Claymores – The Worst Weapon Type? | Genshin Impact

While Catalysts were once considered the worst weapon type in the game on the basis of its average user, theyโ€™ve since improved a ton. Meanwhile Claymores, once thought of as one of the best weapon types, fell off significantly in relevance due to a lack of strong modern characters and with the relative rise in performance of the other weapons. For today weโ€™ll be discussing how claymores became the worst weapon type in Genshin Impact.

  1. When I hear "the worst weapon type" I think about the weapons specifecally and not the characters using the weapons. Being a bit more specific would take confusion away.

It's kinda weird that genshin team limits themselves with claymore characters, where they don't use one part of characters kit completely. For example we could get a character that uses his charged attack to fling himself in the air so he could plunge attack, basically adding dragonstrike to his core kit.

  2. Theres a lack of tradeoff when using claymore's slow but heavy attacks. Sure they could prolly FORCE us to use a claymore thru that one mecha gravity enemy, or layered armour but they lose when Zhongli is in the picture. And how the current best DPSes do 40k Charged blast or 100k normals, claymore loses any incentive to use.

We couldve had this with dehya if they designed her where the more she gets hurt, her dmg or stats increases like mega crazy or she fills up a "Rage bar" or "Berserk bar" and acts like arle's "Bond of Life" and during her burst window she can do 100k and the "BoL" like mechanic decreases for every punch she delivers and her kick does a huge damage equal to the Total dmg shes accumulated. But no hoyoverse hates being equally creative with their playable cast ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

  3. Just wanna point out that Itto does have a unique set of charge attacks. one is a small deviation of the spin to win and the other is a small deviation from the constant swings. Different but similar and unique

  4. I feel like, if anything, they make bad characters use claymores, not the other way around. Dehya and Xinyan have nonsensical kits and Eula is a physical fighter in an elemental-reactions world, changing their weapon type wouldn't make them meta. Gaming is the only decent 4-star hypercarry, and he's a claymore, even if his real weapon is a pogo stick. Navia, worst weapon and worst element, above-average DPS. Even if it's technically the worst on average, I don't think that has much to do with the weapon animations.

  5. I think the greatsword would be the best weapon type for controlled heavy hits. On field catalyst and sword users tend to be great at delivering a lot of elemental application to trigger a bunch of smaller reactions with frequent off field coordinated attacks. If your off field elemental application is a little on the slower side, it would thematically make since for them to build up to less frequent but much bigger reactions throw skills and bursts. Keeping their normal attacks physical but still rotationally important for empowering your heavy hitting skill. Something along those lines

  6. I'd argue the worst weapon type combat-wise is bow.
Think about it, are there any GOOD character who are good BECAUSE of their bow? Not for their abilities, for which the character might as well be any weapon and it won't matter (i.e. Yelan).
I can only name Yoimiya, the most boring bow stance imaginable, and Tighnari as an actual solid example.
Lyney is only hindered by his weapon, if anything, because both his q and e require you to be close to the enemy, at which point why bow? Same goes for Ganyu, to a lesser extend but still goes.
Childe is basically a non-bow user, but he can make an argument for checking a bow requirement while not being a bow user gameplay wise.

At the same time somebody like Diluc or Eula are any good at all mostly because of their weapon (Diluc falls apart without his combo and nowadays without high plunge damage, and Eula is even more damage-per-screenshot with a different weapon).

  7. I remeber when starting genshin watching the catalyst weapon video. I thought damn i should maybe not pull for catalyst characters. Now i have more catalyst characters than I know what to do with them. I just love their playstile ๐Ÿ˜Š

  8. Also wanted to add, IMO Claymore lacks a dedicated support weapon (besides favge)

Bow has Elegy. Sword has Freedom Sworn. Catalyst has TTDS and Amber.
Polearm also doesn't have a support weapon, but polearm has much more choice of good weapons to choose from, both F2P (e.g. The Catch) and limited (e.g. Homa which is good for everyone).

  9. If it wasn't for Navia, Noelle(because of furina), Gaming, Beidou, Diluc and later on kinich i rarely touched any claymore cause i don't wanna deal with the slow and clunky playstyle. Also is it just me or do some of the kits of alot of claymore characters just feel situational, undertuned or experimental to somewhat bad?

Kaveh is possibly the worst dendro character, even worse then collei because collei can be a ceiling for nilou and have hardly any er issues with C1 and Sac

Eula is very backloaded and physical has it's own. before furina I don't think mika was designed for eula, like he might be design for a faster normal attacking physical dps character.

Dehya i love her and although she has gotten better with new teams such as Neuvillette burnvape or Vapebloom, Chevy(a team where she can utilize her entire kit.) and Lyney Mono Pyro. Her kit is still somewhat dogs***. Her burst makes no sense as defensive unit, Her defensive utility kinda sucks as a solo sustain unit unless if your name is neuvillette. Her uptime is pretty bad this can be remedied if you have her c2(which honestly helps alot.) and Sac, her Pyro app is also kinda eh, she has the benefit not needing any er but her app honestly feels so slow and inconsistent like it's slower than Thoma and XL, like i was expecting it to be in the middle of those two.

Nowadays Claymore dpses(besides navia even if she makes use of it and later one kinich) have one thing now and that's Xianyun and this is due to Claymores having high ass plunge multipliers.

  10. I still remember on my low AR days, I want nothing but Diluc so I can beat the game, he was soo fun when I first tried his trial run on the mondstadt archon quest, and was more happier than ever when I lost to him on Wanderer release banner, now he is benched and I kinda regret building him with 4pc crimson set… But hopefully its going to change once I am getting Xianyun on her rerun… It sucks that two of my favourite standard banner 5 stars are Claymores, Diluc and Dehya and both have soo bad kit…
