Twitter has been blowing up recently with people up in arms over issues in Genshin Impact. In this video I will go over the problems/concerns that are addressed as well as give my input on the subject matter and viewpoints from MiHoYo. I do not work for MiHoYo but I can speak on perspective from being a Chinese person on the subject matter.

I hope this covers the subject well enough and I voiced my thoughts without offending anyone. I do think we are going too far. That being said, it would be nice for MiHoYo to address this at the very least and say something, anything. There needs to be more communication with the community before people start giving up on the game.

I mean, this whole outrage is hilarious. The dark-skin characters are NOT underwhelming, and the dancing is just an art reference, no one is discriminating the indigenous.
Stop looking for a bone in an egg! Those outraging people, mostly who think they are being implied, are feeling hurt is because they are not confidence in theirselves and thinking too much.
No, it's not "China is not like the rest of the world", it's the opposite: USA is not like the rest of the world, there are about 200 countries in the world, so 199 are not the USA.
Americans like to think they are the center of the world and that the whole world should bow down to THEIR culture and THEIR history, particularily these SJW weirdos. it's quite disgusting.
My american friends, I love you, but not everyone in the world had White-only water fountains and on the subject of Native-Americans, most countries are not colonies. That's YOUR history, not ours.
Also, you say that China is not educated in racism. First, that sounds a little pretentious, but the important point here is that you don't need to be "educated" on a topic that doesn't concern you. Do americans need to be educated on buddhism? On Corsica history? on russian culture in Ukraine? Iran government history? french secularism? no.
I don't want to be the anti-america guy but come on, it's well known across the world that americans are the uneducated ones and although this is not new, it's become a meme at this point that the USA bombs countries that the american people can't even place on a map.
If I wanted to sound like a troll, I'd say I'm not taking lessons on civilization from a country that routinely decides to bomb other Nations and murder civilians. Nations that, again, the majority of americans can't place on a map.
You asked us to like the video if we wanted to hear more on those subject. I don't. I don't even care about your politics, that's not why I come here. You said that Mihoyo should apologize. No, they shouldn't. You should never apologize to SJWs because to them it's not about sensitivity or Justice, it's about harvesting "likes" but more importantly it's about power. And they always want more.
How much do you want to bet that none of these people actually play Genshin anyway…
Another one?
Atsu made a good thread regarding this and I can honestly say that I totally agree with him.
SJW drama queens bullshit. Reporting it is already giving them way too much of the attention they crave for. No need to feed the troll.
Anything outrageous, is insignificant (Talleyrand).

"artist use dance reference"
twittard: OmG HiLiChurlZz aRe iNdigEnoUS pEoPle!!!11!!
who do you think offended more? the artist just used a real life dance as inspiration or the twittards that actually thought that indigenous people are hilichurls?
I really wished GI didn't boomed so much it went mainstream. Now, we have a lot of bandwagons who want to change the game in favor for themselves. It's way more peaceful back in GGZ and Honkai, nothing compared to what we have now with their new game GI and its current community. The gacha game is just being a gacha game, and yes, it is a "game", and don't confuse fantasy with reality, they are 2 different things. Otherwise, you are the problem. Besides, it's nothing new. Additionally, people should realize that those people in Mihoyo are working too. As much as it is obvious, the workers need to get paid as well and money is needed to make more and better content. Believe it or not, it doesn't matter, Game development is not an easy and cheap job and that's a fact. So, I wish these people stop. i'm not even trying to defend Mihoyo specifically, but this ordeal is more or less a disrespect to every game developers out there who just want to make their vision into a game. Really? before it was @/boycottgenshin, now @/dobettermihoyo, like wtf? there is nothing more hypocritical than that. These twitter users doesn't even realize they are starting to cross the line, or maybe they already did, and its becoming too disturbing at this point.
As a black boi, i think some people are just a little too sensitive. I'm not defending them but let the underage and racial thing slide, cause its just a videogame . However i think the predatoriness of the gacha system should better be addressed for minors as well as the 2FA.
8:36 No, Mihoyo should not apologize to those Twittards. If Mihoyo apologizes I will be distraught.
bruh at this point twitter is dogsht
As a South East Asian, whenever I see Twitter outrage like this I just go, "There goes the imperialist west again, insisting that their problems my problems." People are still dying on the streets for no good reason, and we're supposed to care about microaggressions that aren't even existing on our context or culture? Get some perspective.
Prepare your popcorn boys
Basically, your whole point was that they used animations from real world? That's what's triggering players?
I feel sorry for these players then. It's so stupid that I'm speechless. I generally don't support the company in a community-company argument, but in this case, I don't think the company should apologise. People need to grow out of their insecurities and sensitivities. If you feel bad about a game copying animations from real world, then you basically reject the whole gaming industry. Every game uses real world aspects, storylines, cultures, communities, as a way to become an engaging and relatable experience. You don't like the story, stop gaming altogether. Stop complaining if you are not enjoying it. Go find something else to do, what you find joy in. Don't ruin the experience for other players.
i am really looking forward to ur explanation regarding the culture of china. I hope you'll make thst video!
Lets just agree the game should be EU Asia ME severs based games because its always a fucking western people who start this drama
To add on to what you said: China as a whole is pretty monolithic with the vast majority(like 99%) being Hans Chinese so there is little exposure or even knowledge regarding other race and cultures, as compared to a country like the United States where itâs more diverse. With that and the fact that Genshin has reached international acclaim, its not surprising that the various portrayal in the games may not aligned with an broader audience. A statement from MHY can work, and I can see how they could change this by either 1. Instead of basing it on indigenous tribes from the United States, take aspiration and referencing it from the Nuo Dance from Jiangxi,China(a dance used to dispel evil spirits, fitting with the supposed theory of hilichurl orgins, offers parallel with Xiaoâs ritualistic performance of Evil Conquering, and not offend Western cultures) and/or 2. Give an actual reason for why they dance as they do(going back to the theory that hilichurls once were humans cursed by the alchemist Gold and Celestia). Build the lore of the significance and importance of these dance/offerings(the quests with Ella Musk and the book on Hilichurl cultures were great but can be expanded further), progress the story so the hilichurls arenât just random mobs(they arenât, but we need actual confirmation, actually the next quest with the abyss herald may have some revelation on Khanreah, our sibling and hilichurls) and develop the backstory of their fate so we can contextualize the motives for these behaviors(I love reading the different books but bringing it to the main quest would clarify a lot of things). With the lore and world building this game already shows, I donât think they just randomly assigned them these different dance for no reason, and I think further contexts and clarification along the story can clear up the misunderstanding.
The idea that MHY paints all dark skinned people with certain negative traits is simply untrue. For one, not every dark skinned character in the game has to be perfect, just as not every white character in the game has to be perfect. The dark skinned characters are portrayed with negative traits and have jokes made at their expense, as do all the white characters in the game. Every single playable character in the game, period, has a variety of flaws. That's not targeted racism, that's just character writing that's completely consistent regardless of race. Additionally, the game features a character called Vennessa in numerous books collectable in game as well as in their official manga. She is firstly dark skinned and descended from a line very clearly based off real life indigenous people, and she also held enormous political power and is never depicted as sly, or with any negative traits whatsoever for that matter, and garners large amounts of reverence from the citizens of the country she once was in charge of. Anyone claiming MHY seeks to paint all dark skinned and indigenous characters a certain way simply hasn't done enough research.
As for the hilichurls being based off indigenous people, there might be a point to be made if all the villains in the game were a very clear attack on a certain ethnicity. This is not the case. The Tsaritsa and the Harbingers? Russian, yet this is not an attack on Russians since it's clear MHY tries to make Childe as likable as possible. The genocidal Celestian overseers? To our best guesses, loosely mirrored off of the Greek gods given the architectural style we see in everything Celestian. Even the totalitarian archon relentlessly chasing immortality is Japanese, a culture MHY has clearly shown reverence for in the past. If MHY truly designs their villains in such a way to target indigenous people, why the inconsistencies?
The fact is that the game just features villains of multiple races and heroes of multiple races. The case can't be that MHY's seeking to paint certain races or ethnicities in a certain manner, since every race that a villain belongs to also has a written hero belonging to it.
No no no, DO NOT apologize to the Twitter mob. There is nothing to apologize for. When I started playing Genshin, I was glad it was a Chinese company because I was sure it wouldn't kneel to political correctness. Don't disappoint me MiHoYo.
Actually some of the hillichurl words are the same as Indonesian language, although different meanings. đ
they should do like in-game pins for extra security, easier than 2FA, and usually works
no one cares about these issues if they don't like the game simple don't play it!
Walrus keeping us informed like a boss!
Just my opinion: Twitter is rapidly becoming the new Facebook: a dying platform where boomers bitch about politics. I dropped both years ago, myself.
4:05 and that is an outright false statement China is not a âsecond-worldâ country. Also while I can acknowledge that the use of indigenous peoples is just artistic influence and the whole thing about Xinyan is stupid, Twitter as a whole is retarded. China is culturally pretty racist, they donât like black people and have a generally negative perspective of them also traditionally in China having darker skin is seen as quality of being poor. So while Twitter is idiotic, China as a whole does have cultural racism problem. Aside from all that when the hell are we gonna get 2FA? And yeah the gacha rates have always been dogshit, anyone who defends the gacha (or any gacha game for that matter) in this game is a smooth-brain.
Twitter is a joke specially those who try to cancel popular trend. The toxicity lvl in that app is just laughable anything in that app is not to take serious specially cancel culture. No Racial or any of that BS is in Genshin like the problem of this people must be leftist, SJW bullcrap of a people has started this nonsense
western makes more racist game than anything lol
I already stop spending money in Genshin. No point chasing wind and hope it becomes better. If mihoyo is really serious. The game should be good already and not sitting back and wait for people to complain. Back to grinding in Wild Rift đ
for the racist claims that said mihoyo has done why do they have to apologize? when so many games created in the western are more racist than genshin? yes genshin is predatory to say the lease but the other nonsense claim that probably came from SJW, Leftist Libtards are nothing to apologize for This people are the one who even tried to dig up this issues about racism while majority of the playerbase havent notice this for the past months.
100% agree. I noticed people tend to take extreme stances on the issue and they either go full on offended without understanding the circumstances and the context in which it was made or pretend there is no issue at all and disregard the importance of proper rep in general ('what next? pEoPLe IdenTiFyING aS tReES?')… which gives you a good idea of what kind of people they are, really.
and I find it very ironic how the exact same people would immediately jump to that weird conclusion that Xinyan is being perceived as scary because of her skin colour, like Kaeya is being perceived as exotic for the same reason. That's like, a textbook definition of racism, and sounds like a them problem, not the design/lore problem (which they probably didn't bother to familiarise themselves with or just pretend not to see).
on top of that we slavic people always end up being portrayed as evil Russian mafia/cult (even though there are so many other slavic countries and our culture is quite diverse) and Snezhnaya is a straight up weirdo barbarian country with how it's described as cold and crude (come on, its name literally means 'snowy'), and need I remind you kids are being taught nursery rhymes about chopping off your fingers if you break a pinkie promise (honestly, I don't mind that, I'm aware it's not supposed to be an accurate representation and I found it quite amusing and fun, but you know, the bottom line is if you look hard enough you'll always find something to get offended by)? but apparently we're not allowed to talk about it, because we're white.
at the end of the day no human creation is perfect and there's always something to improve. I'm not denying what mihoyo did with the hilurchurls is kinda problematic due to the sensitive history, but them people on twitter participating in cancel culture instead of being mature about it and showing their ignorance regarding how things work in China and how they think American standards and ideas apply to the rest of the world is, well, equally problematic tbh.
Genshin its a pretty good game. I have played many other games but I have not seen one so greedy where you pay 100-200$ for a 3d character model. With 100$ you can get any game you want. Anyway im spending my time in genshin for the moment. When Tower of Fantasy or Blue Protocol come im gonna go there. No gacha bs and no over the top prices, no resin system that can limit my playtime.
i stopped playing there's to many issues and no content, i like exploring the world, if there nothing left to explore then there's no point in playing
most social media is blocked in China anyways, there's so much censorship
"china is not educated in racism" seems legit
Klee is looking at me she wants my primo time to bring out meh card boi
I donât think itâs wrong to refer an existing way of dancing. Some people are way overreacting and can get offended too easily.
I dont think we need to hear out the cries of Portland arsonists
who kills Asians in America
