LUMINE BACKSTORY! Explaining "The Road Not Taken" Animated Short (Genshin Impact)

My attempt at explaining the โ€œThe Road Not Takenโ€ Animated Short (https://youtu.be/T5-YMslEmxw) I am so happy to see an animation dedicated for the twins of genshin impact! We see a lot of sweet moments as well as some dark parts. Letโ€™s try to understand what the animation signifies for the twins and the main story of genshin impact. I hope you enjoy the video ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. Theory: What if Dainslef is trying to convince us that our sibiling is doing the wrong thing so that we help him get revenge on our twin without us knowing he is just using us?

  2. Could this also be the result of the places they went to have something to do with their different views? The Traveler traveled across Mondstat first while the sibling arrived to Khaenri'ah.

Also does anyone think the sibling will do something bad to the dragon sovereigns?

  3. Not convinced the road not traveled refers to the picturesque moments, but the diverging paths of the traveler and their sibling. The moments are most likely memories of the same happy times from opposite perspectives, because it shows Lumine getting her flower in her hair and Aether getting his braid.

  4. Paimon is very annoying, but this definitely makes me appreciate her, cause you can clearly see how much of a difference her presence made. I really hope we'll be able to properly reunite with our sibling and have a happy ending, no matter how rough it'll be to get to that point. I'm very invested in the sibling lore which makes me feel very immersed so I feel like if there's a bad ending it'll hurt me on a personal level.

  5. The thing with the siblings though is that there are big implications that they are just the same person. In that latest event they say that Miss Hina looks like Gorou like Traveler looks like their sibling… and ofc Gorou and Miss Hina are the same person. Someone who had seen fan-creation guidelines kinda said the same thing too? Personal theory is that one of them sleeps and wakes up as the other but the memories aren't shared. When our Traveler sees their "sibling" as far as I remember it's always when Dain is around so maybe he's intentionally/unintentionally creating some kind of past memory illusion? Also think that maybe Aether's timeline here is the original and Lumine is the one out of time changing the past, creating a butterfly effect. Tbh I think Traveler IS unknowingly the Loom of Fate and maybe now both can be active at once?

  6. "If you think this is going to have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention"; well at least not at first, but maybe at the very very end I'd expect something "bittersweet".

  7. My theory regarding the supposed "seal" the Unknown God place on the twins is that one is cursed to be separated from their stellar powers, forced to walk the lands of Teyvat and absorb the elements (Aether/Traveler). Meanwhile, one is cursed to never connect with Teyvat, with only their stellar powers to hold onto (Lumine/Sibling).

  8. Though to be fair, Lumine is a young girl traveling with a grown ass man, so I wouldn't expect them to have the same closeness as Aether and paimon.

Also, why the heck would she just run up leave her brother like that???

  9. Dainsleif in the travail trailer: "At the end of your journey, one final doorway remains. Step forth if you have understood the meaning of your journey …. Then, all threads of fate will be yours to reweave."

A note in the Narsissenkreuz Ordo: "…To excise the self is not to die, but rather to die before death. That way, there is no life to be ended. Thus may one achieve eternity. This step is vital, for by this, may one avoid receiving a Vision by some error. To receive a Vision is to sell oneself to the "fate" of this world โ€” to Heimarmene, and to evermore lose the chance to walk the correct path"

Idk what dots I'm connecting here per se but there are dots.

  10. I have a theory it's Not that Aether in this case, wasn't asleep for 500yrs but rather he was sent 500yrs into the future while Lumine was sent 500yrs into the past (Or vice versa depending on your choice) which would also explain WHY Lumine couldn't find her brother and why Aether had no clue why couldn't sense his sister. It's because they were each sent entirely to separate time periods on purpose by the Unknown god.(Aka Corrupted Kiana)

  11. I interpreted it in a different way. In fact, what if the travelers were already in Teyvat and traveled through Teyvat before the cataclysm. And when things started to get ugly in Teyvat they tried to leave, but the Celestial Principles stopped them, separated them and messed with their memories? The detail that makes me come to this conclusion is that in the vision it is the Aether who places the inteyvat in Lumine's head. But this flower only grows in Khaenriah and she already appears with it when she awakens, alone, at the dawn of the story (And it is no coincidence that he awakens in her Dusk, indicating that Lumine is the beginning and Aether the end).

What if everything we know about them so far isn't true. If they arrived in Teyvat much earlier than they say and were kept there against their will.

In Dainsleif's first quest, Aether lets it slip that he knew more about Khaenriah than we imagined, surprising even Paimon.

  12. Paimon possibly lost their home and their people as well… they just don't remember (suffering from a curse) so they're not grieving.
I am pretty sure Paimon is suffering from a case of the Rukkhadevata-effect. But time will tell.
