iPad Pro M1 2021 vs iPad Pro 2020 – Genshin Impact: FPS Performance Test

Hey guys in this video I tested the new iPad Pro 12.9 inch model that’s equipped with the M1 chip and compared against the iPad Pro 2020 model equipped with the A12z chip. For this test, I used Genshin Impact application as my measurement tool. I not only tested the FPS performance of each of these devices, I also focused on the CPU and GPU power usage as well as Battery temperature. Check out end of video for results.

Update: For those who are curious about patch 1.6, based on Golden Reviewers research, the resolution for Genshin Impact has been increased to 2298X1605 at high, 1982X1384 at medium, 1528X1067 at low and 1385X967 at lowest. While android phones remain at 720p and iPhones at 800p at high resolution. Thus, this is the primary reason iPad Pro M1 users will experience more heat and potential throttling when playing for long durations at max settings. This test was done during patch 1.5.

Tech Jargon:

CPU – Central Processing Unit. The processor is the “brain” of a device. It’s what handles the instructions of software apps. All phones have a processor of some kind. it may be integrated into the main cell phone chip, or be a separate computer chip.

GPU – Graphics Processing Unit. The part of a device’s circuitry that handles the display and animation of visual elements. GPU usually handles all mobile gaming.

GeekBench 5 – is a cross-platform benchmark that measures your system’s CPU performance with the press of a button.

3DMark Wild Life Extreme – a more demanding cross-platform benchmark for comparing the graphics performance of mobile computing devices.

  1. Thank you for the video. I tried to run Genshi on M1 iPad today and I noticed that resolution seems to be way lower than on my 2018 iPad Pro. Changing it to max doesn't change anything. I also noticed in your video it is a bit pixelated, but not sure if it is due to YouTube compression. It seems like Genshin game is not recognizing m1 chip yet and forces certain settings down.

  2. The graphic look better on 2020 Ipad Pro 11 inch, please do the comparison between both 12.9 inch Ipad pro (2020 & 2021)

As I did a comparison video for Pubg mobile on both 11 ipad 2020 & 2021.
In the end, the 2021 Ipad m1 11 inch is still not fully optimized to run all games at the best graphic compared with 2020.

Not sure it happened on the 12.9 mini led model?

  3. Another great video! Your videos were always good, but over time they’ve improved even better in quality. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort in your videos, so thank you for that!
I see all of your requests from people in the comments and stuff, but I wonder if people realize how time consuming being a YouTube creator can be. So hopefully more people find out about your great videos so that your channel can blow up, and then you can make even more videos for us maybe full-time lol 😉

  10. Hi ,are there any phone/tablet devices that doesnt heat up easily and have good performance on genshin?
i usually play it on my desktop, and sometimes on my samsung note 9 which heat up pretty easily even with the lowest graphic setting.
Should i get ipad 2021 or wait for something better in the future like maybe a new Nintendo Switch for genshin?
