Ever since the very beginning of the game, we’ve believed that the Anemo Gnosis was the Queen piece of a chess set while the Geo Gnosis was a Rook. Logically, that means every other Gnosis should follow that pattern.

But what if we’re wrong about that? What if the Geo Gnosis ISN’T a rook, and the Anemo Gnosis ISN’T a Queen? Does it change anything?

  1. This is 100000% random but is anyone ever tell you your voice and the way you talk sounds really close to how Yanfei Japanese VA sounds? like really close. I figure maybe thats why you have Yanfei as your character when do your video. Anyway really awesome video. Enjoy the theory so much. And…. maybe talk about Pneuma and Ousia or some theorycrafter maybe called 'Celestial and Abyss' power next? 😀

  2. What would the traveler that we use be? Cuz our traveler can use all the elements that already have some of the statues of the seven (anemo, geo, electro & dendro are useable by the traveler, & we can use hydro, pyro & cryo when possible), and he/she would have the light element if it wasn’t for the unknown god from the beginning of the game before we choose our traveler

  3. I like theory about Gnosis being Kings of different sets. But it then makes me ask, why would the Fatui want to fill chessboard with Kings – the most importatnt but also the weakest chess piece? Does collecting them all allows you to invite to the table a player who would use them as figure? Anyway, great video!

  4. I think your idea holds some logic but I have questions that what does it make the traveller, A rule breaker or the being who is playing the game against the high heaven and the abyss for the mortal, To get free from the chains of the gods.

  5. I already thought they were their respective kings because the chess pieces all look like they could be kings but don't look like they could be other pieces unless you stretch a bit.

It would also make more sense lore wise since they're all the kings of their respective regions and the wars they had were to get the king position.

  6. The vision wielders being pawns also matches with some other theories where Celestia/the archons hand out visions just for keeping tabs on people whose ambitions grow too strong, and they literally become pawns, moving and acting as Celestia pleases.
But yeah, the Gnoses being the kings of their own chess set makes so much sense! Like Venti is the king of his own region, his chess set, Mondstadt, and Jean, the acting Grand Master, takes the Queen piece as she is second to Venti in protecting Mondstadt, or something like that. Maybe Kaeya and another knight, or Diluc, take the Knight pieces and Albedo and Sucrose/Lisa might take the bishops piece. Not sure about the Rooks though, it might be Diluc and maybe Noelle? Or Razor, the boy who protects Wolvendom and is pretty linear in his thinking capabilities?

  7. What If… All Gnosis are King Piece??? Anemo has a crown, so too Geo, except for Electro that has ornamental Kabuto (war helmet) of high ranking Samurai (or Shogun Directly) since in Japan emperor rarely depicted wearing royal headpiece…

  8. @ashikai. This chess piece is just over thinking , the player who plays the game would decide witch archon would be a chess piece , the question is who is the player and what game is he playing.

  9. i don't think that a gnosis represents a certain archon. They were granted to the winners of the Archon War, no one knew beforehand who would win. So i think gnoses should represent either their elements or the principles (like freedom, wisdom, love, …) behind them. Assuming that these principles are linked to the element/gnosis and not a certain archon, but i guess we'll see in Fontaine, if the principle of hydro changed.
PS your idea in the video is interesting.

  10. The idea of them being specific chess pieces always felt a bit wrong to me because it always felt kind of incomplete, as a literal chess set, it only fills out half of one side’s pieces, and they’re the same color.

Following the idea that they’re supposed to fill out a set of pieces you’d think they’d have an opponent, or actual pawns. Visions can only be said to be representative of pawns, but they don’t resemble pawns, they resemble checkers more than pawns. And the Gnosis holders aren’t so close they could be considered allies. I mean, there’s the Tsaritsa.

Furthermore bringing all the chess pieces together has no significance in chess. Why would the fatui need anything besides the king?

I think there might be a chess piece motif, given they were being used as chess pieces, but I don’t think any of them are supposed to be specific pieces, or that if they were, that it has anything to do with the characters and is instead about the relations of the elements.

If the electro Gnosis was supposed to be a knight for instance, why would the electro Gnosis not even have any kind of illusion to a knight/horse, same with it being a bishop.

Also, if what piece they were had anything to do with the holder’s character, why is Zhongli then not a knight, the piece with the least amount of options in movement besides a pawn, putting him in contrast with Venti, who has the most free piece.

  11. A Queen is the strongest peice in the board. It has the most mobility and highest threat no matter the position. Best way to kill a Queen is with another Queen in a mutual destruction.

Bishops are passive early game. They can't move unless other pieces made a move. Unless bishop is free, it can't do anything. But when it's free, a bishop is one of the strongest pieces in a board wil least amount of pieces.

Rooks are nearly at the same boat as Bishops. But where they excel is restricting movement. Rooks are often used to restrict king mobility and cut off the king from a part of the boat. Thus making the king passive.

Knights are the only major peice that can move before pawns. They are one of the most deadliest peice on board when you have a closed board.
They are also a peice that can defend and attack multiple pieces.
