Why the Genshin Impact Lantern Rite SUCKED…

In this video I talk about the 4.4 Lantern Rite Event that just ended in Genshin Impact and how it actually turned out to be terrible compared to previous ones, we did see the appearance of new characters like Xianyun & Gaming, but we also saw some very forced ones too like Zhongli and Xiao… I explained everything that went wrong with Lantern Rite and how Hoyoverse could improve it in the future, because the 4.4 Lantern Rite was not good at all… Especially compared to previous Genshin Impact quests like the Fontaine Archon Quest and more.

Hope you enjoy the video!

  1. This was my first lantern rite and I heard so many good things about the rewards and the story but there was no 4* skin selector…and the story was mostly about Gaming. I only keep playing because I like the characters and the open world.

  2. The story was meh. Not bad but not good. The minigames were chores. It would have been great if the puzzles were permanent where you could take time to figure it out but it was in a limited time event. Any co-op genshin makes goes down the drain as well as Co-op is an afterthought in this game since 1.0. I did it for the primogems and I did get Cloud Retainer. So yay…

  3. This might sound really copium for some but I feel like this year's Lantern Rite was chill, if we look at all quests we had pretty intense quests. Yes I did like Lantern Rite quest because it was just chill, Might I remember we started 4.0 whit a boom for the Archon Quest so having just a cool chill quest was perfect IN MY EYES. Yes copium comment but I did find the event pretty fun.

  4. I didn't like how mostly everybody started interfering with Gaming's life without him asking for it.
The only ones not involved were Zhongli and Xiao. Yaoyao and Qiqi were just there too. Also Keqing.

I understand what Liyue represents and why they wanted to restore Gaming's ties to his family, but it felt forced to an extent to me.
The writing's pretty good regardless though, but just because I can relate to Gaming's struggles does not mean I agree with how they got resolved.

  5. Nope it wasn't they hade Menogias as the freakin statue for the event and did not mention him ONCE. Honestly I don't know how they manage to miss this the Yaksha story is the best story they have going on in the game. With a soldier Xiao losing all his comrades in a war trying to fit in afterwards. But they just tried to sell Gaming instead. Sadge.

I don't think the DEV team makes these decisions I think money is, shareholders demand that they advertise characters rather than progressing the story.

  6. Here is a suggestion for a story for this lantern out of the top of my head knowing the lore. Xiao starts having doubt after almost getting everyone killed he has trouble keeping his demons away. The story becomes to prove to Xiao that he has leader qualities together with Zhongli. Zhongli reluctantly takes the traveller a side and tells him/her about his worries for Xiao. Paimon suggests out of the blue that maybe Xiao just needs to remember his fellow Yakshas. To achieve this they visit Menogias temple it is revealed that Kapsias the general of all yaksha, was always very hard on Xiao which made him who he is today. In his journal that he kept for himself it is revealed that he always viewed XIao as his son and just tried to prepare him for the ensuing battle. At the end of the quest Venti plays on his flute for a crowded Liyue square, the bard from Mondstadt has not gone unnoticed. Xiao is there to listen from a rooftop. Suddenly Venti looks up at the exact spot and gives away a Venti signature chuckle. Xiao looks back startled filled with emotions and vanishes. Venti bows and the cut scene ends

Now you have the same type of story arc but with a character that people actually care about.

  7. Whenever I see videos like these, I immediately tick the "Don't Recommend Channel" option on Youtube as I'm fully aware these people are just trying to farm Genshin Hate into easy views.

I decided to give this video a chance against my better judgment – it was a mistake.

It's just what was expected – pointless braindead hating without any slight hint of substance behind it just for the sake of trying to get views, either by the Genshin hate-watchers or the Genshin community itself.

First and foremost, this is also the only thing I'll be saying about the Genshin 4.4 rewards "DRAMA", with big emphasis on the quotation marks – they are the exact same rewards they were in all previous Lantern Rites – in fact, last year they used the EXACT SAME wording for the rewards – which you can easily find at Genshin's 3.4 version program live stream at exactly 27:27. Where did all this drama go last year? Well, it didn't happen. Makes you wonder why, hmm?

    1. The writing is fine. Genshin's story isn't stellar already and it's far more kids-oriented than anything else; that said, what YOU consider good/bad writing isn't really indicative of anything because writing, just like most forms of art, tends to be very "in the eye of the beholder". I've seen youtubers crying at this quest because it hit close to home or because they just really liked it – what you like/dislike doesn't matter to how it was received, and I'd wager the large majority of the playerbase (me included, obviously) loved this Lantern Rite from what I've seen in social media. Although I guess this is your video so you're entitled to your opinion – an opinion that's more objectively wrong over anything else given the general reception of the event and Genshin's profit margins, but an opinion nonetheless.

    2. Forced characters directly correlates to the point above, but this had no really big forced characters whatsoever – not only that, it was great having so many characters all in this event, especially as someone who's experiencing their first Lantern Rite (yours truly). There was no single character that felt too "forced" – although, I'll say that having that many Fontaine characters travel to the exact same village at the same time? Yeah, you could say that didn't feel entirely natural and if that was your complain, to a certain degree I'd agree – however, and I can't stress this enough, MORE characters is better than LESS characters; so I'll take it. But to say that Zhongli and Xiao (who basically lives near Whangshu Inn, where this story takes place) were forced is an… interesting take.

The large majority of the community enjoyed this event, the story was pretty good and the rewards were fine – much like the other 10+ channels I've come across with a dumb "GENSHIN DYING" thumbnail whose entire point is "GENSHIN BAD BECUZ I DON LIKE IT WAAH", I'll be flagging Youtube to not show me your videos again – since I am aware that the fact I'm even giving you a view is great for you.

I'll go back to immediately removing any such videos from my timeline because brainless Genshin hate always follows the exact same route, without a single original thought behind it. I only hope you can find a game you actually genuinely enjoy playing instead of spending so much time playing a game you clearly get no joy out of playing.

    Good luck.

  9. Honestly I haven't seen anyone comment this at all but the main issue I had with the story wasn't the story itself but the way everyone was tryna force Gaming to reconcile with his dad. I get that it was Lantern Rite and the theme was reconciliation but to try and get involved in someone you just met's family business like that especially someone who felt so unhappy he had to run away from home feels really wrong. It feels like a violation of trust especially since the Traveler let literally everyone know about it. Situations like that tend to be more than what meets the eye for it to be so upsetting that it drove him away from home and made him that uncomfortable to talk about makes it feel like there was more to the story than just "My dad doesn't approve of my passion so I ran away". We don't know anything about what it was like growing up in a household like that and the effect that ahd on Gaming, for everyone to try and just butt in and fix it for him feels so wrong. Therefore I don't think that it was handled properly. I mean if you saw someone irl and they trusted you enough to tell you about the same problem would you just go and make an elaborate scheme to make them go back to that situation? That would be insane. I know it's Genshin but idk if that's a good message to put out there. Gaming needn't be the one being corrected, it should have been his father that needed to be educated and proposed to appologise to Gaming if anything, not Gaming himself. Poor Gaming once again having to shoulder his dad's lack of understanding.

  10. Bruh, what are you talking about? What do you mean "It doesn't feel like a Lantern Rite quest". What is a Lantern Rite quest? Because so far they were all mid. This was a great quest that had actual competent writing.

  11. My perspective is super biased since, despite playing for a bit over a year now, this was the first Lantern Rite I had the chance to play (no time last year), so take that as you may, plus I haven't gotten around to watching the stories for past ones.

That aside, I agree that this felt a lot like a Gaming hangout, but I don't think that's inherently wrong. It was still a touching story, and considering the culture in China (which, context is important), one with words I'm sure many needed/wanted to hear. Plus the other Liyue characters popping in and out was fine by me. Maybe, as you say, there should've been more glimpses of key characters, but trying to hold too much at once may end with it all falling apart. As new (or old, in Xianyun's case) characters get explored, it makes sense to get a new perspective from them- otherwise you may end up inadvertedly rehashing old story beats.

I would also argue you're focusing too much on Gaming, because this was as much a focus on him as it was on Xianyun, even if the latter was slightly less prominent.

I found Xianyun's involvement to be a very nice follow up to her quest, since it reinforced both her adeptus side and her nurturing side, and interweaving the last one with Gaming was a nice touch. her being the catalyst for random cameos was hilarious, but very on brand, and I found that part of the story very sweet (amidst the laughs). Her being grumpy about Fontainian technology creeping on but still reluctantly buying the devices because she's a true inventor at heart and won't let pettiness get in her way was great, plus giving the kites a second push when the wind died down. The bit that I wished got more exploration was her relationship with Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver, but alas, hopefully later (when hopefully they get a non NPC design…). Though they were AMAZING comedy relief, that I can't deny. I was cackling when they ran away and left a tail of dust behind.

Ultimately it was a very enjoyable story, with a very satisfactory conclusion for the main characters involved. Even if this plot most reminds me of Moonchase festival, I don't think it wasn't fitting for Lantern Rite. After all, even if he didn't explicitly send off a lantern, Gaming's wish was heard loud and clear.

  12. You remind me of my grandpa, if you don't like the game anymore, please help yourself and just quit the game, this is not an insult, Genshin is a game, if you don't find it enjoyable anymore, just quit.
Do something positive with your life instead of yapping about the game that you don't like, maybe play something that you like instead?

  13. Story was fine. Ive seen worse from this game (Kokomi Story quest, Inazuma Archon Quests).
It's just so empty after you do all the events and quests. Like, this is Lantern Rite, a super important event but there's nothing… NOTHING… to do once everything in the main dish is gone. No side dishes or desserts

  14. I always laugh when people complain about rewards. Like wtf do you guys want? God tier "meta" crap? Every year people whine over rewards. I'm not gonna pull the "be grateful that you're getting anything" line, but at the same time players always expect the best of the best out of these rewards and THAT'S what's the most annoying. You know, the exact same rewards they always hand out for literally every event?

    Talent books
    Level books
    Weapon materials
    Primogems
    Crystals
Usually a special event trinket, companion or teapot add ons
A free 4-star Weapon or character
    Etc…

It's not new and nothing will change from this. Anyway I didn't mind the story events for the Lantern Right festival (to an extent) and the minigames. Rewards are rewards and I got them all.
