Genshin Impact is a massively popular free to play open world anime gatcha RPG that initially released back in 2020, I played the game for a bit back at launch but I had no idea how popular this game would go on to be and as of October 2023 the game has over 64 million players logging in to play every month which is 4 times the amount it had back at launch.

In 2023 Genshin is available to play on multiple platforms including PC PS4 & 5, Andriod and iOS and over the years has had numerous updates that both expand the roster of collectable characters and the size of the world.

So why do people play Genshin?
Well I think there’s a few reasons but the main ones being collecting waifus, enjoying the games unique elemental reaction based action combat system, the fact that Genshin has the largest open world out of any anime game in existence and it’s also heavily story driven so you’re basically playing an anime and with every update the community is basically experiencing a new episode of that anime together.

In this video I’ll revisit Genshin Impact in 2023 to see if the game can hook me in more this time compared to back at launch.

What do think about Genshin Impact 4.2 in 2023? Is Genshin still the king of anime gatcha RPGs? let me know in the comments below!

  1. I love that genshin provides an incredible amount of content (updates every 40 days) even for F2P players. People have immediate bias against genshin for being a Gacha but it provides way more content and fun even if you only spend 5$ on it each month compared to games like LoL/Battle royales/MMO's.

If i stick around with genshin for 4 months I get 3 major story updates, 3+ new characters and enough wishes to guarantee myself 3 5-star characters, thanks to pity mechanics, when I do the new events, story content, and my dailies.
If I stick around WoW for 4 months I get maybe an update and I lose 60$.

  2. Wow, seeing this after 3 years playing really brought me back, and damn… this game is absolutely massive… Seeing it from the beginning really just brought that feeling back and it reminded me of the hard time collecting all those XXXculus lol.

  3. Genshin is good and I'm playing it for hours daily BUT, let's not kid ourselves, this video is not really a fair review because it's sponsored by Mihoyo. Peon clearly was holding back on his "things to improve" part.

  4. This game is honestly amazing besides 2 and a half flaws. Flaw 1 is that spending 70€ on a CHANCE to get a 5-star is insane, the game is very overpriced. Flaw 2 is that the resin system sucks. You need resin to get materials for leveling characters, leveling talents, leveling weapons, leveling artifacts, getting artifacts, weekly bosses – lots of things. And with things like artifacts the rng can be so bad, you could go 15 artifacts in a row without getting anything good. And you are even massively diacouraged from buying resin because every time you refill it, it gets significantly more expensive – might as well just pull for characters instead since the prices are so bad. And the last small flaw is that the endgame we currently have (spiral abyss) is nothing but timed dps checks essentially, this game needs more variety. Something similar to Warframe's survival, Arbitration or Extermination missions where you get to actually move around a small map and not a tiny arena would be incredibly fun with genshin's combat. It's a small flaw however since the game technically isn't finished at this point, there's always a chance they'll add proper endgame in the future, plus the main apeal of the game is the open world and not spiral abyss. Anyway the exploration, visuals, top tier music, massive scale of the world, story and decent enough combat really carry this game so much for me that I'm willing to just close my eyes on its flaws.

  5. If you continue with genshin until around the sumeru story, I'm almost certain you'll notice how good the story-telling and writing has become as well. It's something they've really improved upon since the beginning and fontaine has (imo) been even better, the best main story quest we've gotten so far in the game!
