  1. 4.0-4.2, fontaine story, is basically a whole reference to a lot of things in the bible.
Noah's arc, original sin (Adam and Eve), 7 cardinal sins, (Pneuma, Ousia and Arkhe which = ancient Greek themes), Homoousion, probably jesus christ too, and so on.
And actually, the 7 archons alternate names, Barbatos, morax, Beelzebub, Baal, etc, are named after "ars goetia, so thats pretty cool.

    – Archon is the Greek word that means ruler in ancient Athens, and they're technically a pseudo-God in Genshin because the real "Gods" are in Heaven called Celestia; they're still called a "God" in the game so you can technically call them by both titles because while the Archon rule over humans, the actually Gods in the sky rule over the world.

    – Heavenly principles are the Gods who oversee the world of Teyvat, are above the archons, and they reside in a floating island that nobody can get to.

To avoid confusion, Genshin story is based on Gnosticism/Syzygy, demiurge/Judaism, christianity, greek, and norse mythology for the major lore and the world creation of the game.

So I really like that you guys brought up the gods in God of war because Genshin's "heavenly principles", tho not Archons, are potentially characters from Olympus in Greek mythology, or are acting like one.
And just like the Greek gods, they like to hand out harsh punishments on small things.
Just for an example, before the game, because the 8th nation was made out of nowhere and without an archon… Celestia controlled the 7 archons to destroy the 8th nation, khaenri'ah, only because it was a nation that has no god/archon and was built by people alone from their hard work.

This nation had already gone extinct before the current game and the people were turned into ageless monsters and they're… ofc, an enemy in the game lol.

  2. About Neuvillette.
Contrary to the former belief based on from his appearance (cold, stoic, and strict), Neuvillette is really one of the most (IF NOT), the most gentle, kind, and most polite character in Genshin Impact. (he got a hold of my heart)

He is the judge if the justice system in the region of Fontaine, so he definitely see a lot of the bad from humans.

But even then, he remains distant from other because he doesn't want to cloud his judgement, if the time ever comes when he has to judge them….

He's such a great character; personally, lore, story. He's amazing, and is very loved my most of the fan base (even ones who don't like him, they acknowledge that he's still a well written character)

But anyways, this is all I'll say about him. He's not my favorite (Tartaglia is) but he's up there for the favorites.

  3. Furina has some of the BEST character writing in the whole game. If you guys have a chance to play the 4.2 archon quest I really urge you to. One of the first quests to make me emotional 😭

  4. the gods in Genshin can be killed but like you said that doesn't seem like a good thing and it isn't

the point is that the gods in Genshin are not like a "race", they are not born gods they become one

In Genshin, all someone needs to become a god is to have power and to become an archon they have to be chosen

for example in the game there is a god who is a dragon another who is a wind spirit and another who is basically a dryad, they have nothing in common but these three are gods nonetheless

  5. I recall during the summer carefully considering what I'd expect to find in Fontaine. On the assumption that if I'm going to intuitively understand any chapter of this game's plot it would be Hydro's I started by asking myself, "So, I'm the new Hydro Archon. I have a clear understanding of what the situation was like at the time of my ascension, and I have a pretty good idea of how things will develop into the present day, backed by a feed of divine understanding and supporting knowledge. Based on the Dendro Archon considering me intelligent, I am, and can be considered rational. Therefore, I had a very good reason for spending five centuries carefully cultivating a persona as the court jester; somebody to attract all gaze, be appreciated and liked, but never truly respected. What was it?" I ended up with two possibilities, picked what in retrospect was the less mature choice (still would have liked to see it), but came close. Catharsis here… which is the point in more than one sense. This storyline doesn't break the fourth wall, but you might say it hangs a mirror on it because a picture wouldn't be enough.

Because the topic has come up, the approximate in-setting definition of a god is a sapient nexus point for the world's elemental energies, which autonomously filters and "tints" them while also having conscious desire and influence; worship in its various forms affects a god as well. Both gods and humanity antedate a previous age of Teyvat; humans were outright created but by a being who within these rules was not a god and whose nature and present state is a bit nebulous. Gods seem to have followed along, which may have been intentionally planned as the world would likely have badly broken without them. There were a few hundred gods in Teyvat, some good, some bad, and a lot just big animalistic beings, when somebody else stepped in and came up with the "Archon system": a way to give one god of each of the seven elements access to what's basically a combination vast library of information about the world and quantum computer capable of researching ways to use godly power to create outright miracles. This did not instantly trigger some grand "there can be only one" fight to the death among the gods… which is why what is now called the Archon War covered at least a thousand years. Not all of the remaining gods died (some found ways to basically escape the bounds of the conflict), and those that did die aren't exactly gone as it isn't just humans who can leave ghosts, but the world was just getting to a point when the remaining non-archon gods were all pretty at peace with the final arrangement five hundred years ago. Then Khaenri'ah happened. We have absolutely no reliable sources for who exactly was at the fall of Khaenri'ah, what they were all there to do, or in fact how many sides there were to the fight, but most of the remaining gods and some of the new archons died there or afterwards trying to contain the consequences. The Archon system is a bit self-sustaining and provides a way for new gods to ascend; most of the Seven who survived the Archon War have since been replaced.

So you can see why the idea of the populace killing their god is both thematically relevant to Fontaine's design origins in France and might not be an anathema concept to the society. A new Hydro Archon would come along sooner or later. …As far as they know.

  6. one thing Hoyo likes to do is mislead in their trailers… sometimes they'll use voicelines from different scenes in order to throw us off! I guess the only way to know the truth of justice is simply to play through the story haha

  7. What's interesting about the ruling gods (the Archons) is that they all have secondary names which are demons, most of the from The Lesser Key of Solomon. Venti (Anemo Archon) is Barbatos, Zhongli (Geo Archon) is Morax, Ei/Raiden Shogun (Electro Archon) is Beelzebul, Makoto (Ei's passed twin and previous Electro Archon) was Baal, Nahida (Dendro Archon) is Buer, and Furina (Hydro Archon) is Focalors. We also can't forget our mysterious traveling companion who's name is simply "Paimon".

  8. Great story, a tragic one but still a great story that does have a "happy" ending. As for the melusines think of them as black folks during segregation a bit rough to sit through but it too was well told.

  10. The storyline in the 4.2 archon quest was so heartbreaking, its been 9 days after I finished the quest and I'm still mentally scarred to this day, also this one has of the biggest lore.

  11. All the videos you have reacted to are just meant for marketing not really for understanding the story and characters. That being said a way to do a deeper Genshin Impact dive is to look at lore YouTubers or ones that do world building thearies like Ashakai. She also does the patch recap too

  12. If one of the seven gods are kill a new one will be born of the type that was killed. Example of this is that if the wind god is kill, after some time a new one will be born to replace the dead one.

  13. 10:50 it is indeed the case, you CAN kill a god, but it has severe consequences in the immediate vicinity of the god.
Spoilers to anyone who hasn't done Zhong Li story quest, you have been warned:

Long story short, in the days of Archon War, there was one gentle, but weak god, Havria, the God of Salt, was betrayed by her people she sworn to protect because her people concluded she was too weak to protect them, and decided to end her in their sick, twisted perceived kindness.
But killing a god isn't as simple as killing another living being. A god, no matter how weak, is still a god, and the ensuing energy blast from a god's death prove catastrophic in the vicinity. The shockwave basically turned everyone into salt, killing them all but scant few who managed to escape the blast radius. When we entered the special domain for the quest, we can see various humanoid sculpture made from salt from the entrance all the way to the ground zero. The story is pretty sad, the ending left a bittersweet taste, and gave us an insight into how horrible the Archon War was.

Oh and it WILL make you cry. More than once, believe me!
And then La Vaguelette happens…. dear God….save me from all these emotions! 😭

Fontaine is one of the best archon quest ever! It's really heartbreaking to know how much Furina suffered. She really deserve the best…. 😭😭😭😭

How about you guys react to cinematic cutscenes as well.

  16. To give out a spoiler-free-esque idea: 4.2 is not really centered about killing a god but rather masquerading something. As the trailer have mentioned, there's deception involved and it's pretty much a very important event in the game's story and, should I say, history.

I can't wait for the both of you to experience the stories first hand since I'm pretty sure you'll love Genshin's story. These trailers are a bit misleading at time but for 4.2, it's literally perfect since they didn't have to mislead, they simply hid the magnificence of the story itself reaaally well in the trailer.

  17. You basically guessed it right. The secret and the answer are in the name of the patch – a masquerade of the guilty. That is, all the guilty wear masks. The trailer says that all people will be judged. Here is the answer.
