Back in the day Lvl 90 was quite the resource trap a lot of people fell into, some deny it, some try to reason for it, but ultimately it was an expensive endeavor that yielded little reward. Is this still the case though even if you’re a newer player?

I hope the sight of my 89/90's brings you as much joy as it brings me.
always level 90 your aloy's
It looks like not a single Cryo unit made your cut for being “worth it”.
I just love seeing level 90s in my profile.
For me, 90-ing characters is like a last gift to my characters, because I have completed their build (for now). It's a sign of my investance and love to and for them!
Xiangling lv90 helps her overvape teams (rational). Though honestly I just bring everyone I play to level 90 since resources are a non-issue for me (AR60 no welkin/pass). But for newer players I would definitely recommend holding off on leveling to 90 for characters without transformative reactions or hp/def scaling. Lv90 also makes your characters tankier which is kind of underrated.
I mean, back then I absolutely know how much resources it needed to level up 80 to 90 and still do it since I got nothing else to do apart from farming talent book to lv up talent to lv 10..
If I REALLY like the character -> Lv 90
I'd say if your adventure level is lower 70-80 (ascention included) its perfectly sufficient to kill all things in the overworld, bosses included. However while it is true that the rise of power numbers wise is laughable, difference in level plays a HUGE role in how fast things die, and whether imperfectly dodging attack resolves in a love tap or most of your health, even accidental one shot. Raising supports like Bennet, Xiangling, Xinqou as well as non-standart Banner DPS that perform exceptionally well in synergy with other units you have (usually 2-3 are enough, backup is only to sidestep sudden dominance of immune targets), 5star supports or just non-copium characters that you see yourself using all the time are a great investment to level to 90. Example lvl 80 main DPSs with lvl 70-80 supports f2p levels, good to imperfect artifacts and incomplete constellations usually complete floor 9-10, struggle to save any stars in floor 11, and if by some mirracle you reach the end you might die from stray blow while mainly doing chip damage. Perhaps because they are populated by lvl 96-110 enemies. Lvl 90 guarantee to blow past floors 9-11 with ease every 2 weeks, only exception being bosses requiring special approach (like Thundering Fury), with same artifacts, characters, and generally same numbers appearing on the screen, and give a good fighting chance in Floor 12. Though that one usually requires some thought, since DPS is reduced again.
But again, do this only when you reach basically endgame or get a REALLY good character that on your account doesn't make you tilt head and wonder why the numbers looked so much cooler in showcase videos. Since its very easy, especially with resource abundance early on to bump a waifu or first 5 star you get to 90 and in little time move on and find very little opportunity to play them again. Its a waste of mora and books.
Wishes from leveling to 70 VS. investing in your best characters. Look, it might look tempting, I know, but you'll get most bang for your buck from not missing out on all those free Abyss primos. You can always level your starters, Aloys and 4-stars you currently have no team or need for later.
Artifacts are RNG, you can spend all your fragile resin on one domain and have you precious few great pieces be turned into sad wasted potential reminders. So while they are very importand don't stave improvements in other areas until you refurbish one already 'outfitted' character. However if the day seems lucky for you – by all means, spend your daily allowance on it, or try raising substats.
I plan to up all of my character lvl 90
I've seen how people have been bashing level 90 characters and how its really not worth the cost since genshin first came out. But did i listen? Honestly no. After getting my main team to level 90 for the heck of it and slowly getting bored of it, i decided maxing out all the characters i have was one of my end goals. Of course, that only applied to the characters i have, since i'm just a dolphin solely rolling for characters i want.
For people that are a long time in the game, and are still in the fence: leveling to 90 even if you don't considere reactions (that you should) it's a certain increase compared to another week with no good artifacts T-T
Me seeing this video : hmmm interesting
Also me: upgrades qiqi to 90 anyway cuz she's my main dps.
I highly recommend using damage calculators to see how much damage increase you get from leveling to 90 and any other sources of damage increase… if you’re not lazy, that is. You can even use some scanners to automatically have datas of your weapons, characters, and artifacts. I feel like you should be able to judge clearly if you’ve seen the exact damage increase
I like mitnmaxing my favorite characters, so leveling them 90 is a no brainer. U dont need to level up them to 90 if you want to save up for other characters because level 80 is already a sweet spot.
I'm actually of the thought that levelling to 90 is a lot more worth it than people think. When you said at 3:08 that a 2.86% dps increase was bad, I actually don't particularly agree: At endgame when you already have high invested characters, 2.86% is worth two to three offensive sub rolls, and you can waste tens of thousands of resin trying to get those subrolls and upgrade your artifacts. There's also the fact that you actually do more damage to enemies when you up your level independent of any other stat- from 80 to 90 is roughly a 2-3% dps increase over the level 100 enemies in abyss 12. Add both of them together and you get a 5% DPS increase from levelling to 90 even with an ATK scaling character. To put into perspective, people will literally pull 5 star weapons to get a less than 10% DPS increase (R1 Pulse vs R5 Rust on Yoimiya is a sub-10% DPS increase). Crowning talents usually offers less than a 5% increase in DPS.
Levelling to 90 should always be done eventually on a DPS, atk scaling or not. For atk scalers, the priority comes lower, you should probably get a decent set of artifacts first and obviously level weapon to 90 first, but before trying to get godroll artifacts, levelling to 90 is very much worth doing.
One thing about Xiangling: while burgeon Xiangling isn't really a thing, Xiangling in Raiden National actually benefits significantly from levelling her to 90; this is because she actually triggers overloads on top of vaporizes (aka overvapes).
always level 90 your kazuha if you use him a lot in coop domains
I saw the CRAPPIEST lvl 90 kazoo and my lvl 80 was way better (2k attack and 300 em while theirs had 1k attack and 200 em)
THE PERSON KICKED ME OUT FIVE TIMES not even lying i didnt wanna join back but i didnt wanna do the domain alone so i kept joining random coops and it wa sthe same one over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again
I never see people bringing this up… But for me I never upgrade my characters to 90 because I don't have enough fragments 🥺 I had everything ready for zhongli but even if I converted all the fragments I had it wasn't enough
i have only leveled hu tao and ganyu to 90. Hu tao bcuz she gets more hp and ganyu bcuz she is my perfect character
I feel like you kind of gloss over the fact that the final ascension unlocks the last 2 talent levels
You also don't mention a kind of overlooked part of genshin for very late game players. The fact that the resources they lack most isn't mora or exp but resin. If you consistently buy the battle pass at some point mora and exp wont be what you are lacking.
The games core design is also leaning towards investing more heavily in specific characters. You can only bring 8 characters to the games most difficult challenge and the vast majority of events, domains etc. are 4 or rarely 8 characters. If you want to play the game the "META" way you want to invest a lot in 8-10 characters and then kind of forget the rest.
And im not even mentioning the other unmentioned benefits. Like having more HP/Def on a main dps (that doesn't scale with HP/Def ) might still sometimes be worth it just to make them tankier. Someone like Ganyu and Yoimiya is prone to die so sometimes a little bit more tankiness can be nice.
Id rather spend my resin on a sure character upgrade than spend it on some trash artifacts but you do you…
Player: lv90 is expensive, don't do it
Also player when they dump thousand of resin on an artifact domain: it's free real estate.
It was never a trap at least for old players. Playing daily and all events, especially buying BPs, will net you too much of exp books lying around if you don't level 90 any of your characters. Level 90 is a guaranteed upgrade of your stats, compared to the RNG hell of artifacts. Your resin is much more valuable to something that is guaranteed. The stay at level 80 mindset is only for super new players and/or very low AR players. The majority of us here are AR50+, in which that mindset should no longer apply.
Leveling up Bennett beyond 20 is a trap.
What is sunfire?
I stop at level 80 and let things take their time, ascend them and wait. My koko and zhongli got to 82 naturally. Kazuha got to 81 naturally etc.
For me the choice is simple. Get all waifus to lvl 89 and dudes can stay at lvl 1 lol
I level my characters at least level 80 with the characters I use but I mainly like to level my characters to lv 90 just to flex lol
I did it for the voice lines.
This video has some amazing production quality
I dunno if it was before but I've been playing for over 1.5 years and don't really think it's wasted to level cap, though I tend to stop at 89 to have my team as maxed as possible while not wasting exp gain.
If you ask me 90 was always usfull. Atleast for main dps units
I have a question
How is ur itto have one lv increased at skill? I don't understand
my yoimiya was at I think at 2400 attack with the pyro resonance but I wanted it to get to 2500… I levelled her to 90 aaaand
2497 -_-
tbh, i only really level them to 90 so i dont have to switch in co-op.
what about tank yanfei?
An actual useful video
