Try to keep the comments civil, I know meta is a sensitive topic but just because we disagree doesn't mean we get to kill one another

Tbh the logic that all characters are viable and great if you invest in them is a very flawed one. Like yeah if your amber has 200 crit dmg and a 5 star weapon she will definitely be viable and good. But why would I put that much investment into her when I know that there is a character who can possibly do atleast triple the damage and provide more utility. This is why meta exists. All characters are "viable" but not all characters are actually good with average f2p investment.
Also imo the average genshin player decides to pulls on a character based on design and personality. It's when the character is below average like kokomi when people dont pull for her. If a character is doing even average damage then people do pull for them.
I think I am in the middle of this entire discussion. I do like high damage and getting great value in characters kit. Having said that, I don’t care so much about meta to the point where I only pull for the meta. I have been playing Geo Traveler for over 5 months minimum, and I still enjoy it. Is Geo Traveler meta? Absolutely not, is actually quite a hated character in the meta perspective, but I love him to the point where I got him 3 crowned with 81CR/191CD. I recently got Itto C2 with R1 Weapon, and I pulled him because I enjoy the Geo element, I like his design and also because he can be a great DPS contribution. And even tho I now have Itto, I will still use Traveler, because is what I enjoy. Ill still max my Itto as much as possible, but Ill do it primarily because I enjoy and like the character, and thats how I show my love to the units I like. I do enjoy maxing my favorite units and making them as strong as possible based on meta standards, but I don’t stress about maxing the Spiral Abyss. I max my characters out because I like them, not to prove a point to nobody. Meta has a place in the game, and it should have it as long as it doesn’t sour your game enjoyment or makes you put yourself in financial peril. In other words, all in good measure.
So, I agree with Soul, meta has a place in Genshin, if not, none of us would be play the game efficiently. Great video as always Soul! (ps: sorry for the long post)
I agree, as someone who's probably on the middle term of meta and just using units that I like… thanks to meta it's considerably easier to know how to extract the most out of the characters I use. Also it's important to be aware that stuff that's decided early on the game is likely just bullshit because in the beggining nobody knows much about the game, same goes for early thoughts in anything else.
I did my take on his video, and Ill say it again, having meta is very important for f2p cause it helps guide people to make sure they get their worths back for the hard earned primos. It took me till the Raiden banner to actually realise how busted Xiangling was (granted she was only C1 prior to that banner) but now I know better and with National and Morgana Im able to easely destroy Abyss. Obviously its not everything and I do think you shouldnt play just meta, however it is an important aspect of the game.
I'm okay with not wishing for a current best main dps if I don't like their design or playstyle because the next day a new main dps will come out and will do the same damage as the previous one if not more. Support charatcers on the other hand are my weakness. They provide something special, you can use them everywhere and their abilities will most likely stay unique for a longer period of time
People will care about meta more when spiral abyss keeps ramping up in difficulty for those 600 primos. My thing is if a unit is good, fun, and I love the character they are worth whaling on to make my main.
Meta is important but has about the same importance as everything else, shenhe could be the golden egg of personality and design but I’m still not pulling because she doesn’t meet my standards as a playable character in strength
Well I wanted to ask you how do you feel about Xiao in terms of meta currently? I’m planning on getting him and he’s your favorite character so I’m curious. I honestly could care less about meta but I don’t want him to lose his shine yk?
I definitely agree that meta has some sort of place in the game. But when most people look at meta they look at it to find ways to make their favorite character stronger through teamcomps/weapon/ect. and not what is the most optimal. Most theorycrafters or meta players completely gloss over the first part and only focus on the second part. You can watch any tenten video and he'll shit on characters just because they are not the most optimal choice even if they are completely viable in the right teams. And abyss really isnt hard enough to warrant this level of meta discussion.
keep in mind that people are very limited with their resources. they can't resin refresh for example. that's why you need to stop and ask yourself which characters you'll grind for, especially if everyone you own is c0. there are many other reasons why meta matters.
If you're even 33staring abyss and all it literally doesn't matter you don't even get 1 wish in a month between 33 to 36 star, it's better to have fun and you'll gradually grow stronger anyway, Most of my f2p friends are 36 staring abyss for a long time and just like me they atleast most only pull for characters they like and use them and the game isn't as hard after a point I've been 36 staring abyss with xiao on a f2p account easily since idr how many patches, tho your points are pretty much valid too.
I've personally never felt that much attachment to meta-whoring. It's because as you said, you can clear content with anything. But there is not just extremes i.e. either you're using Ganyu,Hu Tao or straight up Kaeya,Amber. The game has decently designed units who are strong. Both meta and character attributes like personality, design etc often overlap with people's expectations . Like most people unquestionably wanted Ayaka for a whole year solely because of some CBT footage. Because of the design. The fact that she was strong in numbers was just a bonus. Most people imo DO pull based on non meta factors. Even if they ignore that, there's a decent chance their character will be good/serviceable anyway. I pulled for Kazuha when he was being dogpiled on for being a worse 5* Sucrose. I didn't care because I spammed his trial a million times and he was fun. I never gave a shit about Hu tao, Ganyu, Eula etc. I'd never think of pulling for them just because they go big pp damage, it just doesn't cross my mind. My Xiao struggles in Floor 12. But I've never really cared because of a loss of 200 primos a month. It's whatever. My main reason for pulling was because he looked cool. And he sweeps 95% of content anyway. So me caring about meta for 100 primos is pointless. If the game gave you a harder reason to care about Abyss, maybe I'd find meta relevant.
I don't think Mihoyo has fucked up on a lot of character kits. And for some people, even those flaws are the whole appeal of the unit. Like Noelle or starter character mains. In fact these players are usually more sweaty than just pure meta/number whores because they see a bigger challenge in this. There is no challenge to be had in running best Ganyu, Hu Tao comps. Okay, big numbers and…..? The game is piss easy. The accomplishment is less impressive imo compared to other things you can do in the game which makes genshin more interesting imo.
TLDR*: Most people do pull units for their personality, VA, design etc over purely meta but the game makes 90% of the 5 units pretty decent so they just end up fulfilling both expectations of players anyway. You don't just have to stick to the top 2-3 DPS to care about meta. There is no challenge to be had in it to find it impressive enough to care about meta.
Haha I just was like: hey didn't I see a similar video but with a different opinion some days ago? And haha it was valk. Funny that you also know him (but then again we are all xiao mains xD)

I really love my man Kaeya. I double crowned him, c2 and has great artifacts, but there is no way in hell I could bring him for floor 12 </3

Lol genshin impact meta
Just pull for ganyu and zhongli and you won the game 💀💀
imma be real with ya chief im not sure what meta is and at this point im to far down the unga bunga rabbit hole to ask
Sorry, you're just wrong. Amber is rank 1 even though there is no meta.🙄

3:40 wow man how did you do that?

Trueee
I agree with most of what you said, but playstyle is also important
I agree with you.
I think genshin should give us ar 50+ players some hard permanent endgame content. Abyss is hard for new players but for old players it's kinda easy
Well I wanted to ask you how do you feel about Xiao in terms of meta currently? I’m planning on getting him and he’s your favorite character so I’m curious. I honestly could care less about meta but I don’t want him to lose his shine yk?

My goal is to build two teams to beat abyss 36*…….once thats done im gonna pull characters only based on fun to play and not based on scalings🥲
i agree 100%
