I would prefer a selection ticked for a Standard Pool 5* to a free character tbh, I've been waiting a long time for Keqing, yet have obtained everyone else but her. lol
Having said that, I'd be all for getting a free 5* if it's Cloud Retainer. Though unlikely, they might have timed their drip marking in anticipation to the Ratio backlash. One thing for sure, they definitely know how the player's reacted to HSR's getting a free 5*, so it would be a bad move for them to do nothing.
Ideally, what I'd like to see is for them to implement the HSR's 300 selection to the Standard Banner, anyone who has already pulled 300 or more would be able to claim a character instantly, and then offer a free 5* character for either Christmas, New Years or Lantern Rite.

The only 5 star character that hoyo should have gave out for free was diluc from the standard banner of genshin impact. Because that's the character that I really wanted for free diluc.
Actually I feel like Klee Furina Cloud retainer plus one more character that gives buffs canbe a good team.
I dunu, genshin gives mad premos and fates via ingame gamey side quests main quests etc
