  1. Man, Homophobia and Transphobia is simply STUPID. afterall, the Greeks were doing it for years, and Rome was very gay , and it's just stupid how there can be hatred against same-gender relationship since it has existed for so much time and so much good history and and decisions were made from it and yet people try to refuse its existency…

  2. Wriothesley and Neuvillette are a gay couple and there is literally nothing anyone can say to make me think differently. Perhaps the only thing is that if I was in that world I need Wriothesley to be my hunk goth bf and we can be gay together I'm better for him than Neuvillette anyways. (/j but also not really)

  3. great video series, would love a part 3! i’m very curious about the “npcs out in the wild” you mentioned at the end of the video. and i’d also be interested to hear more context/evidence on zhongli/childe and wrio/neuvilette, and why everyone seems to immediately think of them as couples

  4. i gotta say this as a jewish person being queer is in fact not a sin.
but being a p£d0 is, and even if it was a sin times change the bible is VERY out dated.
please stop using my religion for your homophobia. (also as god once said "respect them for them being a person not for them being a believer" (i have bad english my apologies the translation errors))

  5. I absolutely love watching these video essays. I think another worthwhile mention is Xiao because put simply he seems to be absolutely head over heels for traveler no matter if the player has picked Lumine or Aether, and it just gets even better with the Poetry event happening right now.

  6. Cool video but please don't use pro-ship to mean problematic, it's been used for a way longer time to mean people who are anti-harassment and believe fictional ships don't affect reality.

  7. Those comments remind me that guy who was watching MO DAO ZU SHI donghua and said that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were not gay. THEY ARE MARRIED AND HAVE A SON TOGETHER. Those people lives in their bubble of cis alo straigth are living so SAD colorless lives from my perspective. Life is more beuatifull with more variety of people to love and respect.

  8. These are amazing videos. I have a….. complicated relationship with Genshin, being a f2p gacha game, but I absolutely adore all the queerness in the game ❤
I'd love another one of these, maybe looking into CanDehya(or Dehya+Dunyarzad) or Ganqing. Ganyu and Dehya are two of my absolute favorite characters and I love their queer ships.
Another thing that could be interesting to investigate is the characters that clearly have a crush on the Traveler even when they are the same gender (Noelle+Lumine, Ayaka+Lumine, Xiao+Aether, Lynney+Aether)

  9. yess amazing update, thanks E! please talk about Dehya and Dunyazad if u make a part 3, i love their relationship n think they're v obviously queer coded (tough bodyguard x princess-type (i don't think she's actually a princess idk lol) who's dealing w sickness n they both r super protective of eachother in that storyline (I think it's Dehya's story quest?) and def are giving soulmates/would die for each other ™ hehe . 🙂

  10. personally i like the idea of not finding out this possibility of being a queer.. i don't want to think about it..even if it is or not.. why can't we just enjoy things on our own?

  11. I mean… My ideal fantasy world does not include gay people cause I'm woman and I like straight guys. I think Kaveh is hot and I don't want him to be gay. That's not something that I need.

Like seriously Kaveh is one of the most beautiful characters I've ever seen, I want him to be real!!

  12. I do wanna point out one thing here and its that Chongyun and Xingqiu are most likely adults but the thing about their relationship is that even if they are adults, they are both adults who probably never got to grow up the “normal way”. I dont believe they are in their late 20s or anything like that but considering Hutao and Xinyan are their childhood friends and they both are well-known people in Liyue with a stable job, it would be strange for two clear adults to have a “childhood friendship” with people that much younger without implying other gross stuff.
It doesnt really change the fact that Xingqiu is still immature for his age and that Chongyun is a workaholic but it does give a new perspective on how they bear the pressures and responsibilities of being an adult while still trying to remain playful and childlike like Hutao who balances that work-life-leisure balance perfectly. But obviously because of their circumstances, it’s very hard to justify that leisure time they have with each other which makes their friendship more endearing as they do both relax quite a bit from their “job persona” when around each other.

  13. I know it’s really recent but if there is ever another video on the queer ships in Genshin….WRIOLETTE HAS GOTTA BE INCLUDED I MEAN Wriothesley basically hitting on Neuvilette as they’re about to die from a wall of people-eating/vaporizing sea water like???? There is no heterosexual explanation for this and there ISN’T ONE AND CHECKING NEUVILETTE OUT AT THE SAME TIME LIKE-

I personally hc Neuvilette as like oblivious aro/ace who doesn’t quite pick up on Wriothesley’s special treatment but like WRIO IS SO DOWN BAD FOR NEUVILETTE LMAO

  14. had to log into this abandoned acc to comment, thank you for all your research & effort put into this!! so so happy to see safe queer spaces in this fandom. i'd like to ask if you could cover madame ping/streetward rambler & guizhong's story together which was revealed in this year's lantern rite event? i think they may be one of the most coded wlw relationships in the game. or maybe i'm biased but either way, i do think they are a heavily-implied sapphic ship, even with their content being packed in just one single event!

following guizhong's death, ping talks abt her grief over the loss of her dearest friend & says, "tell me, cloud retainer … when the one attuned to my soul is no longer here, who else could hope to understand this tune?" in cn, she uses the phrase 知音 (zhiyin) in reference to guizhong, meaning intimate friend/soulmate & which is said to have originated as a term from the tale of boya & zhong ziqi. the relationship between guizhong & madame ping are significantly inspired from the legend & much of their lore mirrors their relationship.

i may have some of the details of the story wrong, so you should research it yourself for clarification if you'd like, but i believe that boya was a renowned qin player (a traditional instrument, similar to a harp?) who lamented the fact that nobody understood his music. zhong ziqi was a woodcutter and had no things in common with boya, & yet he was the only person in the world to be able to understand boya's music & he recognized the song that boya was playing during their first encounter by heart. the two became so incredibly close that they recognized each other as soulmates (or as zhiyin, something akin to soulmates but actually transcended the idea of friendship and soulmates itself) & ziqi would compare boya's songs to waterfalls in the mountains (高山流水). later before ziqi passed away, he asked boya to play the song that he had played upon their first meeting. boya was so heartbroken & distraught over his soulmate's death that it was the final song he ever played, as his later attempts to play any music were met with mockery & laughter from those who could not resonate with his playing style the way that ziqi did. boya then broke his qin & said something like, "why play another song if my soulmate – the one who understands my music, is not here?" (i took this from a translated source on reddit, but i believe it may be very similar to the exact lines that ping used to talk about her relationship with guizhong!) additionally, some say that the famous guzheng song 高山流水 (high mountains, flowing water / what ziqi compared boya's music to) was that first & that final song (i'm not entirely sure about why it's a guzheng & not guqin, but i haven't done much research on that yet, my apologies!). anyway, although their legend is simply of "friendship", it is very clear that 知音 is a bond that surpasses platonic love and even romance in a way; i think somebody said it was soulmates on a level beyond comprehension. the term has frequently been used in medias FOR queer romantic relationships however, such as to describe wangxian & HAS historically been used to bypass censorship laws over queer media.

ping & guizhong's lore together is almost exactly like boya & ziqi's story, in the way that ping composed an entire song on the zither for guizhong & played it solely for her one last time before she vowed to never play again because she found no reason to continue making music when guizhong was not there to understand it. ping also went into seclusion (or just spent time alone) in the mountains for a while to grieve guizhong's death & to compose a song in guizhong's memory. not only that, but she literally shed her adeptus form to take on the life of a mortal (that's why she grew old in liyue) BECAUSE of guizhong's death, which had made her realize the futility of life & rethink the way she regards "immortal" existence. she explained this in the lantern rite quest & talked about how she was curious as to why guizhong had always loved mortals so much, which is why she had taken on a form that allowed her to be closer to humanity to see what made guizhong love them so. in the cutscene, cloud retainer also asks ping, "upon what do you gaze? the guili plains?" & ping answers, "no, it's … everything" to encapsulate the way that her loss of guizhong made her reevaluate existence as a whole. (& it could even be interpreted to say that she considers guizhong to have been her everything!) she admitted in the quest that even now, she has not fully moved on from guizhong even if the grief has become easier over time. & her resting position as an npc in the city is literally gazing upon a glaze lily, which is often guizhong's representative flower!!! imagine loving somebody so much that you change your entire way of life, even when they're no longer there, to learn how to love the way they love!! like that is SO SO insane !! also, if boya & ziqi's song together had been 高山流水/high mountains, flowing water, it's even more lovely bc guizhong & ping would often convene in the //mountains// together to debate and "discuss music, mechanics, and all affairs of the mortal world" (from the cutscene itself). someone also pointed out that in the cutscene when guizhong & ping are arguing over the merits of music, guizhong's aura (golden) is drawn to clash with ping's aura (blue). as they bond, their colors mixed together as cohesive complements & were expressed in bright shades during guizhong's life, dark shades in the wake of her death. & in the final scene of the cutscene, ping looks back to the mountains (the very same mountains that she and guizhong would retreat together to spend alone time) as if reminiscing or yearning for the memory, & she is bathed in golden light (guizhong's color). just a very, very lovely detail that i hadn't even considered until someone brought it up!

& i'm also so so sorry, i hadn't realized how long this accidentally got until now, my apologies 😭 i haven't even covered the entirety of the details they have together, & i'm not sure if you'll see this comment, but i would really love to see a mention of guizhong & ping's story if you were to continue this series (no pressure or obligation however). thanks again for all your effort!! have a great day

  15. another amazing incredible fantastic video essay as always (i love you) but I was thinking that something that could be really interesting to see is comparing a lot of the queer ships in genshin to the straight (highly considered) canon ships in genshin (IttoSara, Bennefischl, Jeanluc, KokoGorou, Hu Xiao, Ayathoma) idk those are just some that came to mind. Because most of the het ships in genshin aren't explicit at all, and a lot of them have even LESS evidence than a lot of the queer ones idk i just think that would be interesting <3

  16. Don't take my word for it, I have a bad memory, but I think Alejandro Saab mentioned during a stream that he deliberately changed the tone of his voice while talking about Tighnari. But keep in mind he isn't claiming the ship is canon. He could get in trouble if that were the case.

Thinking about thoughts, it made me wonder if you don't know that much about kaeluc's relationship, same as it happened with xingyun
