  1. I think it's marketing strategy. To keep people invested in every part of the game, Mihoyo staggers elemental factors. They held out on releasing Dendro until halfway through the game- that way, players who might have started getting bored with the mechanics had their interest in the game reinvigorated by the massive change of reaction availability. Anemo, however, is on the opposite end of the spectrum. As the first element introduced in the game, players generally come to understand it first, which leads to their anticipation for gaining anemo units to wane. In order to ensure continued investment in the units, weapons, and artifacts related to this element, they make up for lack of suspense by keeping the element itself at top tier functionality.

    A lot of people compare units such as Venti, Xiao, and Kazuha trying to determine which niche each fits into and which is a 'better' character. The truth of the matter, however, is that the main purpose they serve is to keep the anemo element relevant throughout the game;

In Mondstadt, there are almost no heavy (non-boss) enemies, and wind currents are the mode of travel most commonly utilized from point A to point B. Mobs are also very common in the wilds of the nation of freedom, often sticking together in groups. Venti fits those niches and provides players with a solid reason to invest in and use an anemo unit while in Mondstadt.

In Liyue, there are many enemies who have shields or defenses of some sort, and the terrain is too far varied in elevation to dependably travel by wind currents. This is where Xiao comes in- the anemo character tailored to Liyue. Xiao relies less on reactions and more on high damage numbers: effectively breaking shields while still being effective against mobs. Xiao's elemental skill also is suited to travel in Liyue, where gliding from one high-up place to another is often the most convenient mode of travel. With his skill he moves forward quickly through the air, regaining stamina while not losing altitude. This makes foot-travel through places like Jueyan Karst quicker and more efficient. The fulfillment of these niches gives players a reason to continue using an anemo unit while in Liyue.

Inazuma is where the anemo element first encountered major difficulty. With most of the enemies being either heavy (like samurai) or floating (like specters), the common gather and stagger technique that had long-since been assumed anemo's purpose was effectively countered. This is why Mihoyo had to release an Inazuman-tailored anemo unit: Kazuha. Kazuha's burst focuses less on gathering and staggering, and more on wide-range aoe swirl damage. Because of this, he is able to effectively counter the counter placed on his element, giving players a reason to keep using an anemo unit while in Inazuma.

If you read this all the way through, bless your heart. Have a good day, God bless!

  2. Hydro is side by side with anemo as the best element and Xingqiu is the best character since 1.0, from Jinjinx early assessments to present day. Hell, Jinjinx early tc even put Venti SSS tier. Pyro Impact has always been hydro impact. From Diluc to Hu Tao, they were reliant on XQ.

  3. mechanically i think anemo is the best in the game. ppl can argue hydro is and i can see it since it too facilitates most of the good reaction, but anemo increases reaction potential all in all as appose to geo that decreases the teams potential by snagging what coulda been reactions into zero calorie candies that taste like sand, i hate sand…

  4. First of all
    – anemo charachters have magnificient cc abilities
    – some of them provides buff that makes your active dps cracked -viridiscent venerer shreds elemental res
-some anemo charachters are excellent at exploring

  5. Nothing does… Because Hydro is. Anemo depends on the enemies being multiple and able to be pulled to be used to its full extent, whereas you can do anything but Freezing Bosses when it comes to Hydro (and no, you can't pull bosses either).

Provided Anemo has access to Viridescent Venerer, it may be a pain to use it in some characters, specially when you want to keep enemies debuffed for multiple Elements. Also, it doesn't work with Dendro (or Geo, but that's a Geo thing more than anything else).

Meanwhile, Hydro is essential to teams that involve Vaping, Freezing (allowing the ultra-aggressive Blizzard Strayer set to do its thing), Bloom, Hyberbloom and Burgeon… Which are some of the hardest hitters around.

Edit: I'll give that Venti, Kazuha, Jean, Wanderer and Sucrose do some pretty awesome stuff, though. Still, with Xiao, Sayu and Heizou around, you cannot say that Anemo itself is as important as the characters bearing the Element are (plus Wanderer does not use 4PC Viridescent Venerer for his best damage output).

Note that I didn't even think that talking about:

*Xingqiu's broken DMG (for a 4 star character), damage mitigation and interruption reduction.
*Yelan's ridiculous numbers and moderate DMG buff.
*Mona's fat ass buff and Elemental Burst DMG.
*Tartaglia's insane AoE Hydro application and Elemental Burst DMG.
*Kokomi's excelent off-field AND AoE Hydro application combined with healing.

…was a good idea as far as comparisons are concerned (as Hydro holds itself pretty well without looking at specific character abilities). But anyways, if anyone needed a list, here it is.

  6. Also, Kazuha did not gain that much from EM and Transformative Reactions Buffs.

People realizing his potential was initially all thanks to Ayaka, Raiden Shogun and Yae, as well as Ganyu (rather ironically, including Melt, specially for people who pulled all the way to his C2); Oh, and Childe International. There's that too…

  7. as an anemo and dendro lover, i will respectfully say that hydro is the most powerful element. why? because anemo was only buff because of the swirl update in 1.6 and the ever op vv set plus crowd control (that they really should try to give to other elements.. come on, hoyo, be creative), while dendro is limited to a select few elemental reactions (and burning is a niche), but both are very powerful with little to no investment (er and em all the way~). hydro can set up every element to do heck anything and with low investments (can react to all elements, low investments and just downright versatile characters) the only downside is that some characters apply wet to themselves and sometimes that's not a fun time. so yes, save up for hydro archon guys. also, i am still waiting for a vortex hydro character that'll give crowd control to hydro.
other crowd control ideas for elements:
dendro pulling roots like dendro cube
pyro rolling lava towards an area
electro static blast that will freeze everything for a few seconds (kinda like freeze but the electro effect won't disappear with shatter)
freeze is already crowd control-ish and we kinda already have geo with zhongli petrify and traveler geo ult… but quicksand would be cool.

  8. Mistakes I could spot:

*Implying that Xingqiu's Elemental Burst Rain Swords do any kind of AoE DMG (and thus can hit multiple enemies grouped by an Anemo unit). They don't; He does apply Hydro at regular intervals with the Raincutter Swords (the ones orbiting around him), but these deal no damage at all.

*Saying that Viridescent Venerer buffs do not belong to the Anemo Element. Why would this be the case? Anemo and Geo cannot be applied as auras, as they dissipate immediately after causing a reaction with whatever element was already present as the current aura (or don't do anything in case the aura wasn't present).

Only specific enemies have Anemo (or Geo) auras for themselves. In the case of Anemo, I think only the Hypostasis has.

So yeah, no 4PC VV Benny Boi for you…

*Implying that Viridescent Venerer stacks multiplicatively with the EM Bonus. It doesn't; Both are added together for a single global Reaction multiplier.

*Saying that Viridescent Venerer Increases the damage of Pyro, Hydro, CRYO, and Electro more than (impliedly) any set you may use on the damage dealers themselves. This would be true were not for 4PC Blizzard Strayer giving 40% crit rate and 15% Cryo DMG Bonus. The math for the Critical Rate of this set is complicated, but it's safe to assume up to 35% total increase in damage even with a team already buffed with Kazuha and the like.

Not that you are not supposed to use 4PC VV on Freeze teams as well, as Freezing depends on all buffs to maximize DMG, since it deals no extra Reaction DMG of any sort.

  9. Anemo isn't that busted, because there's only a very select few of the units that actually do the "broken mechanics"; As you say, it's only really Sucrose, Venti and Kazuha. Jean can "succ" but only while holding her E and it's not a massive AoE, Xiao doesn't really swirl or succ, Heizou kinda can swirl and succ, but nowhere near the levels of the "top 3" and is far better off as a typical DPS, Sayu can swirl, but she's far better at exploration than combat and then Wanderer can kinda do both, but like Heizou he's far better off as a DPS and then Faruzan just kinda exists to buff Wanderer or other Anemo DPS.
