  1. For anyone watching please note that Hoyoverse never condoned the use of AI voice acting. There has been only one case of AI voice acting with Hi3 and that was done with permission of the original CN VA who was dealing with sickness.

In an interview, Hoyoverse themselves say they never use AI for creative purposes. AI has only been used to help in programming and that's it.

Games like Genshin is marginally affected because of the studio (Formosa) that is working with Hoyoverse not being able to fully comply with the rules (Formosa Interactive doesn't use AI tho as far as I'm aware). Games like ZZZ and HSR are completely unaffected as they are casted by different studios.

(Fun fact, ZZZ's voice acting studio is run by Furina's VA, and she's the voice director).

  2. It's so shitty, like Bran said, VA's are not that expensive but the companies don't care because AI doesn't have to be perfect, it only needs to be ok so they can start "cutting costs".

  3. The problem here again, they maybe not going to hired more VA for another language. Yeah maybe they going to pay more for another language version. But they not going to hired a VA for a another version language.

  4. No one asked for A.I. voice. First, it's artist's works being used to train generative AI, then some movies being generated by AI, and AI USING REAL VA's VOICES WITHOUT THEIR FKING CONSENT?!?! THIS IS SO UNFAIR! It's like big companies don't care about what we want or like. And I agree that the quality output to use ai voices in games are gonna be bad and it can ruin real VAs livelihood and career. And we love the natural and realistic emotions that display the character's personality.

If it's an AI generated voice, it would sound unatural and awkward, and people will sue companies for not using real VAs in their most successful games or media.

This is the reason why VAs are striking against companies who are using their voices to train AI without consent.

We support real VAs, real people! Not companies using generative AI to replace VAs!

  5. 18:46 So CyYu has a VOD out on his channel called "My Last Time Playing Genshin Impact" where he goes over the strike and how it affects him and his role as not only a voice actor but also a streamer. In the VOD he's says that he's only striking Genshin Impact because it's recording studio is on the list of companies to strike and that he won't be streaming it. However, because Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero work with different recording studios, he's able to stream those as they aren't affected by the strike. He also now has a video out where he made his own video game strike list that's like two hours long called "Making My Personal Video Games Strike List."

  6. Some people still don't understand that using genAI for anything even without profit and "for fun" is part of the demand that allows that system to keep going, be developed and funded.
Developers don't care what for you're generating stuff and whether you're making money or not, they care that you're using their service and therefore it's okay to keep stealing works, exploiting artists and violating copyright and privacy laws to get those services working.

Just don't use AI generators and don't consume ai generated content, it's unhetical on all fronts.

  7. Unionizing is too communist for Americans and big companies. Sigh … Union busting is still very widespread in America. I hope the actors and VAs will come to the realisation that a union is the best way at the moment to take care of their rights.

  8. Read a very true comment on AI not long ago: I want AI to do my dishes and laundry, so I can do my art and fun stuff, not for AI to do my art, so I can do my dishes and laundry.

  9. To be honest as long as the spoken intensity of the spoken dialogues matches the given situation I don't really care if it's ai or not. I never understood the VA hype where people go bonkers and would even pay money for characters just because their VA's are voiced someone in another game/anime. I can't even name one VA if my life dependet on it.

That aside I don't see AI in it's current state being able to replicate context and situation sensitive emotions and intensity just yet. The quality is simply not there yet. I mean at least for the most part. VA's like the one's Bethesda are hiring on the regular for example can be completely replaced by AI in my humble opinion but games like Genshin? No freakin Way AI is able to reach that. Until then I prefer humans so I'm team VA's I guess. I mean I am hyped about the idea of finally being able to play games in really dynamically changing and breathing worlds since I was a kid. That's something that'll only be possible with AI. But…can we please skip the stupid idea to not even PAY people like VA's royalties or something like that? Can we maybe not screw them over to an extend they'll get nothing at all or pay them so little it's not even worth talking about?

  10. I said this under Joe's video and I will say it again: this video is not only informative and well put together, it's also incredibly well-written.

Like, excuse me, I heard the part at 23:06 and had to pause and take a break because that line hit me like a truck (as someone who's well-educated and likes to talk about social issues but got pulled into those Twitter mobs against their will).

Can't wait for your talk with Joe, hope I can catch the stream 😢

  11. Why couldn't just most companies do it the way Yamaha/Crypton/Piapro and many VOCALOID manufacturers. These companies trains their AI/technology with consent and even WITH the voice producers and are being paid throughout the contract, and even after the recordings their names are still credited for the characters, vocaloid has been there for years but we never really heard any issues like these… if these big companies managed to do it, why can't the others?

  12. Me who's a dum dum with these kinds of topics, I still don't get "strike" and stuff. But if it means that AI will take over VAs and take their jobs, nahh Im with the VAs. AI voice overs sucks anyways.

  13. Okay is the AI voice situation only pertaining to English VA? If so then I think Hoyo won’t do anything because we are not on the monthly charts for sales. Ex. Japan, China are one of its top places that so they’ll listen more to them that America or UK. If it affects all the VA’s from Japan Korea America and China then this will definitely be addressed. Cuz right only the English VA’s are speaking out from what I can find

  14. I have just come back and now there's more controversy going around the gaming industry, and it making me confused, can anyone clarify if I have the correct information?😅

Multiple Eng VA keeps on getting repeatedly remove or canceled in games due to controversies surrounding their personal life and political views.

Eng VA companies such as SAG-AFTRA already have plans to use AI technology to copy Eng VA to cut cost without their consent, and due to the western or Eng VA always getting in a controversy.

Natlan preview triggered the Twitter army due to their so called racsm and no diversity of a fictional game, in which they called in or treten western VA, influencer, and fans to join their boycot or get canceled.

Sweet Baby Inc also joined in the boycot or was behind, as it is now blakmailng Mihoyo to hire them for millions of dollars to give them advice how to properly be woke or modern by their words.

Western or Eng VA joined in the boycot to protect their rights for their job, and peer pressure to not be attcked online, but they just want the Eng Agency that hired them to improved their work ethics as they repeatedly delayed payments and due to AI.

The boycot is failing due to one reason is that the US or western playerbase not being the majority of the gamer to bring any effect, as sweet baby inc and twitter failed to meet their demands, the Eng VA are also affected due to joining the boycot downfall but they have a diffrent demand and reasonable request..

  15. i feel like the ONLY thing i'd be alright with, is A.I being used so characters can say your username instead of just "traveler" when they're speaking to you. obviously this would be hard to implement, and it'd only be right if every actor consented for their voices to be used and paid for it, but i feel as if though it's a good middle ground.

  16. CyYu has said he's been advised not to stream any Hoyoverse game, even if HSR and ZZZ weren't produced by Formosa…so that's why he's basically playing any game but Hoyoverse games (otherwise you know he'd have already done HSR's 2.4 update)

Streamers who also voice are different from normal streamers. If you stream Genshin, it's fine. If they stream Genshin, it's promotion, thus basically crossing the picket line…

  17. I love how AI is also being revealed to be a money sink lately. Nobody asked for it and even better, it’s dog shit and doesn’t turn a profit, which was the goal for the companies behind language models

  18. It's a problem for en voices, the JP seiyuu will never have to fear the AI, they have too many fans that won't stay put if something like that would rob them of the pleasure of listening to their favourite voices. You read on yt "Houhou voice replaced", but it's only about en voice, and there is no buzz about it, if they changed, for example, Raiden's JP seiyuu (Sawashiro Miyuki) the next WW would begin, not only because she's one of the best in the entire anime/gaming landscape, but because that'd become a precedent, and that is even worse.

  19. 3:34 yes, I have adhd tendencies, can confirm, it allows me to understand what is needed, crutial, and important in a short little skit, it might sound bad, but for a small does of info I can just take it, but for something like this, it helps understand what is actually going on as well
