Genshin Impact: A Great Game With a Gacha

Genshin Impact has so much more going for it than being a waifu collectathon. There’s a lot I feel deserves to be known, so take a few and let me explain them.

  1. Hey guys! Just an FYI, memberships are now active! Here's a link to a super short video detailing the perks of supporting me this way: https://youtu.be/VcYN6Q5RU5M

Additionally, there will be a YT stream TONIGHT at 7PM EST https://youtu.be/xKNRj8qiyf4 (I'll edit this comment once this stream has ended)

Just in case people misinterpret this video, I do not think the overall experience and quality of Genshin is better than BOTW. It's Nintendo, you can't beat them in terms of polish, but Genshin is still a very solid game in my opinion. This is coming from someone who's spent a ludicrous amount of time into both games. You don't have to choose one over the other, enjoying both for what they each bring isn't wrong.

  3. I'm sorry, but this is still a game that preys on people susceptible to gambling habits, and worse, attempts to introduce children to the same habits. Practices like these are just so morally bankrupt and would genuinely guilt me for every second I'd play that I just can't support it, even if I like the style of gameplay. I wish I could care less, but I can't.

As positive and well-crafted as your retrospective was, Skymin, I honestly think your time would be better spent propping up lesser known and misunderstood games who never got a fair shot, rather than a multi-million dollar blockbuster that isn't hurting for good press.

  4. So long and short:
Negatives: Gatcha System, China Suspicions, pushed away by "waifus/husbandos"

    Positives: Pretty much everything else.

To be honest, the game interests me and I would play it and I really have nothing against a China based company if they are honest, but from what I've seen from its Gatcha system really makes me avoid it. Might try it in the future, but for now I'd rather just watch the memes from it.

  5. in addition to the gacha shit, genshin (on pc) has a kernel level anti cheat, which is unnecessary for a pve game. it's most likely collecting your data.

  6. Thank you for giving this game a chance. I understand that there are people how won't like it, but it's frustrating how many people bash it unjustly. It is literally the most forgiving and f2p friendly gacha out there so it just seems so stupid to me that everyone treats Mihoyo like the devil. They are using gacha because they've used it before in Honkai Impact (great game btw, amazing story) and they know it works, but they made sure that it's as f2p friendly as possible while still making money so they can stay afloat. They did not at all except the game to blow up this much, so they could very well shift the game in the future to be less gacha-y and/or just pick up the Pace in updates

  8. My sister is a huge fan of this game and plays it day and night and she recommended it to me but so far I've been scared away by Gacha. This video was very helpful and it has given me some though and I might try this game eventually. But seriosuly, is there a mod to change characters to adults? I'm REALLY not into playing with anime kids

  9. A very import aspect of the game worth criticising is the censorship in the chat of e.g. political topics especially phrases like "tiananmen square massacre" in chinese: "六四事件" (engl: incident at june 4th).
It is not only the by now common censorship of curse words and it is impossible to turn of.

  10. I personaly dropped the game after a few hours becouse it just seemed empty. i finished certain parts of story and then i had to grind for the adventurers level so after a few hours i dropped the game since i had nothing to do.

  11. About Paimon: there is a running theory that I don't think is very far off:
Paimon will have some form of an extremely plot-twisting reveal at some point of the game. For those who do not want to be spoiled of a possible plot twist, do not read further.

Ok, so I take it that don't mind? Ok.
Keep in mind that this is only a THEORY, not a set-in-stone plot-point. This is just interpretation from the convenience of just-so-happening to fish up some celestial being?/pixie?/emergency food?
Paimon might be an underling of, or actually be the unknown god mentioned at the beginning of the game. Paimon might not want to reveal her true self yet, and wants to keep tabs on the traveler. At some point of the game, Paimon will reveal her secret and report the information gathered from the traveler to the Abyss Order.
