There are some counter measures you can take in order to tighten your Genshin Impact account’s security:

1. Use long passwords with special characters, for example like this: ZwTz078FMj0*532#$ or just search random generated password (this makes most account recheckers/crackers almost impossible to guess the password).

2. Change your password every month and if you want to feel more secure then you can change your pass every week.

3. Don’t use the same password anywhere in your account!! For example if you have multiple accounts with the same password and one of your accounts gets data breached, they could easily recheck/trace your other accounts because you have the same password.

4. Don’t give out your Genshin Impact account user ID/pass/email to anyone you don’t trust!

  1. 1. Why there is no 2FA for MiHoYo account? – First thing is they have 2FA but only when changing sensitive information like email and password

    – Also they cannot put 2FA at login because they also need to put 2FA when logging in the game, which not many games do. However, game providers like Steam, Origin, Epic Games have 2FA for playing game BUT through a launcher, not in a game. MiHoYo can do this for their PC launcher, but cannot apply to mobile and PlayStation players. – 2FA through SMS and Email IS NOT SAFE, it's confirmed by security researcher, you can learn more in this blog post by Sucuri

(https://blog.sucuri.net/2020/01/why-2fa-sms-is-a -bad-idea.html). TLDR, hackers can intercept and spoof the SMS before the code is sent to the users.

  2. As a f2p player, I won't even think about putting money in Genshin before the security problem is fixed. I don't want to spend for example $100 then the next day find out that I can't login anymore and all my account's info has been changed.

  3. I honestly think they are going to cash out as much as possible on this game and then dip. There's no reason to go all out on appeasing people when they can just let it drown and build a new slot machine from scratch. Genshin has great look and mechanics, but the playstyle feels mostly like filler and it doesn't seem like they know where it's going. We'll see, though. I just don't plan to spend anymore on it.

  4. That's one of the reasons I quit Genshin Impact. The devs don't care about the players and they love to see players suffer after players pay lots of money to them. I suspect part of their strategy is to let players lose their accounts so the players need to pay for everything again to catch up.

  5. I'm willing to give them a few months under the assumption that they probably didn't expect this game to take off so quickly and they're (hopefully) scrambling to hire and set up more departments to handle things right now. That kind of stuff doesn't happen in a few weeks. So again, LET ME GENEROUSLY GIVE THEM A FEW MONTHS GRACE TO FIGURE THEIR SHIT OUT. PLEASE MIHOYO.

  6. I know this is bad thinking but, i kinda hope someone hacked accounts of chinese players, then all hell lets loose in the chinese community (just like what happens with zhongli) and then only mihoyo will do something about it. Right now, I'm pretty confident that no changes will occur in a long time based on how mihoyo is treating account security currently

  7. Started just yesterday I'm having problem logging in the game, "Connection failed, try again later". This has nvr happened before (since launch), now i'll need to spend 5-10minute just to get into the game. Please fix your server MiHOYO!

  8. I’m active in chinese genshin community, they also asking for better security such as 2fa. So it’s not chinese players never ask for it.

  9. We need everyone to protest and boycott their products until MiHoYo implements better security system. However, that's near impossible to do. The only time community actually won is the Zhongli buff.

  10. I immediately disagree with you. The selling of accounts is money that Mihoyo themselves will not get, and deprives them of profits in 2 ways. The unfortunate soul who lost his account stops playing the game, this Mihoyo doesn’t get any revenue from him. The guy who bought the account didn’t have to pay Mihoyo a single cent, and likely could simply not buy any more. Mihoyo only gets what the person who lost his account paid for, and some guy in Siberia gets money as well. With stronger account security, now only would the person who would have loss their account pay money to Mihoyo, but so would the person looking to get into Genshin.

  11. Frankly, increasing password length from 16 to 30 characters is a pretty useless change on its own. It’s not like hackers are brute-forcing 16-character passwords, that would be a ridiculous waste of time when there are so many ways to get passwords from gullible players or existing data breaches. Mihoyo probably just didn’t think it was worth pointing out.

I think it’s odd how many players seem to believe that game companies don’t care about account security or customer satisfaction. I mean, of course they care, we are their source of income. They want to make us happy, because that’s how they succeed and feed their families. The idea that people who choose a career in game development don’t care about making good games or making players happy is so obtusely cynical as to be ridiculous.

Game developers aren’t psychopathic anarcho-capitalists, they’re just regular people trying to make money doing something they find meaningful. As such, they are going to make mistakes, and they deserve the benefit of the doubt, or at least the bare minimum of basic human empathy. They’re not ignoring us on purpose, they’re having difficulty communicating sufficiently to an unexpectedly massive, international, cross-platform, multiple-language user base. I’m sure they’d love to be able to keep us all apprised of their progress, but that’s no easy task. Give them a break, folks, they can’t work miracles, and we have no idea what sorts of back-end complications they are facing when it comes to security and account management. If the account hacking issue really is as prevalent as the English-speaking community makes it appear, they are certainly aware of it, and have likely made it a priority, because ignoring such an issue would be amazingly stupid and bad for business, and they know that.

  13. IDK how but get this video as far and as high as possible!
It sums up everything that ppl have been constantly bombarding mihoyo for.
The Chinese community is safe af, coz they have some different login credentials and so, they dont give a f**k abt the rest of the world.
ppl should stop spending money the nxt update coz if their revenue crashes to hell, maybe they'll understand it's about time.

But then again addicts and white knights always ruin everything.

  14. It's going to be fairly lengthy and harsh post but the reason why are people getting hacked if primarily their own fault. Could mihoyo implement 2FA? It would be nice i agree but you know what would be even nicer? If people stopped reusing their god damn password which is basically some lazy variation of "password1" on every single website and act as if they've done nothing wrong and mihoy is solely to blame for this. No seriously i've seen videos which shown the list of hacked accounts and i kid you not vast majority of accounts that i've seen had simple and generic password that consist of a name of some kind with a single digit number at the end and you can be 100% sure a person who uses "ashley1" or "avengers4" as their password reuses it, and probably has been reusing it for years due to sheer laziness. Again, 2FA would be nice to have but i'm not going to sit here and bash mihoyo when they say that you should take better care of your account which is an objective FACT. Your password is your first, and strongest line of defence and if you neglect it you put your account at risk. If you consider yourself a person who has been reusing (insert a name here)(insert birth year here) as your password on every website stop whatever you're doing right now and change password on ALL those accounts to unique ones that consist of small, as well as capital letters, numbers and most importantly symbols and for crying out lout make it as difficult to predict as possible. Heck, use randomly generated one if you must and write it down on a piece of paper so you don't forget it and no i don't care whether it's google account or some random forum you registered on 10 years ago give EACH account a unique randomly generated password so even if one of those accounts get breached hackers will only gain access to that one account instead of every single one. I mean just imagine this scenario. You have been using one password and one email for each service you use. Google, Twitch, work, your bank account, your paypal, netflix, Steam, genshin impact, runescape, some random hobby forum you've been active on 10 years ago and many more. One day hobby forum gets breached and hacker steals your private information from that forum and now because you've been reusing your password on each of those services hacker can potentially have access to your bank account, emails and god knows what else. Do you want to be in a situation like this? Do you want to one day open your bank account only to find out it has been completely drained? I highly doubt it. Lastly i know that it's a pain in the ass to remember 20+ passwords but this is the unfortunate reality of this situation. Just like the internet security is getting better and better, so do hackers and we have to adapt in order to make their work as difficult as possible.

  15. They should hire more support staff. If the reports are true that the game has already broken a billion dollars in revenue there's nothing stopping them from recruiting a small army of workers.
