Your enjoyment with the game may vary GREATLY depending on which banners are active when you start playing. Namely the 4-stars on them.
I started playing when 2 back-to-back horrible banners were active.
All of my characters were horrible except 1 decent one, and I was miserable.
The start of the game gives you the most wishes in the shortest time. If you aren't happy with who you get in your first ~20 AR, don't be afraid to start over.
I did, and it made a WORLD of difference.
Yes, you can complete the game with just starter characters, but it is harder and more tedious. Look up banner reviews and pay attention to how people rank the 4-stars on them.
At the very least, be ready to save your wishes if the 4-stars are bad.
The current banner has Bennett & Chevruse, which is a good start.

Story is 99% filler and there is no gameplay content. Too many good games coming out next two months to waste any time or money on a below mid experience like genshin tbh
I started playing maybe late November 2023 and I am very happy with my decision. Although I may have to wait for the 5 stars I want, the archon quests are so deep and I love the lure intertwined in the story and each beautifully made characters. The music and graphics are beautiful, the cutscenes give me goose bumps because of how well made they are, and I really enjoy the fighting system. I don’t feel begin on anything but the characters which I can get over cause I know many others don’t have much either. I am a bit annoyed about the Inazuma thing cause I’m in the mist of it now but I love the new lore I get to experience which I will not spoil. I Stan Shenhe
It cost 400 dollars to pull ONE character which usually only has a single ability that is actually useful.
And almost 1k real money dollars for a SINGLE 5* weapon.
Please stay away from this game forever. It aint worth it

(Tho i had the game installed since release but never played it till the patches before fontaine)
Tbh it felt too late when i started at first coz of the events i missed, the contents and stuffs that happened before but as i progress to the game, the more i get comfortable and happy playing it
The new events that happens now and the older events that rerun are always great
Exploration and gameplay is always exciting
Coop with friends or random is fun
The game never change, it just improves so no matter when u start playing…it will be alright
Just simply play at your own pace and have fun withit
And as of now i was able to 36 star the abyss for the first time ❤😂

ARTIFACTS GRINDING IS HELL

I think its best to get just the daily thing that gives ya 90 Primos. Like that ya have 60 from the dailies, so it's 150 yar forced to play for 10 more and you have a wish a day.
With this method I get a 5 star in 1 out of 2 banners. And if ya time them well( you can gather to I dont) you will get who ya want. Like this ya spend a little yes, but it's not running you and it just adds to the enjoyment. Making it to easy makes it boring. Having it too hard makes it annoying. So this is how I ballance it.
I started in august and have all the standards except Tignari 🤷♂️ and then 5 more 5 stars from banners that I actually wanted.
As for the 4 stars they just pop on standard to, I got Gorou c2 just from random standard. And Faruzan c4.
So yeah, this seems to me the best way to go, at least for me.
Quick correction to your bit about Inazuma…You cannot walk to Fontaine either. It's story locked and I found out the hard way after trying to walk there. Can't talk to the npc that takes you by boat either. So no you cannot walk to Inazuma OR Fontaine. Which really sucks as a returner since every event has been there and I was really wanting some of those mini seelies but I can't get there in time for the event :/

As an AR 60 player who’s been playing for over 2 years, I’d say the answer is Yes AND No, for very different reasons:
Yes, because of the beautiful open world, great character designs, good story (after Inazuma), solid soundtrack,and novelty of the elemental reaction system.
No, because of the unfulfilling endgame content, terrible character balancing, awful Artifact progression system, and the clear lack of respect the developer has shown towards its players.

You can make platforms of ice with 4 kayas to cross the ocean to make to Inazuma faster (< lvl 30) . Rayden said: no no no babies you all gonna sink with my thunders lol

No. And I've realized that the moment 2024 started. I'm just so tired of hoyoverse being greedy asf to the point that they even sell half incomplete characters with terrible kits. Like y'all can go keep b*tching abt and defending the company, but it's about time they make better changes. Haven't yall noticed how every lil update still takes up SO much storage?? That's bc they keep adding useless sh*t,like tons of words/letters into the game that most players don't even care abt. We're just here to have fun and get the characters we need/want,i played this game bc i rlly wanted Wanderer and Tighnari,but till this day i still don't have Tighnari. This game is just pain,even if you get the characters you wanted for so LONG,there's still mf artifacts and mora you'll have to stress abt. Which unfair asf!! Bc they already nerf characters to not be too op,but then they don't even give us the correct artifacts we need,so for most of us genshin players,we can never truly be strong enough to 36 star the abyss. I also play just to see my characters do over 100k damage,but artifacts are just such an annoying thing to farm. Whoever came up with the artifacts system,i hope that they have the most horrible painfullest de@th EVER 😄
People should understand that, for playing Genshin you don't need exclusive weapons or characters, all you need is good 4 star character and weapons and Good set of artifacts.
And Genshin is a Marathon not an 100-2000m race.
I started playing genshin cause they got a PC version of the game since I dont have a phone that can handle this. My friends who are already playing genshin helped me through Co Op to get familiar with the game leveling up and elemental system.
I do experience burn out but if you pace the game it doesnt feel all that stressful
