Enviosity recently 36 starred the Abyss with the 8 starter characters. One of the last two Abyss rotations.
I have lost the 50/50 to kazuha twice. Which is considered a must have. I have not had problems clearing the abyss thus far. Give yourself the time to collect 5 or 6 key characters and then you are good to go if you are a relatively new player. Prefer 5star supports and avoid very niche or hyppercarry characters except for maybe one or two. The game can be beaten without Raiden, zhongli, ayaka, ganyu, kazuha
I started a new f2p account recently and It was much easier than my first time round because you truly can play the game with whatever units IF you know what you are doing. The account is AR35, haven't farmed a single artifact yet, lucked out and got an early Wanderer and Yanfei on my account with the free 10 pull and 15 pulls you earn working through Monstat and liyue. Managed to get Fischl and Diona from the beginner banner and I've been managing to work my way through the Abyss fairly easily with what the game gave me. You really can play the game with whomever you want. And if you can't save 180 wishes to guarantee that unit you really want? You can always skip and wait for the next re run, you'll just have to be willing to wait. You play long enough and you'll eventually have too many characters to build and will get kinda burnt out on acquiring new units.
While you may not be able to ruin your account (well, you can should you trash all your equipment, etc) you can absolutely make mistakes that set you back months with poor resource management. If you want to help people, teach them better resource management. Not getting your character isn’t the real problem.
I got a donut when wishing for Raidens weapon banner last time. It was a bummer then, but Barbara is having a blast with it now 😉

I use to be like that. Ever since i skipped Cyno and wanderer. I feel less stress and more liberating. I'm not in a constant state of stress anymore. But i'm still gonna go hard on Yaoyao, Baizhu, Alice and Cloud Retainer though. The rest of the other nation of teyvat i stop caring for those characters like Folcalor, Lynney&Lynette.
Even if i fail to get them i just accept it and move on.
