TL;DR, I loved the resolution of this quest and the ending scene, I HATED how Paimon and The Traveller acted toward Furina after everything and it left a sour taste. It felt like THIS and Raiden Act 1 should have been reversed, Imo Furina didn't deserve to be treat the way we did, especially after knowing what happened. If it is a translation issue like people are saying, that's really sad š
Also for those saying this is overreacting or exaggerating, please learn that everyone has different opinions and expresses them differently, just because mine is different to yours, doesn't mean it's anything to do with overreacting lmao, I thought I was pretty straight forward with my explanations! However I've learned a long time ago you're never gonna please everyone so if you dislike my opinion to the point of being obnoxious about it and not wanting to converse normally you can feel free to hit the red X and not watch!
god i hate paimon and taveler in this quest but thankfully it ended well for furina as she atleast found something she wants to do in her life on her own. i just hope she can make more new friends on her next quest or something.
I won't lie and say I wasn't pissed at Paimon. Just when you think she couldn't stop jabbering on at the wrong time, I have found a new way to tolerate her – no one has to agree with me, but I liken Paimon to a small child. A small child that so happens to float and sparkle. Why do I liken Paimon to a child? Simple. A child will often speak up at the wrong time, more so speak without thinking twice, have a large appetite, and get pouty when you tease them.
When I played through the quest a while ago today I'll admit to getting heated at Paimon and the Traveler, I dunno what happened for them to respond that way to Furina – she pretended to be someone she wasn't for 500 years, and this is how you talk to her? No one has to like my response but all I'm saying is: Traveler and Paimon's dialogue to Furina is written to make them look rude and I did not appreciate it. If there is a future quest with Furina, I can only hope and pray (no matter how pointless it may be) that this is remedied throughout all language translations.
i wish she got a hug from neuvillette and played with blubber beasts and basically became neuvillettes daughter but nooo genshin didnt want to give her a hug
normally i love traveler and paimon but BRO
Personally i did really like this quest Overall. The song at the end was phenomenal the story itself was beautiful and touching but yeah i wholeheartedly agree the way Traveler and Mostly Paimon treated Furina during this quest was off
Im glad im not the only one who was rather surprised at Paimon's and Aether's attitude towards Furina. While it wasn't the worst interaction, i just felt that everyone kind of took Furina's sacrifice for granted. She really shouldve been loved and appreciated more.
agreed. I too expected more epic scene for her to get a vision after seeing the archon quest. It seems they went all out on the archon quest and ran out of ideas for her story quest. I must say, Rana getting a vision in the Aranara quest is more epic than this. Anyway, I love the song, it's heart touching. May be the whole story quest budget went to the song
This reaction was very validating, I actually had to close the game after the start of the quest because I got too angry to continue. I do love the ending of the Story Quest all in all as well.
My only complaint of the story quest is the dialogue. The events themselves are fine and the cutscene was amazing. But Paimon was being so snarky, calling Furina a drama queen and coping, like that is just so damn rude. The way her voice sounded, I could feel her rolling her eyes every time Furina was opening up to her insecurities. And if she really was more gentle in CN or JP then let it be a complaint to the voice direction of the EN dub. That still doesn't take away my complaint about how Paimon was during this quest. If it weren't for how good Furina EN voice actress was, I wouldn't have suffered through that quest with EN dub on.
Furina Story Quest Re-Write:
The quest starts with someone finding the Traveler and Paimon because Neuvillette wants to talk to them about something.
Traveler and Paimon arrive at Neuvilletteās office and he says that he has been concerned about Furinaās wellbeing and wants the Traveler and Paimon to go check on her.
Once they reach Furinaās place, they learn how she is kind of struggling with living alone and with cooking.
So, you teach Furina how to make a bunch of Fontainian dishes and you even go find Navia to help teach Furina how to bake yummy desserts.
Then towards the end of the Story Quest, you and Furina are invited to go watch a play at the Opera House and you go watch the play.
Then the final scene includes a tearful thank you from Furina and you give her a big hug.
1:00:15 from this part I actually pick the second option, not that I'm not respect her for not fighting or anything, it's just me being a battle freak and think "self-defense" is a test of Will.
Ya… sorry Furina. (V_V) What am I thinking.
I guess to many people think that all fontainian hate furina after archon quest, while in reality most people still adore her and even more respect after knowing she sacrifice her divinity to avoid prophecy (official steatmen).
On self boundaries stuff, they definitely can write it better. But overall it's pretty okay for me, maybe because i already know that acting always be furina passion and while what she do for 500 years was acting as an archon, acting on stage is also something liberating for Furina.
Overall i kinda on okayish side, after all it's much better then other bad writing they do. After whole inazuma final act and kokomi genius strategist, i don't have much hope.
*A little rant from me
They even make navia do what kokomi must do back then "test the questionable party" Arlecchino even praise navia.
Until this day, I don't believe that a Chinese person who deliberately made Kokomi a reference for Zhuge Liang wrote a story like that.
Sorry for my rant
Just a theory, probably won't be true. But what if Paimon is really from the celestia/part of the unknown god which probably would be mad about Furina coz Focalors kind of like betrayed them. In that case, what if some of the anger towards Furina from the celestia is represented by Paimon and that's why she treated Furina so badly.
But Paimon being dumb can also be a reason to thatš
Iām glad Iām not the only one who thought Paimon was annoying af during this quest.
I didn't know people had problems with this quest at all till today. I feel like pushing a strong person like Furina out of her comfort zone is the right course of action. I went through something really traumatic as a child and if my dad didn't push me out of that comfort zone and make jokes about it kinda like Paimon did, I wouldn't have overcome it as well as I have nowdays. Furina is kinda lost right now, she doesn't know what to do except just lay at home and eat and sleep.
This way at least Furina would know what she wants whether it was turning away from theater or embracing it again like at the end of the quest. The overall outcome is much healthier than without the Traveler or Paimon moving her away from her comfort zone. That boundary only existed to prevent her from further harm, but if she truly loved performing, then it would hurt he more than not. That's kinda the whole point of the quest is it not?
This quest teeters on the line between awful and great – I think the final scene really solidified Furina's resolve for me. She wasn't forced to go on for the lead actress, but instead she chose to do so for the sake of the troupe's last show. After that, she rediscovered her love of performing and rekindled her desire for experiencing all the world's beauty. That being said, Paimon and Traveller do come off as GROSSLY out-of-touch in some of their dialog and choices and I wish Hoyoverse would've made the Traveller more of a sensible person to keep Paimon in her place.
Her act 2 should be ablut some way to prove she was an archon and she helped people this is so sad
Fun fact, Sedene and Tubby have the same Ba
I still don't know why people say that Neuvilette gave Furina her vision. Pretty sure it's automated in celestia, borrows power from the gnosis and grants it to a person via a vision. And when a vision holder dies –> power gets returned, maybe stronger(?) into the gnosis. Just what I understood from reading through the texts around 30 times.
Katheryne doxxed her, we make fun of her house and cooking then we ask for a favor YIKES
i hope that act 2 will be when she gets what she deserves an oscar and break from the rude traveller and paimon
I am glad you guys are enjoying Furina's archon and legendary quests 100x more than myself.
After rewatching Archon Quest cutscenes, I finally somewhat understand Traveler's behaviour.
When Traveler is watching spectacle in Furina's mind, last scene he sees is Black Outfit Furina – aka her real self as opposed to White Outfit Furina which is Furina the Hydro Archon. And Furina is dancing on the scene. That was her innermost desire, but because she was exhausted due to acting as Archon she set boundaries on herself. Traveler knows that but definitely goes about it in terrible way by trying to force her out of the shell.
Perhaps when her 2nd quest comes out more will be brought into light I need my archon story quest of Hydro!!
Ok ngl, I tend to skip through a lot of dialogue in story quests cause the majority of them don't interest me but I decided to watch the video cause the title of the vid made me curious
Barely 20 mins in and I wanna yeeet my phone across the room cause of how annoying paimon and traveller dialogue options are…….like bruh come on
before this, I was thinking that maybe I shouldn't skip the character quests dialogue or quick read em as aggressively but this vid made me realize that I'm fine as I am
Is it just me or has the traveler been a total b**ch in fontaine?
some people truly don't see traveler as their own character and throw temper tantrums when they don't act the way they want them to (not bran of course) traveler is progressively getting more tired and it's very noticeable, and understandably so, paimon was a bit overbearing in this quest however, but i do think people are being too dramatic in regards to traveler, because i know this behavior would've gone over their heads when it's someone else
i was in the live and i have to agree š not only was the dialogue infuriating but the way she got her vision just seemed weak

Let's just appreciate how much a lot of time BranOnline puts in these awesome videos to make our day, huge respect! š š
Here's something many people probably won't like hearing: Furina is not special among archons. Really, all the archons we met are living with numerous past traumas. Some of them have already shouldered those traumas for thousands of years without knowing when it will all end. It's because Furina's backstory is laid bare to us in such a way that we're deeply touched and think she deserves much more than other archons. Basically traveler and Paimon are just treating Furina like how they treat any other archon. I don't think Furina wants to be treated like she's this "crippled" person either, no? I know what many traumatized people hated the most is others treating them like glass statues due to their traumas. So this is the life of a real, normal person that Focalors always wanted to live as.
Also, I remember one of the kinda rude lines paimon said got her reprimanded immediately for saying that. So the story is aware of the two being somewhat inconsiderate.
@BranOnline I personally feel as though in this Character Quest, and the preceding Act V quests, the Traveler is falling back into that apathetic thought pattern they first displayed back in Inazuma. Theyāre getting tired, and angry, and canāt fully bring themselves to engage Furina like theyāve done with the other Archons. Theyāre out to meet the Seven and get answers about Teyvat, and Furina is worse than useless in this regard, so the Travelerās writing her off and canāt quite bring themselves to care.
I kinda appreciate this is a backhanded way. The Traveler may be a kind and giving soul, but they have limits. We even get that moment as weāre leaving Sumeru where they gripe with Paimon about the amount of trouble they regularly get into, and coupled with the visible anger and absolutely-done-with-this-shit attitude they display during Lyneyās trial over the Fatui reveal, you get the sense that they are not okay.
Paimon, meanwhile, has always been middlingly insensitive, and even if she was told about the truth behind Furina/Focalors, she wasnāt there like Neuvillette and the Traveler were. So, she probably doesnāt quite get the utter ordeal Furinaās gone through and the actual reality of her underneath the act, and this is just Paimon acts as she always does. Really, itās more on the Traveler for not telling her off.
While it is true the travler and paimon did kinda of try to get her to agree to the play quiet relentlessly, they respected her decision and went to break the news to the troupe. But itās it was Furina who followed them and agreed to everything, they even told her she could back out at anytime and said not to push herself if she wasnāt ready plenty of times. It was Furina who truly longed to play the stage as herself and not the archon, her first step to healing and freedom hence her vision. While I do agree paimon could shut up and not call her a drama queen, they were still considerate of her the whole time so they truly arenāt at fault here nor gaslighted her. Kinda donāt know why Furina said she felt like she had no choice when she clearly did.
At least Furina was happy with the way things played out despite her āruleā being broken (on her own whim!)
Also the furinas song was so beautiful and gave me goosebumps! Loved it
Just my opinion tho pls donāt hate
I feel the same, and seems like a lot of people do too. Hopefully Hoyoverse takes notice of this and never F up their writing as much as the beginning part of this quest again.
They did Furina so goddamn dirty.
Aside from Paimon and Traveler's obnoxious behavior…I thought this quest was, for the most part, beautiful. Furina, for probably the first time, was able to interact with a group of people in a setting where she was just…herself. Human. These npcs were also well written. They weren't one dimensional – they were happy, sad, and they also argued; the dynamic as a group felt natural. We even got to see Furina interact a bit with Navia, and witness that there is some underlying tension there from both parties.
After the Archon Quest ended, I thought that Fontaine could've drowned for all I care, but this quest does a great job of showing the human world as it is, and Furina truly getting to experience it… Such beautiful humanity is what Furina fought to protect.
I also think that the subtlety of her gaining her vision added to the beauty of it – while performing, she finally realized that her love for the stage is still there, despite it all. For a person who is depressed, there is no greater joy than finding color in life again. I would've liked to see more dialogue about it, sure, but since Furina, as the lead in her own life, wishes to express her humanity, and simply be human, perhaps focusing on a gift from the gods too much would take away from that message.
Of course, this is my opinion and I do understand the anger, as Paimon's presence truly does take away from the good experience a lot of times, unfortunately. Traveler has also been exceedingly selfish with Furina. I hope that once her second story quest (she better have one) rolls around, things will be expressed in a more respectful matter. An apology would also be nice. Ah well, we'll see. I loved your reaction as usual š
I do hope we get a part 2, even though she's not the archon, and now Nuevillette holds the power. The best solution is the part 2 involves both of them.
So this is just my personal opinion, while I agree with many others we were too aggressive in the beginning & Paimon was incredibly annoying as always, I think it was the right decision to not have everyone pile on her with sorrys & thank yous beside Focalors. Like it was stated what Furina did for the past 500 years wasn't just some side gig or hobby, it was her duty. She knew it would lead her to suffering but chose that duty anyways, never giving up until the end. To take pity on someone this strong & committed is an insult, particularly in Chinese culture (I never get thanked for looking after my disabled mom and she never said sorry for taking up all my free time because it was considered my obligation). Furina never wanted to be thanked or pitied for her suffering, that's what makes her such an amazing character. The only thing she wanted was to have a friend she could confide in, someone who would listen & she could be herself around, & we accomplished this in her quest. Having Focalors be the only one who apologized to Furina & thanked her for her work is very symbolic, because in the end the only one who could truly understand your suffering & offer adequate praise for accomplishing your duty is yourself.
no better way for Furina to
get a visionā¦ we get hints and her Furinas own character story an voice lines show her really music passionate about performingā¦ think MJ.. despite his abusive childe being forced to perform he still did love to make music just not under force.. wether ppl like it or not.. this is PART of who Furina is.. itās shaped her entire life.. a skill she was FORCRD TO LEARN but still part of her.. Furinas issue was she was still running from her past and who she was.. BECAUSE she couldnāt separate the bad aspects from the good aspects that made her happy.. hence why she a drew a line YET still followed the travellerā¦ she couldnāt dissociate her past from the idea of going back on stage even thought it became clearly she really missed and enjoyed and wanted deep inside to go back on.. her receiving her vision was her finally accepting her past being able to use her past as stepping stone forward but no longer a crutch.. Nuev granted her a vision because she overcame thatā¦ her quest theme was NOT RUNNING FROM HER PROBLEMS.. boundaries where her actual setting up WALLS to run from it.. I do thik pismon and traveller where assholes at first especially pismon.. š I think it could have been executed better but I think the point was to hammer the point of boundaries and to show just how resolved she was to not cross them.. UNTIL the quest slowly started to show her that u donāt have to let ur past CHAIN Uā¦ navia specifically pointed that out in her own way.. to not dwell on the past and let it keep u down.. i think lot of ppl missed that due to Piamon and traveller being assholes at the start.. š Furina was literally not allowing herself to move on an purse wit she truly loved and was so skilled in even though it was forcedā¦ she came to realize this at the end and mustered the courage to step in stage once more to do wut she genuinely loved.. thus no better way to receive a vision .. acting and performance IS part of her to deny it is to deny herself and itās us the viewers denying her of herself .. Our past shapes usā¦ ppl who run from
Who they are and wut made them have issues.. denial rather then accepting.. so now Furina accepted herself and her past and rather then let it be a chain an ball itās a plateform/skill to help her chase her dreams.. consider this ā¦ Furina had she not crossed her OWN boundary at the start following us secretly.. she would be home alone eating macaroni.. š Furina herself also said she should only see wut she wants to seeā¦ Furina was still running from her past but was actually willing to let ppl help her realize rather then build walls to dissociate passion of performing with her past.. she build bridges so she can move forward using her past experience though they are badā¦ this quest is tbh about her moving forward and no longer running from the past but using the past to put her passion and skills she gained to useā¦ only issue I had with the quest was the start where Piamon was pressing too hard.. I get wut they where tryna do but it was poorly executed.. Furina an Nahid are BOTH my favorite characters and I want wuts best for them.. triple crowned both and permanent residents in my teapot not āguestsā whst Furina need most is not a pity party.. I wanna hug her as much as anyone but thatās not wut she needs.. she needed to come to terms that her PAST is part of her BAD AND GOOD.. accepting it is what allows us to move forward utilizing both pain and pleasure the past gave usā¦ she does t need a hug she needs support and encouragementā¦ itās not good to let ppl wallow in self pityā¦ read her character story.. Clorinde was the first one to go see her after the act 5 story.. Furina fell into a spiral and was messy and her room became a complete mess.. Clorinde came in and scolded her but help her clean then told her she came too take her out to a party to make friends.. Furina got DRUNK after 2glasses and Clorinde had to stop her from jumping on the table š basically Clorinde probably closet to her and her FRIEND (travellers not the closest.. plot hole) Clorinde was helping her by including her in friendly gatherings which Furina was scared of cause she would not let go of the past.. I thought the quest was amazing and beautiful and wut Furina need MINUS the start with pismon and mc š I get it we feel so bad for her that we want to hug her ti death but thatās a pity part if u over do itā¦ last think a person like that needs is excuse to isolate themselves and everyone constantly feeling sorry for them.. navis personality throughout fontaine was grieving over and over BUT getting up and moving forward not letting the past be a crutch and instead using it to grow stronger and gain wisdom… furia was doing the opposite.. isolation and self pityā¦ boundaries make sense but these boundaries where use to RUN from her pastā¦ which she finally over came by stepping on the stage again FREE of past holding her back.. absolutely beautiful and vision makes sense.. as visions are granted in a person overcoming usual most dire situations.. UNLESS ur Lisa who literally got her vision cause she said āI want a visionā and one immediately appeared šš lisa build diffy..
This little drama is really dumb. It's the perfect example of why "show don't tell" doesn't work for a lot of people. Furina is the character that the game decides she is, she's not who random people on the internet want her to be. When the game shows us what she needs, then that's what she needs. It's pretty ironic that while she was forced to be someone else for centuries, people still try to force some other character trait on her…
I'm glad that Hoyoverse doesn't go for the low hanging fruit that is midlevel fanfiction writing by showing a Furina who would need to be hugged by everyone while fleeing from her passion and failing to overcome her trauma. Very early on, we can see she's just bored and lack purpose, when she decides by herself to come back to Catherine, it's made pretty clear that she wants to get involved and is ready to move forward, even though she's insecure about it (which is normal). At this point, we know that enough time has passed and that she doesn't need your pity or protection, she only needs a purpose for her new life (and looking for purpose is the perfect setup for getting a vision). The traveler can see that and simply act on it.
Paimon has always been straightforward and quite socially awkward. If anything, it's just yet another way to show that Paimon is a case similar to Neuvilette, she is a non-human entity who can only understand human emotion on a surface level, at least for now.
When we're about to fight.
Paimon: Don't worry piece of cake
Me:…………..
……
Fontaine made me hate the traveler and paimon
I felt kinda bad for Furina honestly, she has been drag on show against her will and it's really not fair after those last 500years >-< Wish the character would know better then that š”
The beginning of this story quest felt very forced, and I feel the same as you that Furina shouldāve just gotten some time to relax with the traveler.
Once the story quest got moving, I quite liked it, but Paimon was an absolute PoS for the whole quest, and the traveler was so pointlessly forceful with her.
I actually quite liked how she ended up on the stage, and found her love of theater again. But Furina shouldnāt have been forcefully dragged into this- if it had started by us checking on her, and stumbling upon the commission along with her, it wouldnāt have left any bad feelings.
Paimon over the course of fontaine has just demonstrated on repeat that they ruin genshin's story moment. They need to fucking get rid of her at this point it's obnoxious, the Furina quest could have been so much more but this was just not it. The music was excellent sure and the overarching plot with the theatre group was great but whoever route the travelers motivations and involvement failed horribly. The quest needed another segment where SHE got to go through interactions with Chloride or anyone else while the MC and paimon were just NOT INVOLVED.
Personally i find her quest to be very good. Furina is performer at heart, she loves to be on the stage. Just because she endured 500 years doesn't mean she should discard her love for performing. It's like after a bad break up giving up on finding a partner. She clearly showed signs the deeper you go into the quest how she actually wanted to be on the stage.
Her getting her vision at the end of the performance was glorious enough in my eyes. It was so beauitful as she finally accepted her past and found her future. The vision itself is unique as its the only vision we know granted by a dragon sovereign.
I think the traveler was doing okay, he was her friend and helped her go through it. The NPCs were sweet and well written.
Basically in the entire quest there's only one bad thing and that's how much of a piece of shit Paimon can be with her big mouth and smooth brain.
Idk if anyone will even see this, but I do want to write my own thoughts down somewhere.
While the AQ was 10/10 imo, it bothered me that no one was concerned about Furina's mental health at the end. She just… kinda disappeared. I figured it wouldn't be a huge deal, since she gets a whole story quest right after, though.
I see where people are coming from with this quest. I was waiting for us to apologize after learning the truth, but that never happened. The characters honesty just gaslit her the whole time.
However… I also think there is some nuance here. At the start of the quest, Furina is clearly suffering from depression. While she claims she never wants to act on stage again, it's very clear that she's still punishing herself because of her survivors guilt. The fact that she followed the Traveler back and hid behind the desk, was to show that she's still not openly admitting to herself what she really wants. She can't be honest with herself.
I don't think it's always inherently wrong to push someone into a situation that will clearly help them. I just wish the Traveler and Paimon were written to be apologetic, and showed actual concern for her mental state. Neuvillette seemed to be the only character in the story that was genuinely worried about her.
I think a lot of people lack the maturity of separating what works and what doesn't. When they don't like something, it can't just have some flaws, it has to be the wost garbage imaginable.
Dehya was right. "Shut it Paimon!"
The way I see it, the love interest in the play is symbolic of Furina/Focalors being able to live truly as a human. Experiencing love and living normally in the world of Fontaine would be very human activities, not involved in the greater schemes at work and living for one's self. But it wasn't possible for her to do that as she was both divinity and human, and since her divinity placed upon her the grave burden of duty she had as an archon in releasing her people from a sin that she didn't even commit. In the play and directly told through the song, the Little Oceanid sacrifices her desired life and becomes sea foam (like the little mermaid) to ensure the safety and well being of both her lover and the entire nation, which is facing a catastrophe due to a a sin which, with important emphasis, she did not commit herself. In the play, the sin is the people's behavior driving the water away, and in Furina/Focalors reality, it's the sin of the appropriation of the Primordial sea by Egeria.
This is a mirror to what Focalor did the entire quest; She was duty bound to sacrifice herself for something she really did not sign up for. In the Little Oceanid, the oceanid wasn't the cause but had the power to fix everything. In reality, she also was not the cause, but the title of archon was thrust upon her and by extension the duty of saving everyone. By sacrificing herself and releasing the Hydro Archon's authority of water (turning into seafoam in the play), she ensured a future where her human half (the life she coveted, her 'lover' in the play) and the nation of Fontaine at large (which is still Fontaine in the play) could continue to prosper. The primary irony here is that Fontaine in reality faced a flooding crisis, and in the play faced a drought crisis.
The lyrics of the song say words such as "If only true love were enough. . . My wish. . ." which is her lamenting if only she could live as her full self, both divinity and human, amongst her people, which in the play would be the lover and Furina. But her greater wish was the survival of both her humanity and humans at large, and so true love wasn't enough and begged a larger sacrifice.
Furina/Focalors story is a tragic one of duty vs. desire.
Also, I fully agree with you on how mistreated she was in this quest. It pissed me off too so I'm glad someone made a point of it
