The Genshin Impact community has felt pretty agitated lately. 😤 The game is going on four years old now, and things are starting to feel… formulaic.
We know what to expect from the game now. 3 months of archon quests, lantern rite, then some dry patches and side stories until we make it to the next region.
Do you think Genshin is starting to feel formulaic? Do you think there’s enough variety? What type of content would you like to see?

The reason why characters are not perceived as content is because they are only relevant if you can use them. There isn't enough opportunities to use those characters. Add on top of that the time you need to raise them through unenjoyable grinds and some people often end up feeling cheated out of their time.
Really nuanced and engaging! subscribe!
Problem with us is that the same people saying not to critique the game are suppressing and at some point they’re gonna burnout so hard they won’t come back, the other third who just play seemingly to just critique and wish for more only seem to put their energy toward critiquing the community as opposed to actually doing something to impact devs and then the last third just play on and off based on practically unconscious interest. The problem with the game is they’re greedy af and try to play this game of confusion with the community, making them fight over whether the game is good or not. It is greedy in its gacha to the point they don’t want to spend money producing new content aside from visuals and new characters UNTIL one of the aspects of the game starts to hurt their profits.
When a significant portion of their spenders decide to not want to do abyss causing them to not purchase Constellations anymore then that is when they will finally come up with new endgame content. Anything they develop is exclusively for money. If people stop wanting to do the quests then they’ll breadcrumb a main story quest to reignite interest. Everything is a resource and all resources must be aimed toward making money, which would be okay if they didn’t make absurd profit margins… Anyways, it’s within any businesses rights to do these things so it’s not ACTUALLY a problem – hence why the community critiques the community as opposed to attempting to make changes toward the game. Your best bet as a consumer of this game is to NOT spend on constellations IF you usually have. Welkins are good and dandy but damn will they hurt if people decide to stop C2,4, or 6ing when they usually do. If the only aim is money, the only reason they’ll listen to is money and they WONT listen to complaints. Also the reason weapons are more expensive is because they know in the long run people with have enough high Con characters to destroy any new content thus only will purchase new character Cons out of aesthetics which the weapon is preferable to in that lens
for me personally, it’s a mix between burnout, Fontaine story(which imo is bad) having Natlan be leaked and seen the Arcon for that, and playing star rail also waiting for wuthering waves to release.
I think that was the final breaking point that I wanted to quit playing Genshin entirely and I did. as much as I love all these characters and storylines (sumeru being my favorite) but I can I meant that it’s kind of getting stale for me.
Great video, thanks a lot. I live the mix of the game since the beginning. Exploration, puzzles, lore and combat. For me the perfect mix.
I feel like it may, but they’re probably seeing how they’re loosing the community, so I think they’re going to slowly lower the bar, then make an absolutely astounding, reward filled patch in a while when the bar is lower than the Mariana Trench
Well dain isnt back, furina isnt back in 4.6 either and chiori future synergy seems weird to be centered around switch. Maybe they are changing actually
Maaaaan that's such a good video and I LOVE when (many) small creators like you have such a good perspective on things and can nuance what they say. It actually brings interesting conversations for everyone without the need to be toxic.
+1 sub 🙌🙌
Very good vid fr
People just desperately want genshin to be somehting its not which is a waste of your own time. Just play smt else i know its been said a 100 times but seriously.. just play smt else…
One thing I find annoying about the game is the character interactions it’s like the characters can’t have a bad thing to say about each other or even if they do they’re still somehow cordial and amicable with each other.
"waifu over meta" "female" …ick…
My major problem is that Hoyo doesn't seem interested in actually putting any longevity behind the things they release, which is especially bad for a live surface game. They release new characters with new abilities and gimmick, just to not give any content where to use these characters. They release interesting, story filled events every patch, just to make them unplayable forever the next week. They release massive areas and fill them with chest, just to put a few domains in between so it feels that you are still revisiting the area once you are done exploring for the first time.
It feels the game is like fast food. You are supposed to consume it without thinking too much, get happy that you got a new character or played a new event and then move on. I am still so upset that amazing events like the island exploration with Fishcl and Mona is now forever lost despite giving some needed character development and exploration to the featured characters. They put effort into a whole housing system, a TCG system, all these different subsystems and end up doing nothing with the core of the game.
If Genshin sways away from their "formula", players are going to complain about it. I personally appreciate the general plan because it sets a good pace for players who don't want constant stimulation.
I'm happy most of the content in genshin impact, I like most things not everything but many things, the only problem for me is the fandom, everything is just hate, arguments etc and the only good things that exist are overwriten by the bad things. Also the hated characters, it's clear that the fandom has favorite characters and if for some reason their character don't come on the banner but instead a less liked character they all put their hate into that character, even though for some people they really wanted that character. That was just one example from many others. I just want a better community
Exploration is the one thing i know dislike the most tbh. Gives you no sense of achievment and even when the regions look diffrent they all just feel the same.
Enemies that give you nothing for killing them, have no cool attacks and dont require you to use diffrent strategies.
Farming is sh*t because you have to run around with a map on a diffrent screen to see the locations to then wait 2 days for stuff to respawn and do that for 2 weeks for few hours every day then youll have enough for the character you are farming for.
The puzzles are mostly boring and to many, they are fun doing 30 times but not 300, same issue as with chests, getting 30 chests with good loot is cool but getting 300 with nothing but scraps and furniture feels bad.
Game telling you you have 100% even tho you are at 81%.
No use for your build characters so no need to farm for them either, just use the artifacts you get from weekly bosses and you good for most content, abyss dosnt even give you good rewards either so doing it has no point since pulling for new characters is useless because you cant use them anywhere.
In a stream a few days ago, idk who it was that said it like tenha or tuona idk, they said ZZZ will need a reason for players to log in every day because in the beta it didnt have that…. well genshin didnt have that since 2.5 tbh and with all the disappointments one after another it gets hard going back into the game.
I wish theyd add more endgame combat, itd hype the game up really well, I dont understand why they dont add more combat features
video being like " not enough waifus " when it's like waifus impact and Sumeru is the ONLY time where we got husbando into husbando into husbando – DEHYA
Yap all you want if genshin still getting 60 million a month plus PC and Playstation sales it doesnt change the fact that there still majority of ppl are still regardless of what content they are… So dont pretend just adding some end game and co-op will do anything better… Really why dont you make the game lets see if you can do better. Internet dweller and CC are all the same pretend they have IQ of the internet to pretend they Mr Know it ALl. If the revenue still remain stronger whats the point of yapping… Rule of thumb Don't fix what's not broken.
Tbh, playing HSR made me fall in love with Genshin all over again. I played for the story and the characters, and I appreciated the exploration, but the combat was always just a chore to me whether overworld or spiral abyss. And that hasn't changed for Star Rail either, I love the game and its characters and story and lore… but I hate turn-based combat, it feels like an even bigger chore, and it having a much more concentrated focus in the game doesn't help me enjoy it any better. But after playing it and experiencing just how (understandably, fundamentally different game design after all) restricted HSR makes me feel, I can better appreciate the things I love about Genshin at my own pace.
Neither game has made me feel any sort of accomplishment or plain joy for winning a battle for a long time, not even from tough or intense battles. So I haven't 36 star'd Genshin even though I've been playing since 1.0 and mostly keep up with the meta, and I actively ignore even playing spiral abyss for multiple patches cause I'm just that disinterested. Especially since, after you 36 star, what else is there to do then? It's not like spiral abyss changes until it resets, so you're still left with nothing to do after. But something I have actively done weekly is play through HSR's simulated universe, and it's something I wish Genshin would add to expand the lategame alongside spiral abyss. I'd be much more enticed to go through all that repetitive combat if it had some bonus lore about literally anything, exclusive events and modes, and less identical experiences.
Another aspect is simply that Genshin's enemies have just gotten more… un-fun to battle? Like I haven't enjoyed fighting a boss since Childe. His fight was fun and engaging, because it was, like, an actual fight! I rarely feel the same nowadays (God I love Rainbow Liam) because many enemies I can either decimate instantly, or they're bosses with tedious mechanics that make me feel more like I'm pretending to fight until the game lets me damage them properly or straight up damages them for me. It's something I really hope Natlan will change.
i love this part 9:13 and for that ! im subscribing !
Tldr; games be aholes as usual. No sense of respect for one another – "why is this thing that doesn't cater specifically to my wants and needs is being implemented?!?!", no sense of respect for the fact that the game is surely imperfect but it's free – and given the costs of the AAA (!) games this should account for something. People be acting like the experience (music, scenery, lore, exploration, gameplay) Genshin gives is the norm, but it just isn't. Lemme say it again, it ain't in not way perfect, but sometimes people should just take a step back and consider the whole picture, and not just their freaking wants and needs. The chronicle wish reception was the best example of this toxic community.
i've been playing a lot more star rail recently, and i love the simulated universe with its complicated and difficult gameplay with interesting lore behind it. even if i've completed everything in gold and gears, i love to go back and try a new strategy i see for fun. i'm just not getting that same feeling from genshin anymore.
You make a lot of good points. On the point of character development rate, come on. Nikki and Blue Archive take what half the effort to make a character at best?
Lemme tell you why characters are not at the very least good content. Not everyone will be getting a specific character whether they want to or not. Because they can just not like them or simply not have the funds to get them. So you are releasing content that a good chunk of your players will not have access to Because the overwhelming majority of them are f2p
As someone who used to play Genshin like EVERYDAY, Starting out with Sky: Children of the Light made me feel really burnt out once I kept going with it along with Genshin until I dropped Genshin altogether. I believe it's because I found Sky to be much more forgiving game-wise; Sure, there are limited time content such as Seasons and/or Days Events, but Seasonal areas are always open for you to come over and you can always access quests even if the season was over so long ago. Sure, there are items that need you to pay through in app purchases, but a lot (if not all) come back anyway, some even turning into ones you can just pay through in game currency. Sure, Sky might also be grindy once you finish your first adventure, but what I believe it offers differently from Genshin is that they give you more daily cap than Genshin would offer; one day's worth of farming in Sky pretty much gives way for you to purchase quite some items where Genshin's daily quest pretty much gives you half a gacha's worth (And that's only 1 ROLL. Some of you might say dmth different but this is my late game experience as I was about AR50-60 before I dropped).
To sum it all up, I believe what I was finding for that made me get frustrated in the end is that as a player who takes breaks every now and then, I will miss out on a LOT in Genshin plus grinding there is a lot of a chore where it only gives you little as thanks especially if you don't have a battle pass, where in other games that I ended up playing on a regular basis (Monster Hunter and Sky) Satisfies me on a different level due to the grindy but rather rewarding results in the end.
Genshin just reaching its time
95% of the player base wouldn't care if all the content us 5% want were added
i actually welcome the dry patches to catch up, i have a life.. i dont know how everyone does everything
For me as an end game player, it has stagnated a lot, spiral abyss is so boring since it doesn’t really change
I'm just sticking it for the lore and story
I like Genshin I started playing a month ago haha been grinding hours that and Honkai but I like open world more than turn by turn
people dont realize that the End game content for this game is bascially decimating the land scape, committing mass geocide and wild life extinction on a daily basis.
You forgot to mention that all the archon (except for Zhongli) somehow have TWO SIDE to them
Ei and Makoto
Nahida and Rukkhadevata
Furina and Focalor
Like COME ON!!!
i have completed everything , exploration 100% , every abyss 36 start and so on, i like how they take things slow in mid region , i have time to breadth and one every other patch they are expanding , new character has story quest and when you start to cap 160 resin there is no going back untill new character comes home. These content creators job are to make content and stream etc , they have limited content but for us i think these event quest and expansion are preety good . only thing i need is have voice in major world quest and 2 week for abyss reset should be every 10 days.
