Well, the answer is actually that, WoW did do this.
But it was because the game was absolutely crap at the time and the story telling was so off-putting, that everyone completely forgot.
BFA guys, yes it was a time. But it was during BFA that they had released so many cinematic style stuff for Saurfang and the whole war between alliance and horde.
It hyped so many people up but it was all forgotten about because BFA was a crap expac.
