How Healers Went From "Useless" To The Most Important Supports In Genshin Impact

Healers were once considered a dead class in Genshin Impact back in the days when shields dominated the meta. But in recent times they’ve quickly become some of the most valuable characters in the game. Today we’ll be looking at the history of healers, and the rollercoaster ride they went through.

  1. Technically if you go with the theory that the pyro archon will be a super buffed bennett,I wouldn't be surprised if Murata comes out as a shielding damage buffer who provides a similar gimmick to Furina but instead the buff is inversed. In the sense that taking damage, especially with shields, provides a high percentage buff. This gives them both a unique place in teams which utilize shields and teams that utilize healing but also a shared spot on hypercarry teams in that they influence one another.

  2. I'm upset about how Mihoyo ruined shields that much. Shields were not that much overpowered, they were usable, but most characters used more healers than shielders, and the only good shielder was Zhongli. Now there are so many anti-shield mechanics, it's just frustrating.

  3. worst part about healers is the ones that are burst only AND you have to be in their aoe to receive healing

the best healers are the ones that summon a thing that heals you while that character is off field/has a burst that has a party wide heal

so basically qiqi and barbara are the best healers in the game. shinobu would be too but her burst is kinda useless

  4. Having Healers be incentivised through sustaining HP self-draining Main DPS characters, is a lot more fun than simply adding Elite enemies that either go through your shields (Rifthounds and Bathysmals) or get buffed from your shields (Shadowy Husks).

So what's next on their list?
Using Cryo and Freeze against Boss enemies, I guess?
Seems like they're experimenting this with the Suanni and Xuanwen Beasts.

  5. As a lyney main, we use zhongli in replace of kazuha for the stagger resistance and not the super-armor (since bennett heals you). Getting hit in the middle of a charged attack is a HUGE dps loss which is why zhongli is really good in his teams. Yes, on paper kazuha brings increases your damage more, but in practice Zhongli is on par with kazuha in that sense.

  6. if you wanted to make shields equivalent to healing just come out with a set that turns shield amount into a tangible offensive buff, better yet do what star rail does granted its a simulated universe buff. Take a shield value you and convert it to x is still a very easy way to make them equivalent. For example it would be cool if there was an artifact set much like in star rail how you can use energy ropes or planar ornaments to increase your energy regen. if you made lets say a shield artifact set that collectively increased everyones energy by how much damage the shield takes or when it dissapears convert that number over to a particle generation amount shields would be viable again. it would also help out characters that tend to enjoy shielders but have battery issues to make building them cozier. AKA baizhu and cyno's relationship with cyno needing energy or an old classic diona batterying the main cryo unit who is starved with energy….

  7. To be fair, i don't like the perception that healers were ever useless. This is very much a perspective promulgated by the whale or low spender meta. As a casual f2p player, my hu tao, even through zhongli's shield absolutely needed her burst's healing when three spiral abyss maguu kenki's were beating down on her and her skill was eating into her hp bar and raiden needed benny's healing. Sure, while i didn't wazte a party slot on a pure healer like qiqi after my characters were built, the healing mechanic was absolutely crucial.
For those without geo daddy, it was even more necessary to use a dedicated healer.

Healing and was never useless, it just seemed that way because the only voices we heard were whales/dolphins and hardcore f2p players. If you were a casual f2p player, the majority, you needed atleast one dedicated healer since there was only one bennet and if you didn't have zhongli

  8. 1) My bet is that they don't want another 5* shielder because any other element would make Zhongli not the best choice in his expertise. Since geo is so niche another element would probably be more effective

    2) I was always a big fan of healers, one of the reasons I used to main Dori, so see them having the spotlight is very nice

Edit: I am aware of Baizhu's shielding, but I firmly believe that it works more as to stop stagger (or however you say this word) then to shield

  9. Cool thing about poise damage, certain elemental reactions can amplify this damage, and enemies also have unique instances of poise damage resistance as well.

For instance, Overload or Shatter deal amplified poise damage, with the former capable of launching enemies that do not have launch immunity. Shields negate this quite a bit, but it is still possible for characters to be staggered by an Overload reaction even while Shielded (the shield must break by the damage caused for this to occur). Klee and Jean's charge attacks also have intrinsically high poise damage, capable of launching and juggling even Lawachurls and Kairagi.

Certain attacks like weak spots and Pneumia/Ousia attacks inflict special instances of poise damage on relevant enemies, and no poise damage in other instances.

Of all enemies, the elemental cubes (except Geo and Cryo), Andrius, Azdaha, Apep, La Signora, the Electro and Hydro Oceanid, and the Fontaine/Inazuma Mech bosses are all immune to external sources of poise damage. Every other enemy in Genshin can be staggered in one way or another.

  10. 15 years ago, I made a written list of what I think are the best Super Moves in video game. #1, I put ANY Healing spell because they can be the difference between life and death. I still stand by that. When I started playing Genshin, I wasn't a newbie player to the world of RPGs, I was brining in over 20+ years of experience in and you can imagine my relief when I saw there were healers in the game. I had already had a shield user in Noelle (who I still use btw), so when I got Barbara, I was like, "Thank goodness." While I do have better healers than here now like Baizhu and Xianyun (sp?), I will still use Barbara for Thunderbloom (and healing) at times. I wanted a healer on my team from the get-go simply because of how I play and I always feel more relaxed when I have a healer and shield user on my team.

On the shielding side, it be cool if we get an Electro Shield user because when Natlan comes around, we have our Pyro archon and I think her + plus an electro shield user would be awesome combo because I got this picture of the Pyro archon bulldozing with Overload reaction lol.
