasy.. 😅
I am a 1.0 player~~ and even though there r so many flaws in the game i still enjoy playing it like the 1st time.
I think for many things like in music, games, even its good itself, the fan base can be too toxic.
Im a 1.1 player, and im still playing, its actually the only game that ive not gotten bored of, which is surprising since, i am?? bored of it? I mean, all i really do is my dailies now, but i still play it every day. Ive also 100% the map, including chasm, and 36 star the abyss the past few months, so there isnt much to do anymore, but I dont plan on quitting anytime soon though
Yup. That's true. All my friends and brothers whom invite me to play this game in the beginning since 1.0 had already left the game during 1.5. I am the only one who still keep on playing this game since 1.0. All of the concerns and dissatisfied they've voiced out are always about community and the lack of care from the dev. To me, Genshin is just their bitcoin for Honkai. Let stop coping here guys, we know how bad Genshin is since 2.1. It has been an absolute disappointment ride since then (2.1). They've turn a blind eyes and deafened ears on the rants over any mistakes or cheapskates they've done. I blame the bootlickers for enabling Mhy to leech the players at this point.
This video would've been cooler with gameplay in the background. Just my opinion
Day 1 player here~ I love this game. Honestly to me its like reading a manga. A weekly/monthly experience~ I enjoy exploring the maps. I feel like everything they've release since 1.0 has been amazing (exploration wise.) The puzzles are getting more creative, verticality and atmosphere of the new maps (chasm/Enkanomiya) have been pretty amazing ngl. Idm the combat being easy because it's fun doing self imposed challenges (I personally love uploading ayaka solo runs xD.) While I do agree that character skills are in the more simplified end I think the most fun part of combat is testing out team comps together and make your favorites shine.
My major gripe with the game is honestly the script. Since it designed with younger audiences in time they need to reiterate or simplify all the conversations through paimon so you can understand that plot. I'm still hoping for a possible guild system so there's more reason to interact with friends~
And nothing wrong with leaving game :O We all get burnt out. Whether it be games, books, films etc. I think it's perfectly fine to quit genshin and move onto something else~ Or have an occasional break and enjoy other games out there! Always the option to come back to it when there's a major update and leave again! Once your account is solid enough You don't really need anymore extra units (other than going for the fun factor.) Abyss is very optional and the events for the most part have been doable with free units they offer. The Primo rewards are in the easy clear too if that's all you want from an event.
While Ive said before that we should give em time for the never expeced to be this successful, I gotta be real, I never saw the beginning of fgo but if it was this barren between updates I think it wouldn't have lasted, if not by name alone, which isn't the case for genshin, since this is a new ip
3:50 yes
something bad : the resin rates at higher levels and resin for weekly bosses, drop rate of billets.
Open world? More like open wallet.
why do people say oooh this is a problem ooooh that's a problem. I think it's pretty chill. Maybe I want summeru a little earlier but otherwise I'm content with what we have( though planting flowers is very boring.) . A pvp system would be nuts though. For example kind of like xenoverse right where you have an open world but then you have a battle mode as well. That would really help the player base to be more in touch. You could spar with your friends. Leaderboards would be nice both for both Abbys and pvp.
1.0 here with 3 accounts ^^
This is what I see and hear whenever I see content creators like Tectone making Genshin complaint videos. “Hey guys, lets talk about everything wrong with the game and what they need to fix and change. Meanwhile I’ll be C6ing and R5ing the next new character and weapons while continuing to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on every single banner!”
Basically, you have whales making videos pointing out issues of a product that they themselves continue to heavily support financially. So ask yourself this question. Who TF are these complaint videos for? Because they sure as hell aren’t for the corporation. Hoyoverse is getting exactly what they want, their bag, the MONEY. So why would they EVER consider changing anything?
Whales are a huge part of the problem. Matter of fact, any consumer continuously spending money on a flawed product is actively playing a role in stalling progress. Thus Hoyoverse continues riding that greed train all the way to the bank.
All this ish just blows my mind that people think merely talking about issues without taking action will somehow get the company’s attention. They don’t give AF about mere words. Actions and consequences facilitate change. You mess with Hoyoverse’s money, that’s when you’ll see changes. That’s the one thing I can credit Mtashed for. He did at least stop mega whaling to back up his stance. So unless dudes like Tectone are willing to spearhead an actual movement for real solutions and changes by withholding their money, they need to STFU. Because complaints are empty without real actions. But I get it. Content creators have a financial stake in this too. So don’t expect them to stop whaling because at the end of the day, they’re all trying to get that bag too. Still, complaint videos are hollow.
Am 1.0 veteran and I say, if by 3.0 the game doesnt finally some bigger fundamental improvements, and doesnt reduce at least a bit their greedyness in hindsight that theres soon finally competition in Tower of Fantasy, then this game probably wont see a 4.0 anymore, before most players will quit the game, if MHY essentially does nothing else than adding always only nes characters n Weapons, every few patches a new region, while constantly ignoring their existing features to get updated, improved, rebalanced and expanded.
Why 3.0, because the implemention of dendro is the first real massive gamechanger that forces literally MHY to take a look back, before adding it to hasty n risking a huge player backlash, if they just add to the game, call it a day and dont use the huge opportunity to rebalance the game, fix n buff characters around the new status quo of the combat system and use it to raise the long overdue caps, so that content as like the abyss can get finally expanded too with a second layer of floors 13 to 25 together with finally abyss achievements part 2 being added
Because that would keep people active n busy, if caps get raised and when we could progress our characters further with more new equipment, secondary weapon ect.
Boring repetitive events arent what keeps people active on longterm basis, its character progression n character/main story, because thats for what we play genshin for, not for the gacha, not for the repetitive domain grind that is super boring due to no alternatives in the game being there, everything has just exact 1 single way how to obtain something you need
U need talent book X but you hate the domain? your bad luck, same with Artefacts/Weapon Materials. Sadly
People demand for over a year now that the game needs endcontent, significant improval of the coop feature, turning the game to something where you also want to play together n not decline people, cause you dont even see why they want to join, what they want from you, in fear they might steal your materials, fishes or whatever.
That this is even the status quo for so long, just shows how clueless and incompetent MHY seems to be regarding multiplayer content, that they havent improved on that front anything at all yet since release day to the poiht that I believer we will likely never see improvements on that part and the game should have been designed as pure offline game.
Honestly just play casually, everything feels much better when you don't care much. BTW I would do exploration even if they give me 0 primo gems.
since 1.0
I’m a 1.0 player… I started the day klees banner started
Will still explore the world if there was no new playable characters ? No I will probably stop, because that why I start genshin for, collect characters and explore with them, getting to know their story
To me genshin as flaws, like every other gacha game, but i also think that a good part of the players unconsciously or not take genshin for what it's not … a MMO surely do to it's open world design
Gacha games are made for you to collect and play as many characters as possible and it's honestly do an amazing job at advertised them
For those who want spécifically hard challenges I don't think genshin is the for that and was never sold that way
Before defending or tackle the game I think 2 questions are in order:
What genshin aim for ?
What do I want of this game ?
And if the 2 answers are drastically opposed then yes try looking for another game
Many improvements can be made but if these this changes are wanted to turn genshin in what it's not are they really necessary ?
That just my opinion
The thing is…it IS an exploration open world game. What kind of exploration game do you explore for a year or two after it came out? No way. Nobody is still exploring breath of the wild.
Once you do it, it’s done, and the gacha and domains is what remains. But when you finish Breath of the wild, when you finish the open world there’s absolutely nothing.
It’s DEFINITELY open world exploration for the first 80+ hours etc (at least for me). But it also has some aspect of replay ability, as opposed to one and done RPGs.
Really missed opportunity for the events not to send you back to the open world to explore and have new unique fights to have.
I started playing day 1 but after 1.3 I fell off hard until Kazuha, then left again and I haven't really came back to the game I only keep up with the community rn.
No surprise. It's a gacha game. I am baffled why people don't realize it from the start. lmao I'm a Day 01 player and I know exactly what I'm going to get out from this game.
I’m a 1.0 player ar59 who has played every single day since then. During the journey I bought something like 4-5 welkins, never bought battle pass. Currently I was saving for more meta-wise characters like kazuha (maybe Yelan) because that’s my way to enjoy the game. A few days ago I’ve fallen in the weapon banner trap and managed to pull 2 unforged before mistsplitter, spending a total of 120+ wishes. The point is that all my effort is gone this easily due to a probably bad decision. Now I feel like there’s no reason to continue playing… I have only 20k primos and I’ll miss Yelan to save for kazuha. Btw you’re an unique content creator, you always point out the real simple problems Genshin has and I bet all the og players can agree with your points.
My biggest complaint is that the events don’t reuse the best assets of the game: combat and open world.
Throw a bunch of crazy monsters on a hill and get me to fight them.
Put the cryo regisvine in inazuma and get me to research why it’s here, and make me fight it (but make it stronger than the regular one)
Put like 20 ruin guards in a fight just outside of liyue for the world level 8 people and have a short expose about khanrea or something while we defend the city from being field tilled.
Idk it’s not that hard to think of interesting little combat treats, no reason to be potting flowers 💐
It's a JRPG that is HEAVILY time gated. lol This game does have content but the time gating for the story is going to spread out over 5 years…. after 19 months I don't even character about collecting characters because I've got 4 team options for abyss. What I want is more flexibility on when to play at this point. Let us Condense a weeks worth a Resin so that I gamble it ones a week… because that's the end game at this point. lol
I'm still play for the patch updates but the daily stuff is dead to me really. lol At AR59 this is it.
I mean the ads show the best part of the game, i dont know what to say to that
at this point of the game, i just enjoy the characters. a little bit of exploration. my inazuma still unexplored fully. so many quests still unattended. too lazy to do it.
I’m really glad Soul of an Artist inspired you. I liked his content a good deal and I was sad to hear about him getting attacked by fans here since I liked your content too. This video was the first in a while where I really felt like you had something to say. Thank you. I was losing interest honestly because it never felt like you had a voice in whatever you discussed. It can be grounding, but I liked hearing your thoughts.
I would like if they added more to Spiral abyss and really invested in the tea pot for interactive play with friends. It doesn’t have to be special events but I would like to see it more utilized since they put so much emphasis on their characters it would be nice to unlock stuff with them there more or just something special by them being in your teapot. Like maybe friendship gives a bonus and it can be lost if not maintained? Maybe teapot friends have something special to give once in a while. Like they saw this and thought of you? I want to interact more with the characters they want me to like rather than just have them be a skin suit I use as a tool. I think it could be nice to see mini events for story and characters, nothing grand, just something small like more world quests where the character pops up like a surprise! I was elated to see Gorou in one randomly!
Everything you said is exactly on point, but what really worries me is that Hoyo is working on a couple other of different genre of games at the same time, including a FPS. We don't know if the FPS game will be gacha or not, but my money is on it will be, and if it is and becomes successful what stops these other and honestly greedier companies from trying it themselves next. Like you can't tell me that ActiBlizzard or Ubisoft wouldn't try it if it works. Let's just hope the future won't be filled with bad choices.
Genshin is being treated like a mobile game. Testing the frustrations and pockets of the community to its limits, stretching content out until it's just a barely visible smear, nerfing gameplay to slow players down as much as possible, ignoring veterans because new players and casuals are more likely to spend, censoring critisisms in favour of forced positivity.
It's only gonna get worse if the community doesn't say anything or even better, reduce their spending. It's not that they can't fix their game, they know how, they just don't want to. Because the silence that tells Mihoyo the players are okay with the current state of things.
I played 6 months ago did nearly every questinch of this game map except the lower area of the chasm when i look at it i say man i don't want this to be another Enkanomiya a good place to play and explore but once it is done ….. it is gone
Though lore, story, ost and map expansions will likely keep me around until the bitter end (played since 1.1), I am really starting to grow tired of Genshins mundane day to day gameplay and Hoyoverse's inflexibility/lack of care for long time players. Genshins community as a whole may need to be more accepting of others' opinions, but there always were a lot of people who spoke up about their concerns in a reasonable way. All this critique just seems to fall on deaf ears though. No fine-tuning of existing systems (battle, equipment, farming, difficulty/world lv) or expansion of endgame content in sight. Even if the flaws of the game are discussed more openly, I doubt there will be any meaningful changes since Genshin is not dependent on steady customers.
