Exploring Fontaine and Chenyu vale has been great, genuinely better than both Sumeru and Inazuma imo, and the characters have also been getting better, the story and writing has become better, however I agree that events have become dull.
When they changed their motto from "Tech Otakus Save The World" to "Travel Across Hoyoverse", that was kind of like a silent confirmation that this company's changed. Their philosophy with Genshin seems to be Minimum effort Maximum profit. They've stopped trying with this game because it'll still print money like crazy regardless of if they tried or not. HSR seems to be their golden child now where they keep their best foot forward while still getting that $$$
Tbh people who stick with Genshin through the ups and downs, and more downs are the reason why Genshin is in such a state. Hoyo cared at least in the first few months of the game then the 1st anniversary came and Hoyo saw the potential that Genshin players would stick with the game no matter what, that's the moment they said screw it they'd milk the players dry every time anyways so why even bother.
We are now in a point in time where Genshin players can be classified into 3 major types those who are a hostage of sunk cost, fanatics that would deny that the game's state isn't bad and would defend the game to the bitter end, and lastly players that do quit only to jump ship to another Hoyo game like HSR and/or ZZZ.
Players that like and support Genshin despite everything pretty much 100% deserve whatever Genshin throws our way, it is what it is.
I'd argue about Character Story Quets a tiny bit Most of them are mid but Baizhu's and Clorinde's were fantastic out of the more recent ones Neuvillette's Story Quest was good (at least that's how people feel to me it was fine) Furina's Story Quest had an amazing La vaguellette cutscene but really mishandled. It could've been much better but they sadly ruined it so I can't really recommend it as a good Story Quest due to how MC and Paimon treat Furina like piece of shit. But aside from that it's one of the better ones. But yeah there's so much room for improvement and I feel you. I just accepeted that HoYo hates Genshin for some reason but put all of the good stuff into HSR and ZZZ which is frustrating as hell. I hoped WuWa would make them do something but in the end the new changes although sound nice aren't as good as they could've been. Resin buff is pathetic and barely affected me as a player who never lets their resin to overcap (90% of the time) but at least the QoL changes in 4.8 sound nice. But even then it's not enough. Genshin has a lot of issues that devs just refuse to fix for some reason. I find the exploration fun although overly simplistic. Fontaine was hands down the best Open World experience in the game so far excluding the Petrichor and Remuria, they looked nice visually and all but it was not enough and felt too short. It took me way less time than the rest of Fontaine to complete them and that sucked cuz I love this region the most. Not to mention that Sumeru port that was added alongside Petrichor had NO CHESTS. It's so greedy and lazy. Now all I can do is hope that they add Mont Esus as an explorable expansion someday. Aside from that the only things that are good about the game are lore, Archon Quests and of course characters. Gameplay aka Combat system is really fun and has a cool concept but is very underdeveloped and the game has poor balance. I am stuck in a limbo where my team is too strong for open world and not polished enough for Abyss. Thus I can't really enjoy the game and use my characters on appropriate level unless I go ham with Abyss (what I am already striving for) cuz Imaginarium Theater sucks ass. I think the only valid way to actually MAKE HoYo work hard is to boycott Genshin. Not just give them 1 star rating on App Store but ALSO stop buying ANYTHING. Sadly that's not possible since the player base is too huge and not very open minded and full of children as well. Also there will always be Whales that just can't resist selling their kidney for a C6 waifu. So frankly it's a very sad case cuz I don't see HoYo making Genshin feel MUCH better any time soon. Greed also ruins this game for obvious reasons. i played genshin less than a month, and i know how it will end. human has brain to see a pattern, you can see how on year 2 they didn let me use skip button or endgame excessive anxiety. what funny is, there are other game than genshin at that time.. just not open world + gacha. and these people had genshin as their first anime game, that the problem.
I am sorry for my poor English. I start play genshin with 3.8 so i do not know better than older players. I do not plan to play any other HOYO games rest of my life, i play still genshin because i am f2p and i grind so much even i do a lot of hidden quests and achievements, i put a lot of effort and time to it. I have guarantee to get 5 star limited character and i am on 30-40pity, i have to spare pulls to get Favonius Lance and i roll 30-40 pulls on current weapon banner but i didn’t get, I have not a single copy of Favonius lance, and everyday artifact domains spit to my face. I was watching Tectone before zzz release and he suddenly open zzz official release promotional stream to react. I do not plan to play zzz and i do not care to stream either but i say myself, screw it, lets watch, what it happens. Somewhere begining of stream game developer say “everyones favorite skip button” , this feels me bad, hoyo know what playerbase ask or needs but still refuse the implement in genshin. I tried to get into ZZZ but the game won't even allow me to re-bind the 'P' key (I play left handed OKL; instead of WASD) and that's my 'E', so every fight I fat finger 'P' and it brings up a damn guide at least once every 30 seconds- it's unplayable, and after a week of reporting the issue, they still don't care…. Took them a year in HSR to fix a similar issue where regardless of customized keybinds it defaulted in-game-combat controls to WASD I played nothing but Auto until then.
First, Id argue that Fontaine had the worst story. Remember, this is a quest where they moved a giant house under a lake, flood a region that is a higher elevation than the surrounding area but no where else floods and the Traveler claims Furina is cursed and everyone just kind of buys it. The truth though is Genshin’s revenue has been declining for a while. The reason they are giving less pulls is so many players saved during the later parts of Sumeru during the year of make banners. Now, people aren’t rolling anywhere near how they used to and they have to solve that. I expect the reason for unvoiced events and smaller areas was due to Natlan taking more of the budget. A lot of people left in 4.2 and it’s likely due to the bait and switch with Furina. Her rerun is already below every other archon’s. If you are wondering why all the Natlan characters look weird, why Iansan looks out of place and why 60% of the trailer was about the Pyro archon, that’s why. I Suspect they redid the entire region and its characters which is why 4.6 and 4.8 have such small regions compared to 3.6 and 3.8
MHY no longer has to try making content for Genshin's adult playerbase because all the adults already jumped ship to HSR (Ex. Jade) and Wuthering Waves

Everything you said is spot on, Soul, but I think you left out one gripe although it's directly related to what you said by mentioning how you can farm artifacts in WuWa and not having endgame content. The resin system is totally limiting and new players literally cannot play genshin without 1-2 full years to catch up due to this as well as the 90 hour slog of unskippable content

Honestly I’d say most of the community needs to switch to another game and stop supporting this hot mess of a company.
What I hate about hoyo games is their events which is outside the game. Like for f*** sake, A simple daily login requires you to open a different browser. It is like hoyo is making all free stuff away from the game. Not just the daily logins, even the mini event that they add must be played in browser instead of in-game. I quit the game after 6 months of playing since its lunch, tried to come back, but still no skip button for useless dialogs. Now I am too lazy to do quest as it takes time to go through each dialogs. I tried to do world exploration since I am done with WuWa daily activities and events, unfortunately I feel that G.I. exploration seems slow. Like when you are running and stumblle with a higher level of object whether it is stone or branch, the accelaration of a char changed from runining to climbing instead of jumping. Climbing very stiff mounain is also a hassle, the bug where character were accidentally sliding was not yet fix for 4 years.

Genshins story quests have significantly improved since I would say Dehya's sq, if you actually cared about them and took the time to play through them you would know they are not about npc's anymore, so that argument you made is pretty much invalid… Another thing, the fact that events don't really contain so much heavy lore shit actually decreases their levels of fomo, eventho it might make their stories a lot less interesting. The last 4.6 event with Itto was gold and the community loved it, now in 4.7 we had a less important event quest and all of a sudden the world goes to shit for y'all. In terms of endgame, yes hsr has 'more endgame modes' but come on lets be honest here its just 1 mode with 4 different alterations to make you spend for the limited characters, not really all that innovative. You can see they are trying something new with Imaginarium Theater, eventho a lot people don't like it… we just have to see were they take that gamemode. Maybe it's time you need to accept genshin does not aim at 'meta' gamers that only want to play combat, it appeals mostly to CASUALS and there is simply nothing you can do about that. If you don't like that direction then Genshin might not be the game for you. You also seem to completely misunderstand the point of filler content, its actually a healthy thing for a game bcs it keeps every update fresh. If every single update had 3 characters and an archon quest, it would just start to feel less and less impactful and exciting. I also seem to think people are glazing Wuwa so hard in order to make themselves feel less compelled to return to Genshin bcs if we are gonna be honest, Wuwa is such a disorganized mess of a game that is rushing itself in order to compete with the hoyo games. The combat is fresh and exciting but I've heard over multiple social media platforms that it's already becoming very very stale for some people. All the other stuff is completely subjective, "I prefer the Wuwa models" is not really an argument you can use to explain why a game is becoming stagnant bcs that is simply not true for a lot of people. I know plenty of players who don't like the darker and more grayish tones of the wuwa designs and again thats completely subjective.
I played Genshin for a little over a month somewhere between july-september 2022 when Sumeru just came out, and I actually focused on archon & world quests 100% during that time from Mondstadt all the way to Sumeru desert while not caring too much about characters. That's how invested i was in the story. But that's where it ended.
This game is probably one of my biggest "my heart sank" "fell-off-a-cliff" or whatever phrase you can use to describe that feel of instant drop where, after all is said and done, all that was waiting for me after catching up with the story were: – a slew of chest and whatever checklist from 5 or however many regions with little to no reason to backtrack other than 5-10 primos per chest – 160 or 180 resin that is worth nothing as f2p – day-gated artifact "farming" (if you can even call it that) because we all know they gotta milk the FOMO and keep active user stats as much as possible by artificially forcing players to log in on more days than they should otherwise – "standard" banner that doesn't even have most of the characters you missed as someone who started in 3rd year (I picked up Nikke on day 1 in the same year and they completely solved this issue right out the gate, with the exception for seasonal themed/collab characters) – you can't even try and pull(/buy!!!!) for the character you want because of previous point, while the game's main point is to build multiple characters for reactions and you have to bear with characters you might not enjoy playing to even have a scratch at higher level content because of it (contrast this to WuWa where people can bring even 4* characters SOLO all the time to holograms)
To hear you're getting even less and less pulls per patch is honestly downright insane and any player who lets them get away with that is actively ruining it for everyone. But we know most of hoyofans can't even put their time and/or money where their mouth is. Watch the Natlan melanin discourse be forgotten in a week by the very same people who are currently yelling about it on twitter, for one. Weird enough they didn't leave when Sumeru rolled out, with how humanoid enemies in that patch are darker skinned.

I view Wuwa as more of console game with all the parrying and gameplay. It’s more fun that way but I love genshin for its simplicity. Wish we could combine the two.

Definitely agree, every survey since 4.3 has been 'very unsatisfactory' answers from me, as well as hounding them in the feedback section for not listening and putting in slop amounts of effort.
I tried to get into ZZZ but the game won't even allow me to re-bind the 'P' key (I play left handed OKL; instead of WASD) and that's my 'E', so every fight I fat finger 'P' and it brings up a damn guide at least once every 30 seconds- it's unplayable, and after a week of reporting the issue, they still don't care…. Took them a year in HSR to fix a similar issue where regardless of customized keybinds it defaulted in-game-combat controls to WASD I played nothing but Auto until then.
Hoyo is fumbling the bag.

First, Id argue that Fontaine had the worst story. Remember, this is a quest where they moved a giant house under a lake, flood a region that is a higher elevation than the surrounding area but no where else floods and the Traveler claims Furina is cursed and everyone just kind of buys it.
The truth though is Genshin’s revenue has been declining for a while. The reason they are giving less pulls is so many players saved during the later parts of Sumeru during the year of make banners. Now, people aren’t rolling anywhere near how they used to and they have to solve that. I expect the reason for unvoiced events and smaller areas was due to Natlan taking more of the budget. A lot of people left in 4.2 and it’s likely due to the bait and switch with Furina. Her rerun is already below every other archon’s. If you are wondering why all the Natlan characters look weird, why Iansan looks out of place and why 60% of the trailer was about the Pyro archon, that’s why. I Suspect they redid the entire region and its characters which is why 4.6 and 4.8 have such small regions compared to 3.6 and 3.8

MHY no longer has to try making content for Genshin's adult playerbase because all the adults already jumped ship to HSR (Ex. Jade) and Wuthering Waves
Meanwhile, Genshin is left with mostly children playing and since children never complain about the state of a game, you get stagnation
Everything you said is spot on, Soul, but I think you left out one gripe although it's directly related to what you said by mentioning how you can farm artifacts in WuWa and not having endgame content. The resin system is totally limiting and new players literally cannot play genshin without 1-2 full years to catch up due to this as well as the 90 hour slog of unskippable content
Honkai 3rd went to the very same stages as Genshin does right now
Despite of that, stil making money despite being an "old" game from 2016
Even Honkai Gakugen, a game from 2013 still making money 🤷🤷

Honestly I’d say most of the community needs to switch to another game and stop supporting this hot mess of a company.
What I hate about hoyo games is their events which is outside the game. Like for f*** sake, A simple daily login requires you to open a different browser. It is like hoyo is making all free stuff away from the game. Not just the daily logins, even the mini event that they add must be played in browser instead of in-game. I quit the game after 6 months of playing since its lunch, tried to come back, but still no skip button for useless dialogs. Now I am too lazy to do quest as it takes time to go through each dialogs. I tried to do world exploration since I am done with WuWa daily activities and events, unfortunately I feel that G.I. exploration seems slow. Like when you are running and stumblle with a higher level of object whether it is stone or branch, the accelaration of a char changed from runining to climbing instead of jumping. Climbing very stiff mounain is also a hassle, the bug where character were accidentally sliding was not yet fix for 4 years.
All I hear is a lot of pointless unconstructive yapping, you have your right to your opinion but a lot of the things you state are so… outdated and subjective? Genshins story quests have significantly improved since I would say Dehya's sq, if you actually cared about them and took the time to play through them you would know they are not about npc's anymore, so that argument you made is pretty much invalid… Another thing, the fact that events don't really contain so much heavy lore shit actually decreases their levels of fomo, eventho it might make their stories a lot less interesting. The last 4.6 event with Itto was gold and the community loved it, now in 4.7 we had a less important event quest and all of a sudden the world goes to shit for y'all. In terms of endgame, yes hsr has 'more endgame modes' but come on lets be honest here its just 1 mode with 4 different alterations to make you spend for the limited characters, not really all that innovative. You can see they are trying something new with Imaginarium Theater, eventho a lot people don't like it… we just have to see were they take that gamemode. Maybe it's time you need to accept genshin does not aim at 'meta' gamers that only want to play combat, it appeals mostly to CASUALS and there is simply nothing you can do about that. If you don't like that direction then Genshin might not be the game for you. You also seem to completely misunderstand the point of filler content, its actually a healthy thing for a game bcs it keeps every update fresh. If every single update had 3 characters and an archon quest, it would just start to feel less and less impactful and exciting. I also seem to think people are glazing Wuwa so hard in order to make themselves feel less compelled to return to Genshin bcs if we are gonna be honest, Wuwa is such a disorganized mess of a game that is rushing itself in order to compete with the hoyo games. The combat is fresh and exciting but I've heard over multiple social media platforms that it's already becoming very very stale for some people. All the other stuff is completely subjective, "I prefer the Wuwa models" is not really an argument you can use to explain why a game is becoming stagnant bcs that is simply not true for a lot of people. I know plenty of players who don't like the darker and more grayish tones of the wuwa designs and again thats completely subjective.
I played Genshin for a little over a month somewhere between july-september 2022 when Sumeru just came out, and I actually focused on archon & world quests 100% during that time from Mondstadt all the way to Sumeru desert while not caring too much about characters. That's how invested i was in the story. But that's where it ended.
This game is probably one of my biggest "my heart sank" "fell-off-a-cliff" or whatever phrase you can use to describe that feel of instant drop where, after all is said and done, all that was waiting for me after catching up with the story were:
– a slew of chest and whatever checklist from 5 or however many regions with little to no reason to backtrack other than 5-10 primos per chest
– 160 or 180 resin that is worth nothing as f2p
– day-gated artifact "farming" (if you can even call it that) because we all know they gotta milk the FOMO and keep active user stats as much as possible by artificially forcing players to log in on more days than they should otherwise
– "standard" banner that doesn't even have most of the characters you missed as someone who started in 3rd year (I picked up Nikke on day 1 in the same year and they completely solved this issue right out the gate, with the exception for seasonal themed/collab characters)
– you can't even try and pull(/buy!!!!) for the character you want because of previous point, while the game's main point is to build multiple characters for reactions and you have to bear with characters you might not enjoy playing to even have a scratch at higher level content because of it (contrast this to WuWa where people can bring even 4* characters SOLO all the time to holograms)
To hear you're getting even less and less pulls per patch is honestly downright insane and any player who lets them get away with that is actively ruining it for everyone.
But we know most of hoyofans can't even put their time and/or money where their mouth is. Watch the Natlan melanin discourse be forgotten in a week by the very same people who are currently yelling about it on twitter, for one. Weird enough they didn't leave when Sumeru rolled out, with how humanoid enemies in that patch are darker skinned.
